In the german gw-fanworld are rumours about a new codex chaos:

which can customized from the player (weapons, capacity for transport (5-16), marks (1of5) etc.) to
show that the developement of Chaos Space Marine legions not stoped.
Second idea is a complete new vehicle (scouting storm tank!)

8. Dread Claws will be available

9. the rules for Dreadnoughts will change completely

10. units of lost and the damned should be available in elite-, standard- and support-choices

If even partially true I'm dancing. Although the salt required for that one just created a three mile Slug dead zone.

If it's true, then I vow on my soul, my life, and all I hold dear that I will eat my hat. And it's a very nice and expensive hat too, so this had better be wrong.

After the Valk/Vend and Drop pods I could see a Dread Claw being used. I don't see Kharn as a Daemon Prince, but whatever it's just rumors for now. I don't see the Army wide FNP option, but an evolving LR would be interesting. Allies are old and busted, but you need daemons in a Chaos army so who knows.

If they go for a Chaos God Mark/Chapter Trait thing from Codex: SM then I will probably consider starting a Chaos army. I think that the use of Special Characters just works better with Chaos, but then again that's IMHO.

If this comes out before Crons, DE, or Tau....

Well, these rumors sound a little too much like a wishlist of what every chaos player wants, or at least SHOULD want.

I doubt these rumors are true because they are too complete for a codex that probably won't be out for a year and a half if at all.

Although these rumors do fit in with the current form of the newer codices. It sounds like a chaos version of the space marine codex.

I will just keep my fingers crossed for the next 18 months, sound good guys?

I got these rumours off a french site:

Thousand Sons are going to go down in points, have two wounds,
a 4++, both new and old inferno bolts, autocast, and eternal warrior.

Berzerkers will be WS6, fleet, FNP, have a 2+ save for psychic powers
and Kharn will give the army a 2d6 fleet roll.

Plaguemarines will be Relentless, have Nurgle's Rot, T5 not T4(5),
a new FNP rule that can't be nullified by AP1/2 or power weapons.
Also they can take 3 Special weapons per squad now.

Noise Marines will come with sonic blasters and the profile has been
changed to S4 Assault 4/ S7 Rapid-fire. Also they have FNP.

Obliterators are going up in points, are T3(4), get FNP and have
to roll on a chart after deployment for what weapon they get.

Possessed can now roll on the chart before deployment, but are
going up in points to reflect the power increase. Also the chart
has been redone, 5 of the possible powers are FNP.

As an avid chaos player, I could see this being a veritable wishlist for what all the people whining about how bad the chaos 'dex is, despite the fact that I find myself agreeing less and less with them, but here's the thing:

GW isn't going to pull a 4th edition into 5th edition with something like a codex (I would hope). Lets be honest, if they were to pull something like that, the backlash from the community would be nothing shy of obscenely ugly, particularly from the hard-core players that started this game back in it's infancy. I know people have gotten loud in the past about this kind of stuff, but to be entirely honest, for all the whining that's come, most of their customer base will still buy it. Releasing a new Chaos SM codex would be suicide; they would lose a large base of their customers... either from annoyed chaos players, or from frustrated legacy army players... it really wouldn't matter if the new codex was made of gold and cost 3 cents.

Is there any precedent of GW making a significant change in a special character (Kharn to a Daemon prince)? I don't know of any time something like this has happened but some of the much, much older-timers may know of one. Based on that alone this is just BS, and it's got nothing to do with Ballistic Skill.

Seeing as I used to play chaos, and stopped playing them altogether after the current dex came out, I agree, those are just wishes. If the Chaos dex had all that jazz in it, I would of never left. The fact that it has no demons at all would of made me stay lol. I hate playing with demons, infact people that say you HAVE to have demons to play Chaos, should get slapped

Since the Chaos codex came out not too long ago, I'd doubt these rumors have much veracity.

Quite true, I might have recommend one of the other shops one day, it looks like the cakes they nibbled from weren't quite up to snuff.

The current Chaos Codex isn't even 2 years old, but I can believe this only because it pushes DE even farther back in the pipeline.

As rumors state, GW have supposedly have been working on new DE rules (Phil) and models (Jes) for the past couple years, more than a year before the supposed CSM start. And then, supposedly, they were ready for release, but got shelved.

So that means that GW, at a whim, can simply leapfrog the strongest Codex over things which have rumored been in the works for years.

I guess, from a DE perspective, this isn't anything new. It's not like it hasn't happened before...

NO! This is not happening... If anything, they are going to release chaos legion codecies, not a whole new CSM codex... although they did it in 3rd edition...

As an Avid player of Word Bearers, my army says it's a must, though if I EVER see a daemon in an Alpha Legion army I'd probably slap the owner.

Here's a key of the falsity:

So your standard trooper with have Str 7 rapidfire autocannon. What are these, movie marines?

Hah! Just kidding. They're never going to fix the mess that is chaos. Even putting out apocalypse datasheets of the lost and the damned and plague zombies is pointless, because nobody plays apocalypse.

Attention, remember that while the CSM codex is still young GW has been mentioning a Legion Codex, this could be the wishlist for such a thing.

I don't believe a single word of any of these rumors.

If Chaos do get a new codex, then it should be a "second edition" style printing a la Dark Eldar with no new models to go with it, with the only real change being that the Lash of Submission is gone.

They don't need an update, not even a Legions codex. Not before everyone else gets theirs, I'd like my army to be competitive again before the world ends in 2012.

I don't believe it, not yet. But the tempting whispers of the Chaos Gods are oh so convincing on the matter. I truly want this to be true.

However, this sucks for people who have been waiting for a codex far longer.
