I know this has most likely been discussed before.
Yet after watching various youtube vids,I was just wondering:
a)How many of you either would or do larp?
b)What you think of larpers and larping?
c)If you would like to larp but don't what are the factors that stop you from doing so?

I have never larped primarily because the only LARP I ever encountered was vampire and the people that played were just sad sacks who gamed outside the main computer lab during class hours at my university and glared darkly at everyone who passed by, as if they could be intimidating. I tend to stand up for my fellow gamers but these kids had chips on their shoulders and it's obvious they never got over high school.
That being said, I find the concept of Darkon and other LARPS exciting but the closest I've ever got is fantasy capture the flag.
I was actually thinking of the logistics of a 40k LARP and wondering how all those mechanics would work.
Death to the false emperor and to light beer!
Adeo Mori Servus Imperator Fictus!
I have always somewhat liked the idea.
Find it rather strange how they can remain in character, even when they are fighting on the highschool football pitch.

When I was 21, so about 11 years ago, I went to The Gathering in Derby run by the Lorien Trust, there were thousands of people there and it was amazing, more a festival than a few folks running around a wood. It was my sole venture into LARP and I went to it with a group of friends, it was a great time.
If you're gonna do it, do it with a seasoned group and abide by the rules. Safety is a key factor.
I wish there were such things here.To tell you the truth, your most likely going to be shot while running around the park(we don't have that many woods here) with a foam sword. Also most people aren't really that into fantasy where I live.

Hmm. Spend a weekend or so in the woods, pissed out my skull, twatting people with swords and not getting arrested, and chatting up lovely ladies in skimpy outfits?
feth yeah I LARP!
Don't knock it till you tried it. The Nerd Hierarchy is a myth invented by those lacking the balls to embrace their true self!

I'd like to LARP someday, as long as it does not involve furries. My friends and I egged someone who came as a furry to a costume party. Hey, they were asking for it. Coming as a sexualised fox is sick and wrong.
People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.
Seriously, playing the game is bad enough in almost all social circles, why would you want to go that bit further and outwardly demonstrate to the outside world that you're a complete ludite?

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.
Put another down for the Lorien Trust, excellent set up, although sadly like Meangreenstompa I haven't been in a while.
My last attendance was in 1998 with my wife, when I was a ranked member of the Tarantulas.
Been to Three Moots and three Gatherings total, all with a fair number of folks participating, think the last Gathering I went to had 3K people there.
I also went to the Tower in Burnley twice before it was sadly closed. (Third or fourth floor of an old cotton mill, with a Labyrinth built inside to represent an underworld type location.)
Was a Viper for two years then switched to the Tarantulas after my second visit to Burnley and becoming friendly with the Tarantula leader.
Sadly various things have scuppered any attempts to go since, but if I had the chance I would do so again in a heartbeat.
Also been to a lesser system local to Exeter, but that wasn't as good, probably as it was a sunday afternoon type deal and all my LT events have been over a weekend or a couple of days at least.
Still have most of my old weapons, although would probably buy new ones if we go again.

I have always loved the idea of it.
Don't know what stops people here in SA accually.
I would love charging around the woods beating people with a sword(yes I know there are other aspects to it).
But we don't have much of a "community" round here that likes that sort of thing.

sA
Because it's a laugh? And you're not demonstrating it to the outside world, but instead to a camp site of like minded geeks intent on a weekend of violence, drinking and wenching?

For those considering it sad, consider this instead.
'I will try anything once, twice if I like it. Except Incest and Morris Dancing'
Just give it a go. Pretty much guarantee you'll enjoy it. Unless you don't like getting panelled in combat, in which case you will probably skrike like a bairn.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

This is why you should always take a real weapon to a LARP, just in case.

I bring them up to try and enlighten you. If you don't listen to me, you'll be sorry when they've got you cornered and are unzipping their flies.

I'm so glad my family moved here from the mainland. I haven't seen a single furry since I got here.
Which changes nothing.

nope, they're probably just stealthier, watching you as you post your hatred of them on 4chan or somesuch, waiting for you to sleep
so i met some guys who larped in actual armor once.
if it wasn't for them all being crusty old marines with eyes of fire and souls of hate, i might have checked out the setup more.
well, and their "foam" weapons could be used to drive nails into concrete
I have my home secured. There are shotgun traps pointed at every door and the windows are boarded up with a pike beside each one to ward off any furries who come near the place.
