In 5th edition it sure seems to be. This is going to be a bit dependent on the army you're putting it in though.

I know in the old days just having a Raider on the field gave you a psychological advantage.

I am out of touch with it, last time I played we had squats, trikes, ratlings and robots....
Dreadnoughts had twin bolters mounted on the back of there hands, Guardsmen carried Lascannons and Heavy Bolters on their shoulders and sentinels has Assault cannons...

Since you can't even glance to destroy one anymore, except an AP1 weapon. They are hard to killing meaning a eldar lance, melta weaps(with 2 6s unless at half range), and 9+ str. Also the machine spirit allows you to fire one weapon even when shaken/stunned.

Yeh land raiders are strong but its not very hard to kill if you have the stuff
I fought 3 at once one was imobilied with a chaos dreadnaught 1 was destroyed by my defilier and the 3rd lost both lascannons and was imobilized 1 inch from contesting the objective last turn by my plague marienes
its not hard if you have the stuff to kill them but you have to work on them saving other guys

If they're supported right they can make an army unstoppable, if they're just added to a list without thinking how they work with the rest of the army they're a complete waste of points. It's a right tool for the right job thing. The main benefit for the tropp capactity is the assult ramp rule. If it's not going to make use of that you might want to consider drop pods/deep strike alternative. Same goes for shooting - if you can't maximise the firepower take dreads instead. If I was using it as a fire point I'd rather have two shooty dreads myself. They're lower armour but they can move around, cover different parts of the battlefield and have to be destroyed twice as opposed to a LR being destroyed once and taking out all the guns. Depends how you use it.
I've used three at once before. It's great fun although limits your options during a battle.

Yes, but bring two or three. It's fair to say the LR was considerably strengthened with version 5 rules.
The new variants are also nasty.

If playing marines, drop podding a Sternguard squad with Combimeltas is a fun "up yours" way of dealing with a Land Raider

Make sure you've got plenty of Drop Pods then, cause a fun way of dealing with drop podding sternguard is simply stay in reserve and wait for them to come onto the board 1st turn...then come on and assault them out of the LR.
I unclog my nose at drop pods.

yes, but then you've gone and lost between 1 and 4 turns of your big expansive land raider doing anything. Just the result I was looking for! And I could always keep my Sternies in the second wave of Pods and have a "lets see who cocks up their reserve dice rolls first" war.

Just like the expensive Sternguard?
And I could always keep my Sternies in the second wave of Pods and have a "lets see who cocks up their reserve dice rolls first" war.
So basically, sternguard dont have an advantage over LR's...which can pop smoke. Suicide Sternguard make me chuckle.

No, but you DID imply that Sternguard (or drop pods in general) were an easy way to deal with LR's. I was simply saying that its not neccessarily a forgone conclusion when the LR user guards against it.

I hate to burst your bubble, but the most you could possibly take is 5.
1 - transport a single normal Terminator squad.
1 - transport a single Assault Terminator squad.
3 - Heavy Support choices.
The codex states that in each of the listings for the Terminator squads.
I mean its not a real big difference but I'd rather face 5 and not 6, that's for sure.

The answer to your single line was posted long ago, it being "Depends on what you do with it."

Use it to transport the Terminators perhaps?

All I know is that in 5th it's not necessarily about destroying vehicles, but keeping them from being useful. Playing bugs I don't have much of a chance of destroying anything but my venom cannons do a great job of keeping them from moving their valuable cargo, which is just as good as having the thing destroyed. Instead of taking antiarmour I've just been pumping more men into the ranks because, if we're honest, 5th is all about infantry.

Yup, its once of the reasons Extra Armour was repriced to 15 points, since while the transports are all cheaper now, if they cant move, they are just as useless (hence why rolling a 6 for a glancing hit on T1 is just so satisfying).
Nids did get a bit of a boost in 5th with stealers being able to always hit the (usualy) AV10 rear armour, but as always have problems with anything Av14 (and the poor Stealers cant ever scratch land Raiders now unless you buy toxin sacs, and even then you have to roll a lot of sixes :()
And its about infantry now, just wait till Guard comes out. I reckon we'll be seeing a Lot more Russes and Chimeras about.

We did get a boost in always hitting on rear armour, but since fearless means we'll lose twice as many men, it all works out... If it's true that guard will be cheaper, it'll ALL be about infantry!
Raiders are great, but only in certain situations... Transporting terminators is great but I find them easy to avoid.

Mechanized armies seem to be extremely powerful in 5th edition.
Land Raiders (AV14 in general) seem to also be very good.
Use it to transport your Terminators + Chapter Master if you want to take one.

I definitely agree with your assessment. Mech has gotten a huge boost, especially with the emphasis on scoring units (which obviously can basically all take transports).
