OK so here is the deal I want you all to try to come up with the best 500pt army list you can and post it here.

Why don't you start off with one?

166 Grots is around 500 Points
150 Grots is 450, then you can just fill it out w/ random runtherders

This is one I am considering doing. I like it because you can build it out of one Ravenwing battleforce box.

If you give them the minimalist amount of gear you can get 4 SM tactical squads in Rhinos.

Line them up side-by-side. On your turn declare Tank Shock with all 4 of them. Start with the left-most Rhino so you opponent has to move his models to the right. Then the next one, and then one after that. By the time you've done all 4 tank shocks you'll have pushed their army off the board

61 wounds with 5 autocannons and 6 grenade launchers to mangle enemy transports. the first 2 infantry squads blob up and get ordered to FRFSRF, while the CCS orders the autocannon teams to bring it down, and the master of ordnance drops wildly inaccurate but stupidly cheap S9 AP3 ord. barrage bombs on the enemy backfield.

Only thing is, these 10 scouts+land raider armies would be invincible.... oh well! a Land raider can't kill 60 guardsmen; this army would win objectives, LR army would win KP.

4 BS4 autocannons, 4 BS3 ML, and 4 HF. Sit in the back hammering out 5.33 S7 and 6 S6 hits a turn, then tank shock/HF whoever makes it that far. The 2 CCS autocannons could be dropped for meltas rather easily to contend with a Land Raider..... twin-linked BS4 meltaguns will usually do the job.

Just one off the top of my head (i.e. untested)

armored lascannon that shouldn't fall back that easily that can pop your single lr if you bring one

and the 70 other guys just sit there and plow through infantry.

yeah, the more i look at this, the more it makes me want to drop my tank company to play all infantry.

There. Now it even has a scoring unit! Make a circle of walkers with grots in the middle, stomp across the table wrecking everything. Play to table people, but you can still cap one objective and contest the rest if you have to. 12 S6 blasts will do the deed on hordes while 23 S10 power weapon attacks when charging ruin tanks and low save schmucks.

Killa Kans with a KFF behind them is, as we all know, so juicy it's wrong. If there were points, and I didn't need it for troops, I'd trade the Deff in for more!

I like what you're going for, but I'd take it one step further:

2x Hive Tyrant - Toxin Sacs, Ext. Carapace, Enhanced Senses, 2 TL Devourers 186 each
2x 8 Gaunts - Spinefists, Without Number 64 each

Virtually nothing can catch Flyrants in CC if they don't want to be caught, and 24 BS4 S5 shots that reroll to hit and wound will mess up anybody's day (That's 19 saves a turn on T4, or 12 on T6). Vehicles giving you trouble? Glance AV11 to death, or split up and get side shots for things like Chimeras. Assault anything else; 8 S6+2d6 attacks will break open anything else.
