So my wife's b-day is the same day that the new Space Wolves stuff gets released. I had pretty much consigned myself to not getting any of it for at least a week, since I would be spending my extra cash on her. I'm cool with that. I can wait. No problem. Last night during a conversation about what she would like to go do for her birthday, she suddenly asked me about the SW release. I explained that since it was the same day as her b-day, I had planned on taking her out and would get my fix in a couple of weeks, to which she replies that she would MUCH rather I go pick up the stuff I had been waiting for! I almost fell off of the couch. So, tomorrow I am going, with her, to my FLGS to retrieve my new codex, etc. HOW COOL IS THAT?!?!? Anyone else have a wonderful better half story, or am I the only guy on Dakka to get this lucky?

If i may express my opinion on this .
Your wife is a great person for been able to do that. Yes i know you are very happy that she mentioned the space wolves , but are you sure thats what she wanted?
She is willingly putting her b-day aside so you can pick the wolves you always wanted, she is sacrificing her wants for you , even on her own b-day!
That is just amazing and selfless thing to do . If you appreciate that , i think you should say something like this:
"My dear, im so happy that im speechless that you would want me to get the wolves even on your bday , but you are the most important thing to me in this world .
So even though you say i can get them , i still want that day to be for you , and only you . The SW really can wait another day , let the bday just be you and me "
Wait a week to get the Space Wolves , but she'll remember your love for her from that forever.

Gentlemen (and Ladies if applicable), I should probably also mention that she plays 40K also, and her favorite army just happens to be my beloved 'Wolves! Knowing this, there just might be a bit of an alterior motive on her part. It might also be that I make a pretty good living and she doesn't want for a thing! LOL!!

In that case , tell your friend to go pick up space wolves for you 2 , give him the house key to throw the boxes in the house when you and your wife are out.
Take her on a cruise , return home , open door = see boxes of space wolves.
Everyone wins. You 2 can have a busy and exciting night making puppies. ( no i dont mean furries! )

Yea, what you SHOULD do. Is pretend to take her with you to buy said SW. But instead surprise her with a nice night out. That way you look like the greatest husband in the world, and your wife will be happy. Then in a few weeks, go crazy, infact because of this, she will allow you to buy even MORE SW stuff. Sounds like a win to me.
Thats what I do to mine and it works like a charm

Yea I almost fell for that trap once. It was our anniversary and the misses overheard me saying I would not be able to make it to the big BBQ-Tourny my FLGS was having.
She told me I could go, only because she knew Warhammer is one of the few things I enjoy doing.
For a split second I almost said "Thanks sweetie your the best!"
Then I remembered my wife is a woman and offered to take her somewhere fancy.

I game every Saturday.
I start gaming at about noon (having left at about 11 to get there on time) and return home whenever the heck I feel like it. Typically, midnight or later. Rarely ever before 11 pm. Her only requirement is that I call her when I'm on my way home, so she doesn't wonder where I am.
I have 40K every week, except for my 1 AD&D Saturday a month.
My wife approves.
We're renovating about half of the basement to be a HUGE gaming area and have a built in workroom for my painting, assembling and computer.
She also doesn't care when I go to... gentlemen's clubs... with my buddies on the occasional Friday night (note: in addition to, not instead of gaming). These nights usually start about 9 and end at 2... or 3... or 4...
Yes. I think this qualifies.

Why do you guys keep saying letting you choose an obvious path = traps?
Thats like saying when you first went dating , would you have bought GW stuff for yourself on your gf's bday?
If you wouldnt do it back then , why change now after you are married?
Because you take each other for granted? I dont think anything in the world should be taken for granted.
Letting her know your love for her now has not diminished since when you first started dating = the best present she can get.

My wife has been very patient about B-days these past few years. But unfortunately for me she was a valentines baby.
Two years ago we were both working on her B-day (we worked together at the time) and we got to spend the evening together in the ER as an escaping psych patient had punched me in the head eight times...

Did you say obvious path? HA!!
My girlfriend is able to think around corners that arent available in this galaxy. But when it comes down to remembering the simplest of directions, shes the biggest putz. There aint no such thing as obvious paths or clear motives when in the realm of female thinking. Or none that I have found (and Im no longer looking lol).

Heh, once that's done, you don't have to leave the home.
I don't think many wives like it when their husbands go to gentleman's clubs, as the "ladies" there often don't behave in a "ladylike" fashion...

I think you misunderstood what i said.
She gave you an obvious path for you to "choose" , one that will always lead you requiring to sacrifice what you want for what she wants . ( self sacrifice is the ultimate love )
Like you said , you cant find it or not sure if you can see it. Sort of like this picture:

The only way I would have a problem with my wife over going to a 'gentlemen's club' would be if I didn't take her with me! Besides all of that, after the last 14 years we've had, I'm not too worried about her trying to pull the 'trap' card. Unless she is secretly planning on guilting me into letting her play my 'Wolves army in the upcoming tourney! Ah Hellz! That HAS to be her motivation!!!!

Hi Guys, this is the wife in question. No, contrary to popular concensus, this is not a trap. Yes I do plan on guilting him into letting me play them, on occasion and seeing as how there is nothing I can think of that I want or need at the moment, nothing is going to make me happier than seeing my husband playing with his puppies! Besides, this gives me a giant ace in the hole towards the cruise I want to go on for X-mas!! My husband constantly puts himself to the side for myself and our children and asks for nothing in return, so this to me is very important, and, in fact, I would probably get mad at him if he didn't go get them! So to all of you naysayers, if you don't have a good reason, i.e.birthday, anniversary, etc. , to do for your wife, then do for her anyway - it just may pay off later! Happy Gaming! Your's Truly, The Greatest Wife Ever!!!

That is wonderful! Personally, every moment I have with my other half is the greatest. She always is willing to play a list that I want to try and always encourages me when my rolling is absolutely terrible. Which, lets face it, happens to everyone. She never gets an attitude and actually likes to play left 4 dead, halflife, DOD, CS, farcry, and all of my crazy custom 40k skirmish scenarios. It makes me happy when she uses all the things I give her like copies of my list, painting ideas for her bugs, and takes my copies of skirmishes and edits them. I just like it when I know she doesn't just tolerate my hobby, but enjoys it and doesn't rely on me completely for enjoying it for herself.

In all honesty, good for the both of you. I've been married for ten years and my wife is accommodating and understanding of my hobby. She even offered to learn to play when I was having trouble finding an opponent. I digress though; hope the both of you have many a fine game of 40K.
