Like a lot of other people I've got a lot of Marines, I was kinda bored and wanted to do something unique so I decided to start a themed army about 2 weeks ago. I've known for a while that I wanted to do a star wars theme, there's a Trade Federation Droid army here Link I thought it was amazing but I didn't want to copy somebody elses work, and I'm bigger fan of the classic trilogy than the new films.

Then I saw a piece of art that solidifed the concept I was looking for:

(The art isn't mine, but I thought it was very inspiring, its posted on Deviant Art)

From there all sorts of madness and converting has consumed me over the last two weeks. I've been posting my WIP log on the B&C forum and thought I'd share some of what I've been working on. The idea is to run an army that's very heavily inspired by the star wars imperial army, it will play gamewise as a standard marine list with allied Inquistors.

These are still all in various stages of WIP. Yes I'm perfectly aware they have mold lines and need greenstuff in some places!

All my time has been taken up with building and I haven't gotten to that point yet. They will be cleaned up before I get around to the painting.

There's additional pics on B&C as well as all my various brainstorming & ramblings etc in my work log: LINK

Vader's sword will be painted red with little bits of white energy inside the blade, clear red plastic just didn't want to work so I have to make due with painting it like a force weapon aka light saber. More minis will be coming soon

Force Weapon!!! Ahahahahaha... *wipes away a tear*

Subb'd. I hope your Vader is a counts as Libby so he can actually have a force weapon and Psychic powers.

And that Bobba Fett is hands down the best model in the group.

I believe he's going to be using it as a GK or something since he said he was going to have Inquisitor allies...

The Stormtrooper heads look really goofy. Their chins are absolutely ridiculous.

Apart from that, it's pretty good modeling, but I don't recall Boba Fett ever using a sniper rifle.

I think he used one during the clone wars at the start with the lame assassin and the worms, pretty much shot the needle into the chick and she shriveled up like a pickle. i might be wrong my star wars knowledge isn't the best.

Thanks for the comment guys, Boba is definately my favorite out of the group and I took a lot of extra time to get him right. He's lacking the forearm armor pad and grappling hook, not sure if I'll add that later or not.

The goal is to have a heavily star wars inspired themed army but not a perfect copy of everything as models still need to fit into the 40k pattern for game play. (with apropriate weapons)

Boba Fett has a heavy sniper rifle as he'll be used as an imperial assassin, he never uses one in the movies but he's an opportunist fighter and very practical he'd adjust his armoury to match the target. He's supposed to be notorious for disintegrating people with thermal grenades but we never see him do that in the movie. (something Vader tells him specifically not to do against Luke & Han)

I'll be doing a squad of Mandalorians as either my assult squad or as stern guard, Jango technically doesn't fit the army as I want it composed of Imperial forces from the original trilogy, but he was too cool of a character to pass up and he could just be another random Mandalorian wearing blue armor that looks like Jango.

Vader can be played a couple ways, for most games I intend to field him as an Inqusitor that way he can have a retinue of various droids (the probe droid is for his retinue) and I can make use of assassins (boba fett & IG-88) I can also mix it up by running him as a grey knight hero as he'd still have the psychic holocaust power, or he can function as Libraian Tigurius for lots of psychic powers. He'd be a fairly flexible role depending on which list I want to run.

Im loving the Fetts. These are great so far and im looking forward to more.

My only suggestion is to size down the flat hand on vadar, it looks a touch too big [you know what they say about big hands......]

Still have about 5 armies to do before then though!

But I'm dead serious about the stormtrooper chins, they look really, really bad. Were they ripped straight from Star Wars minis?

I agree a bit about the chins on the stormies... they could probably stand to have more of the original helmey stripped off before attaching.

Still, this is a very cool project!

Personally, I would like to see it as Imperial guard with Inquisition allies though, or even straight Inq. Stormtroopers as, well, stormtroopers (Inq type) or carapace vets would fit nicely, and you could have Vader being either a GK Grandmaster (so hot) or an Inquisitor Lord.

Very sharp even as marines though

The heads are from star wars minis, specifically darktrooper heads. They are a bit oversized and have a differant chin structure but the standard head seems a bit on the small side, and with the number of models I'm putting together for the army there is no way I'm going to sculpt them by hand. The heads on Jango and Boba were in comparision fairly easy to cut out of beaky marine heads, but still took a lot of time.

Side by side shot of the various heads:

It's an army that people are either going to love or hate due to the look, personally I'm pretty happy with how things look, I listen to and appreciate feedback as it's helped me fine tune the models, but I also know that not everyone will like the build simply because of what it is or the crossing of genres.

Also since taking the pic of the black reach stormtrooper test model I've been working on using regular marines and toned down the bone color considerably, here's the updated paint scheme. Even though the STs wear pure white in the movies all pure white is out as an option becuase it looks way to flat on the table and gives no depth, it looks like a bunch of chalk pieces rather than marines. This cuts way back on the bone color but leaves enough that it has contrast to provide detail and depth.

An idea. You should check out the LEGO starwars sets. Expect to find at least something useful. At least cooler colors on your lightsabrers.

I'm glancing at my at-st model that is in the early stages of being converted into a warhoud titan. It feels as if you and I are going to collide in a while :-)

I think the stormtrooper head looks good. The whole armour is wider and sturdier, so should his helmet be.

Expect some instances where the graphical styles will mix and even conflict. One side is the wh40k world, the "heroic miniatures"with unproportionally large heads, arms and huuuuge weapons. On the other side, the pretty reasonable sizes and perspectives that come when you have living actors in a movie. I do believe you will be able to merge the styles to create something bigger and better than the obvious solutions.
