Although I have only recently begun playing WHFB i have been watching and reading the fluff and armies for it since i started playing 40k, which was 3rd ed not sure what ed. of WHFB that was, the very first army I liked was dwarves but then i came across my mates ravening hordes book and found the race i love.. Chaos Dwarfs.

Yes thats right chaos dwarfs those guys that created the black orcs and more recently the hellcannons.
What wasnt to like about them? they didnt get the magic resistance of dwarves but instead used magic and had
crazy machines ie rockets and the earthshaker cannon (GW got a bit lasy with the name i think)
and they actually had mounts.

Im sure there are lots of people that didnt like them but i was just curious to see how many other people like myself
actually thought the chaos dwarfs where cool. Would love for GW to bring them back and not leave them in the backgrounds
of the chaos fluff.

I would rather they made normal dwarfs not suck first. Then bring in the Chaos Dwarfs.

Actually, I would like to see normal dwarfs get more mechanical, and the Chaos Dwarfs more 'daemonic-engine"-y. They would be reflections of each other.

They were cool when released, rocket launchers and massive cannons.

But they wen't selling so they can't keep producing them, i'm sure if games workshop did a quick army release for a short time only they would fly of the shelves though.

On a side note i was rather hoping the next Gotrek and Felix book would have had them going into the Chaos Dwarf land's sadly were going to be stuck with this "Shaman Slayer" book coming out soon.

I dunno...

YES YES! DO IT NOW GW!!! Chaos Dwarfs are great, IMO. Many people still play using the old rules downloadable from http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page or use the dwarf armybook and the counts-as rule (what I do)

CDs were rather silly caricatures, did not sell well, and do not fit in with 7th's "grittier" imagery (though junk like fanatics and falling giants somehow does....).

The older models are pretty unspectacular and the new CDs, while definitely cooler, only offer 3 poses. Some diehards have sculpted up conversions to good effect. No reason they really need rules, though, as counts as dwarves or Chaos works just fine. (Indeed, I would prefer to see a more interesting dwarf list or Chaos rewrite allowing daemons before CDs.)

Kind of like how we don't really need a fishmen army book, either, but nothing stops you from building your fishmen Wood Elves or whatever.

Sadly I think we'll never see a Chaos Dwarf army book. There has never been a CD champion in the dev studio, the one book they got was "White Dwarf Presents: Chaos Dwarfs" instead of "Warhammer Armies:...".

GW's official statement on this is "we'll do chaos Dwarves when we have time." which is to say never or maybe once theyve updated dark eldar, imp guard, the inquisitorial forces, cron, skaven, beastmen, bretonians, tomb kings, ( and by that time they'll start the cycle all over again, but maybe just before they restart that cycle but i doubt it.

My Armies: 2000 pts Vior La Tau
5500 pts Armagedon Deathskull Orks
3000pts Raven Guard with Grey Knight contingent
1000 pts Tyranids (Kraken or Swamp Paint Scheme, don't know yet).
4000pts Word Bearers, Company of Shadow, and Libation Bearers.
2000pts Chaos Daemons.

I think that they will 'eventually' re-do the Chaos Dwarves.

But 'eventually' might be quite a few years away...

Anyway, I'm hoping for it too, as they are pretty much the only 'new' army I'd buy for WFB.

Urgh....

At first, I'd flail my arms wildly, saying things like "blarga blargabringCD'Sbackarughl" when I realized that one thing had to happen first. GW needed to make the army more true to the fluff (i.e. more than two warmachines please. Our western kin get like, five, six if you count the Gyrocopter...)

namegoeshere, hats are what make Chaos Dwarfs, well, Chaos Dwarfs!

of course, I'm not too fond of hats, but I like the way they look (sillyness compared to the not so sillyness of other armies.)

He's just saying that hats haven't always been a defining characteristic of the Chaos Dwarfs. It's kind of funny- what other race has its adherents embroiled in such core arguments as "Big hats or not?"

I do like that their fluff is seeded around in different army books. They definitely have a presence. The question is whether they will have a presence in the wider Warhammer world. They are provincial- i.e. don't often leave their homelands, though that hasn't stopped GW from running with Tomb Kings, Wood Elves, and to a lesser extent, Lizardmen.

Anyhow, I would like to see them come on in, make a good splash. I think there's a lot of great imagery and models that could develop with the line. Get a real "Hell-forge" thing going.

I doubt that we will ever see these guys again... They are like the squats of fantasy, lost to the ravages of time (read: gw!)...

Well, for now they differ in one key respect- the squats were eaten out of existence. The Chaos Dwarfs show up in the Ogre, Dwarf, and WoC books right now. So they got that going for them. Plus an actual unit with the Hellcannon.

So, they have that leg up on the squats at least.

They were? Really? Now if they take this Demiurg thing and run with it some day- I might agree. *That* concept is cool. Short, bearded Imperial Guard? Not so much...

I'd love to see the Chaos Dwarfs make a come back, I'm a sucker for Assyrian imagery. And the concept of turning to stone when they became powerful sorcerers (similar to Eldar farseers with wraithbone) is ust cool.

My friend has 2 full units made up of those old models. I have a hard time admitting that I like them since I play normal dwarfs who look lame, but I do like the old chaos armor thing. I would like to see Chaos Dwarves return, heavy on the chaos. (And regular dwwarfs get more technological, a guy can dream!)

Games Workshop, if they were going to do a new army, aside from Chaos Dwarfs could do:
Cathay (just from a modeling standpoint it would offer something completely different)
Hobgoblin Hengemony (my personal favorite and their mercentile nature makes them a nice 'allies with damn near everyone' army so you can sell to non-exclusive players)
Ind or Rakasha (tigerpeople warriors and mages, some riding giant elephants, elephant-ogres, monkey-people, etc.)
Fishmen (complete with squid-headed mages, little fishmen with tridents, naga, etc.)
Araby
Nippon

Now as much respect and love as I have for the Chaos Dwarf players... do you really think looking at this list that evil stunties that already failed to capture players once is the best option for capturing the widest group of players and encouraging new players to join?

Granted, I don't particularly think that Ogre Kingdoms was a better choice than half those I've listed above either, so let's not pretend that GW would necessarily make the wisest choice, but that aside...
Regular Dwarfs don't even sell as well as they could, you know, Chaos Dwarfs have even a smaller audience.
But Chinese warriors, big mongol goblins, India-flavored Beastmen or sea monsters... well, I can certainly imagine a lot more people would want to buy those models just to buy those models, let alone play the army!

I honestly think that Chaos Dwarfs are great, and I am about to start writing up my own list for fun. Anyone want to help me? I personally think Chaos Dwarves are an awesome idea that shouldn't be neglected the way they are, so I'm gonna write my own list.
