How did it happen? Sucks to rear end someone I am sure, at least most of the damage is to your car, and you can take avoid the brunt of the other guys insurance company.
It looks like your license plate flew clean off .

Insurance is a huge issue when you get a car Luna, and you should be looking into it quite readily in order to prepare for when you get yours, and if you get yours.
It becomes even more of an issue when you are a young driver, and even more-so when driving someone else's car. Law's vary greatly so I cannot really give to much advice on this.

There's basically two types of auto insurance. There;s Full Coverage and Liability.
Full coverage means exactly that; everything is covered. Anything from a dog jumping up on your car and scratching the paint, to weather issues like hail storms, to collisions. Your insurance (assuming you were at fault) will cover your car, their car and, god forbid, any injuries.
Liability coverage means that the insurance company will only cover damages from accidents where YOU were at fault ie, you were liable.
The big difference is in monthly costs. For me, full coverage costs more than TWICE as much a month as liability does. I simply cannot afford, or even justify paying well more than twice as much a year for insurance. I am a good driver. I have never been in an accident. Ever.
Now that I have, I wish I had full coverage. Life is funny that way...

Cant you just say to them "HEY!! I CRASHED THE CAR!!"
I think it only applies to the repairs for the other guy's car. (?)
Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

This is correct. Liability only covers damages to other people's cars if you are deemed at fault.
Interesting caveat: Where the accident happen, the state has a "no fault collision" law. In vehicular collisions, nobody is "at fault" so I don't know how this is going to be handled.

Because the person you just crashed your car into lives in a certain place, and it's name is reality?
That sucks though Ghidorah. Do you have another set of wheels?

That's a real bugger, man. Still, it could have been a lot worse; you could have been smacked in the side or hit front-on by a bigger vehicle.

WTH is the cheap shot for? In an accident assuming there is no witness , isnt it possible to
make a situation up where it favors you?
No Luna, that's illegal.
Like recasting, for instance.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Ok smart guy , then explain this to me since i dont understand.
Why does liability insurance seem to work against the innocent ? ( im missing some info?)
he said insurance will pay IF the accident is his fault. Yet they wont pay if it isnt?
Or is the other guy's insurance paying for it thats why his wont pay?

Luna, if it's your fault, *you* should have to pay for it.

No, because you're legally supposed to involve both the police and swap insurance information in an collision(if there's no damage, this is obviously unnecessary, but it's how many insurance companies get their information). Failure for a single party involved to do so is illegal(most often classified under hit and runs). Insurance companies will also send out investigators(to find out what happened and asses whether the claim is fraud) and appraisers to asses the damage to a car to determine the amount to fix estimate and location on the vehicle of the damage. If they determine it's damage that could only reasonably happen where you are at fault(say, severe damage to the front end while you say someone hit you in a parking lot and took off[normally a No Fault]), they will deny your claim.

Full coverage - everything is covered, even your mistakes. You drive the car into a tree on your own, then it is taken care of.
Liabilty coverage - The damage done by you in your vehicle to other people's property is covered, but you have to cover the costs of the damage to your property. If you are on the receiving end of a break-in or something, the insurance company might cover that too. My liability insurance did.
Either way, I'm sure the OP is bummed out because the car is a mess, his insurance rates will go up and being in an accident, no matter the magnitude sucks.

Modquisition on. be nice people, I am in a banning mood.
All righty. As has been noted
*Full coverage. There are various shades here but in essence your insurance policy covers damge to your vehicle and other vehicle. Various flavors color the amount of coverage and deductible, as well as damage from non-accident related items like theft.
*Liability. Again some flavors but its the low rent policy. Its whats required in many states. Under this policy your insurance will cover damage caused to other vehicles. Like everything you get what you pay for. Go for the low rent stuff and get low rent coverage. Lots of people have this, especially teenagers with crappy cars that aren't worth the deductible or not much more than that in the first place. Plus teenagers typically are the cause of the accident to non-teenagers. Sorry just an actuarial fact. You get liability only due to 1. cost; 2. deductible vs. value of vehicle.
I agree though that sucks.

I almost did this the other day wit a v8 range rover. while staring like a startled dog at a girl walking alongside the road. Fortuneatly in my case all I got was a dirty look in the mirror of the car in front after I had screeched about an inch or so away from their bumper, oops.
Unlucky man but at least your not hurt. Do you know what's going to need fixing? Doesn't look to bad compared to some accidents I've seen, you are lucky it was on center and not to the side, thats when rear ending gets hairy.

Sucks, but I can't be too sympathetic. If you rear-end someone, it's your fault. As someone that primarily rides a motorcycle almost everywhere, I really hope you take this as a learning experience and pay better attention to the road.

First, I'm sorry to hear about your accident, Ghidorah. It's a rear-ender, and unfortanatly, it's pretty cut and dried. Did he suddenly change lanes, cut you off, etc?
Second, in most US states, there are three major types of auto property damage coverage:
Liability: covering other people for your feth-ups
Collision: Covering yourself for your own feth-ups
Comprehensive: The catch all "wierd gak" category, like theft, wind damage, glass chipping*, animal strikes**, vandalism
The more you cover, the more it costs. If you still have a loan on your vehicle, comp and Collison are REQUIRED so the bank can recover the costs of the vehicle.
*if you have a chip in your windshield, call your insurance company. Glass Companies can often put a clear resin in the chip that will prevent further cracking. Most companies will waive the deductable cost to repair the windshield instead of replacing it (it's cheaper to repair than replace)
**If you hit a deer, etc, DON'T wash your car before the adjuster sees it. If the adjuster cannot see signs of an animal strike, they might be forced to put it under collision instead of comp. Which will probably affect your rates more.
All this being said, it's been 15 years since I worked in insurance, and it was only in MD, DC and VA law. Your state laws and indiviual policy may vary.
