Definitely not gamers. I'd guess a bunch of suits that are majority stock owners who placed themselves in charge of the company.

What?
You mean you own shares in this company?
Why?
Was it a slow day on Wall st? Nothing better available?
Or was it part of a cunning plan. Acquire enough stock to get a seat on the board and eventually a veto vote and then controlling interest, to make them do what you want them to do? Kind of a 'keep the bar stewards honest until you can gut them from the inside' plan?
Board of Directors and CEO.
If it's listed, these should be available (CEO at least. As the 'face' of the board.)

I am just kind of curious how GW went to become a private to publicly traded company. Also GW stock is pretty cool gift for a Warhammer 40k player you can buy 50 bucks and theyll give you a stock certificate.

While it would probably be a bad thing if some gamers were in control of the company (no, let's make Space Marines all drop two points in all stats, because I don't like them!) it might be nice if gamers had a bit more imput with the company and it's creative direction. I.E they got some.

Sounds good to me. We, the gamers should beat GW at their own game(badum-tish), and take control of the company!
Y'know, if I ever have enough money to buy the necessary shares in GW to make them do as I want, I will take great delight in making fishmen, and slann in space real armies.

To answer the question (if I may be forgiven for not being funny ).
The CEO is called Tom Kirby. He is a gamer (at least insofar as he has his own Ultramarine army).
Oh, did I just say that GW's CEO has Ultrasmurfs?

Itrs funny because at my table we always make Ultramarines jokes about pretty much everything.
You failed a LD test? failed to many saves? Just CANT win period? Should of been an Ultramarine player. At the start of the game they roll a 1+ on a d6 and automatically win!
On a side note, Id love to have enough cashola to buy a majority stake in GW. My god that would be nice, just to say hey you guys need to play test this CRAP!

Based on the price increases, I think it's safe to say that the people in charge of the company are idiots. Raise prices in a down economy, that's a great way to jumpstart sales. PP must be loving this.

I find it fascinating that people seem to forget that GW is PLC and therefore has to make money. For all their percieved faults they are still a going concern and making money. Yes it's easy for us to look at the raw materials and the staff discount from the good old days then bemoan the prices they charge us. However we forgot that in the real world, that the price of each item is made up of the cost of the materials, the labour, the packaging, stores, staff, energy, business costs and profit. None of know what the true cost is to produce the stuff, so are we really in a position to say that they are ripping us off?
Before I get called a fanboy, take a look at previous posts of mine. I've not played anything GW for over 2 years now. My only connection to GW models nowadays is to buy the odd model to paint and sell on Ebay.

If you really wanted to control GW, it's very simple:
There are 31.1 Million shares outstanding.
To gain control, you need at least 50% of the shares.
So, you would need to control 15.6 Million shares.
The current stock price is conveniently around 200p / share, or about 2 GBP per share.
So you would only need to spend 31.1 Million GBP to take control of the company.
Anybody got a spare $50M USD in their pocket?

Wolfstan wrote:I find it fascinating that people seem to forget that GW is PLC and therefore has to make money. For all their percieved faults they are still a going concern and making money.
I don't begrudge them making a profit. I want to see GW making a profit, because otherwise, they'll go out of business, and not support 40k in any fashion.
But, I have to question jacking up prices 16-18% (on some kits) in a down economy. If it was a 3-5% increase, I wouldn't have an issue with it. Not only is GW in competition with other gaming companies (and some, like PP, see themselves as gaming companies, not minature companies), but they're also in competition with other forms of entertainment.
I know this is a total knee-jerk reaction. I've been building up a stock of Ork models through some purchases and trades over the last two years. But, it's no where close to a full army (mostly just a lot of boyz and some of the elite units). I'm seriously thinking of the pile and wondering, "do I want to sink another $300 into this army to get battlewagons and trukks and kans, or do I just sell off all the boyz?" I'm sure that I'll hold onto everything and build up the rest of the army (since Orks have always been one of my favorites), but now it's no longer a question of "should I finish my tau or start buying some vehicles and work on that ork army?" The answer now is, "finish my tau."
