Just wondering if anyone here has any confirmed cases nearby?
I work in the med field as a Firefighter/Emt and I just got a informational page that 6 cases has been detected in a nearby Washington State including in a city less then 40 miles from where I live and work.
Im starting to get a bad feeling about it. Espically since the possibility of me being exposed over and over again transporting patients looks like it might be pretty high.
Looks like ill be breaking out the Pro Mask with the 40mm Hepa filters sooner then I thought.

The closest case to me is somewhere in central Missouri, but I live in Kansas City, which has a pretty dense Mexican immigrant population. Nothing against them, but that is where it seems to have come from. From what I've heard, the earliest that they've have any sort of vaccine ready is September, by which time this will have run its course or become to big to stop. I'm personally not gonna start panicking yet. I've never had a flu shot and have only ever had the flu once, in 1978.

Here in Australia we have 31 SUSPECTED cases, but nothing serious yet. They were all detected early and quarantined. In Tasmania (the state where I live) there are 3 suspects, who are quarantined.
Let's not panic; SARS turned out OK, and so did bird flu. I think that we can see this through. It's less lethal than bird flu as well, so we might even have a lower death count.

The vaccine for this flu will mutate and strength the virus strain, and bringing doom for humanity at 2012 !
*edit . on seriouse note
death count means nothing when it comes to judging how deadly the virus is. Why?
because this time we are better prepared and the containment is better.
While saars have spread everywhere by the time we noticed it.

Lower lethality means more difficult containment as victims will generally wait longer before reporting symptoms and seeking treatment.

Ok.
You will be one of the Billion to die.
Now what?
Anyway...
In case you all havent figured it out yet, containment at this point in time is nothing more then a Joke. Thank you world wide travel. I dont think its going to be near as big as the media hype, however I do feel that its going to kill a few more people before its all said and done.

Yeah, deaths in an outbreak of any disease are virtually unavoidable. I reckon that even Athlete's Foot would kill a fair few people if there was a pandemic.

Well tbh if your a firefighter or work in important industries that keep the country running like ambulance, transport, etc etc. you will be getting the vaccine first as you are seen to be vital to the process of containing the virus
so look at it this way, while us commoners rot and die you're hapily driving about in a shiny car
But more seriously, when the count reaches to about 1,000 near my region then ill start to worry because atm, there hasnt been many cases found outside of mexico, and barely any have been fatal at all so, just gotta sit back and wait. And hey, Que sera sera anybody ?

Have no fear, the World Health Organization is on the case! They've upgraded the pandemic threat level to Level 5. Which is about as meaningful as saying it is Orange. As Ron White would say, there should be two terrorist threat levels - 1) Get a helmet and 2) Put yer helmet on. I think for this the threat levels should be - 1) don't go to Mexico and 2) stay home.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/04/29/swine.flu/index.html
There's two cases in Central Ohio. One is an OSU hospital employee. OSU Hospital says the worker contracted it outside the hospital and they are notifying patients who might have been in contact with the employee.

This is what I heard on the radio this morning. This is from a supposed email from a Texas doctor that had attended a public health meeting with members of the CDC. I'll just go over the highlights.
1) They stated that the WHO has actually raised the pandemic threat level to level 6. The highest level obtainable, and also the only time we will have been in level 6 in anyone's life time.
2) Cases of Swine flu can not be reported to the CDC until 3 days after a report has been made, even if the report has been confirmed by a blood test. So it is possible that reports from the CDC are much less than actual estimates.
3) This strain of the flu is normally contagious from between 3-7 days after infection and can go up to 11 days at most.
4) Recommendations to prevent contracting the swine flu include staying away from very closely populated areas, especially enclosed areas. If you believe you do have the swine flu, try to stay away from emergency rooms (This stuff is just common sense stuff really).
5) Eating garlic and onions, along with other organic fruits and vegetables, can help boost your immune system against this flu.
This is just what I recall, still searching for an online source I may be able to link to confirm or deny this.

Im gonna die!!!!!!!!!!
Nope, no one around here in Georgia with swine flu, to my knowledge, that is.
However, you know the first kid to die in America was a Mexican? Who was recently in Mexico?
I agree with the earlier threads comment that Mexico has a bad health care system and that's why there's such a high death count there.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands
Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

Good Lord people, it's just the FLU. The influenza virus has always been mildly dangerous, especially to the young and old.
"Swine" flu isn't really any different, it can be treated and prevented the same way.

The initial concerns with Swine Flu are due to Mexico reporting a number of deaths of people in their 20's to 40's. Influenza deaths, at least in the US, are typically only seen in the young, the elderly, and those with a weakened immune system.

I think Cars are more dangerous so I will be worried about them more.
This is a friendly reminder to wash your hands frequently and often. In fact, not washing hands after bathroom use is one of the top reasons Hepatitis A is spread. Frequent hand washing is by far the most effective way of keeping unwanted illness out of home and office.
Here are some other tips, courtesy of the CDC:
* Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
* Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
* Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
* Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
* If you get sick with influenza, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

The whole thing is pretty much BS in my opinion. The WHO call anything new a potential pandemic. Heck regular flu kills more each year than flu has even infected.
Anyways, Im not worried even if it is a pandemic. I live in the country and have a selfsustainable cabin in the back of my woodlot with a river full of fish. If the gak hits the fan me and ma family simply retire there for a month or two. Oh yah, that and I already have Haz suits cause ma pa is an ex pig farmer.
