There is only one picture of a painted Imperial Fist in the 5th Ed Codex:Space Marines. And that's of Captain Lysander!! Why oh why have GW forgotten about one of the best chapters, a founding legion, and second to the Codex Astartes only to the Ultramarines!!!??!

I've really started to like the Imperial fists, especially after seeing some cool paintjobs. I know that the yellow is a bit bright and gaudy, and it can be really hard to paint well. But its such a pity.

The rumour mill could start though, because in the aforementioned codex there is some very cool artwork of the imperial fists. On the sternguard vets page you can see the imperial fists fighting on earth. On the rhino page you can see them walking. But best of all, on the Chapter Master page there is a very cool picture of a Chapter master holding two hammers and loads of Fist iconography...hmmm I wonder who's chapter master he is?

I love the Fists, and I hope other dakkaites love them too. So does anyone else feel cheated at their lack in the new codex? Does anyone have some cool pics of Fists painted up in all their raiment and glory? Here attached is my favourite Imperial Fist and my inspiration to make a strike force...

Lysander was so last Codex. No new model to sell. Vulcan is where it's at now.

I play Fists of the Crimson variety, but I think Imperial Fists are pretty cool too. Would be nice if they got a little more attention, especially given how awesome Lysander is as an HQ.

Despite the lack of representation in the codex there has been a huge upsurge of Fists popularity over the past year.

I've seen more project logs for fists than any other chapter. Here, at warseer, and at B&C. Not to mention the GD miniatures.

Oddly enough seeing so many other people do these projects has killed what was once an urge to make an Imperial fists force myself.

I really enjoy the Imperial Fists color scheme and iconography.

Imperial Yellow was also the color of the Chinese Emperors of I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) the Han Dynasty. Pretty cool stuff. The Yellow Dragon was the Imperial dragon. Imperial Fists were the defenders of Terra during the Heresy. Either that is some pretty interesting coincidence, or someone at GW knew their Chinese history

Yellow is probably one of the most difficult colours to pull off as the main colour on a mini. With SM being the gateway army for every tween that wanders into a GW, there is no way they'd buy more minis if their first mini looked like total gak. Ultramarines are easy to paint on a black primed surface and even the symbol is relatively easy to paint. If you can write a capital U, you can fudge an Ultramarine symbol. It's marketing. If you look closely in codices you'll see a lot of the trooper minis are painted in 4 or 5 colours. Only the HQ or the showcase ones are done a notch up.

I think the Imperial Fists are awesome too. I don't have an army, but anytime they have those "paint a Space marine" contest, I always break out the yellow.

Dude its all pointless. PPl used to try to stump my agruements about chapters by saying to "Look at IG doctrines" OK those are gone yet still there are many IG models and different factions that still use the same set of rules.

WHy then other than for financial reasons does GW still continue to put out separate DEx's for marines. ORks are another army with separate factions that all use the same dex.

If you want Imperial fiest, blood angels or whatever just paint them acordingly. Otherwise, go back to what I heard a few years ago. Call the game "Space marines and thier wacky friends".

Hey, I remember that thread on 4chan! Remember this incarnation of him, wearing his holy armour of FistFist?

Oh, balls on a stick, the picture has a bad word in it. Damn tightarse rules.

so....its great to see how this thread is going??!!? I reckon that the Fists have the potential to take on any other Chapter in their fluff and still come out tops. I'm really gutted that there are histories for every battle that the Ultramarines have fought, but nothing like that for the Fists. And besides, the Ultramarines have only one sector of the universe to defend, while the Fists are fleet based and they're kicking ass all over the universe!

The only way to do something about it apart from griping is to write some fluff of my own!

Beware fellow dakkadakkers, I'm going to start a project log!

ps. here's another picture of Imperial Fist mk8 inspiration!!!

I've always liked the Imperial Fists. I wish they were more than a Special Character who gives alternate rules.

I think GW should maker special characters chapter specific again
That if anything else should raise the interest in them.

But i think its more of a case that the eavy metal boyz cant paint em to save thier lives

Also, one of fave chapters gets nerfed big time :(
Poor iron hands.

Even the previous (4th edition) codex represented the Fists better. They're still a cool chapter though, and the founders of my homebrew chapter.

The Imp Fists and their successors have a pretty big presence in my Deathwatch army, with my two Tac and one Dev squad being led by a Crimson Fist, a Black Templar and a Imperial Fist(respectively). My Crusading Marine army is made from three different Chapters, one a White Scar successor and the other two Imperial Fist successors.

I respect any army that brazenly walks into combat wearing bright yellow armour. That shows a faith that can only be matched by someone wearing bright white armour (NATO tanks don't count).

That reminds me of that Imperial Fist Deathwatch captain in Warrior Brood/Warrior Coven (yes, the ones by C.S. Goto). He was one of the few good things in those awful books. Sadly, he got eaten by a Talos.

For ages the Imp Fists would be the SM army I would choose to collect if I ever left the dark side of CSM (now I would do a Sal founded chapter, because I want to do a kind of refugee protection army, but hey). I love the colours of the IF's.

I also love those MK8 suits above... I will definately have to steal those if I ever start an SM army.

If only...

Saim-Hann/Iyanden/Beil-Tan/etc.
Alpha Legion/Word Bearers/etc.
Ork specific warbands...

GW (even if they are Smurfs) are not gonna change the route they have taken, and will continue taking out army specific rules...and replace it with 'count as'.

Imperial Fist should and will not get any special treatment...at least for now...

When that day will come? Maybe after they update the Dark Eldar codex

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Anti-Marine rants aside, I do miss the days of WD army lists. It wasn't so long ago we'd get a new chapter or IG regiment or whatever each issue.

Some of the lists were pretty bad but I was so disappointed when GW stopped doing them rather than try and fix them.

true dat, but the armoured company list they printed for the IG made an all but invincible army, maybe thats why they withdrew?

I do hope to be productive with my whine, and do something about it!

So keep your eyes peeled for some made up characters and written histories and other fluff.

The fists shall rise again.

Not only that, the half page of info they do have does little more than invalidate their background as previously established in their Index Astartes article and Black Library novel.

Never bothered me about the latest marine codex not having imperial fist background in.

I think they're a interesting chapter, but not too goodie like ultramarines. Have some nice background, which is more better than ultramarines.

Yellow isn't that hard to paint on a white undercoat either.
