By request from Anung I am restarting the original thread. Be AWARE: Discriminatory statements based on nationality other than slight reibald comments ARE NOT PERMITTED ON DAKKA PER THE GRANDPOOBAH YAKFACE.
Original post:
I've alreay written so much about this stuff on my blog and elsewhere on the web over the last few days, so I'll just give you to news posts to sum it up:
The Escapist
The escapist wrote:
A German group calling itself Aktionbundnis Amoklauf Winnenden is calling on people to turn in their violent videogames as part of the Families Against Killer Games event, taking place this Saturday night in Stuttgart.
Formed by families of the victims of the school shooting in Winnenden, Germany, earlier this year, the Action Alliance is one of several groups in the country seeking to link that incident, and violent youth behavior in general, to violent videogames. An effort by the German government to ban violent games outright ran aground this summer, so the Action Alliance has gone to Plan B: If you can't ban 'em, burn 'em.
Or at the very least, collect them up in one convenient location, presumably for safe disposal later. Thus, the group is holding the "Familien gegen Killerspiele" event on October 17, inviting everyone to come to the State Opera House in Stuttgart, where they can toss their violent videogames into a big bin. People who throw away a game will be entered into a draw for a jersey signed by the German national soccer team.
I'm not going to make the obvious joke about what happened the last time Germany tried something like this but according to GamePolitics there is an interesting connection to the country's Nazi past: The stylized image of a person throwing a videogame into the trash used in promotional material for the event is a modified version of one used to encourage citizens to do away with the swastika, using a game disc in place of the infamous Nazi symbol.

And this is how it ended.

While I bear no resentment against people from Germany, I have a severe dislike for many of the country's politicians and the policies that they advocate, concerning censorship and other restrictions placed on people because of an irrational fear of violence and a distrust in the ability of their people to make decisions for themselves.
I also hate run-on sentences.

1) which booze to send to frazzled?
2) The"AAW" failed badly. My comment to their idea:
3) The whole "killerspiele" discussion is just a diversion from the lack of responsibility of the politicians.
- we dont have our own software-companies for games, easy to blame the games.
- most politicians have no idea about games. Fear of the unknown combined with cheap ( useless ) 'solutions'.
4) violence in video-games is 'bad'.
- Lets have them find out about 40k.......

Perhaps you could make your own taco salad out of certain forms of nachos, but I would not consider that a true taco salad. After all, tacos are made with taco shells, and without a taco casing, you have no taco; in other words, you would be taco-less when you are eating a plate of nachos. You could think of it as a taco bullet, vs. a nacho salad; but truly though, your definition of taco simply will not validate your claim anymore than my nacho awesomeness... Enjoy your taco salad, because they are out of nachos, and because of this, you are limited to the choice of a taco salad; in order to fill you nacho needs. That... is absolutely epic. I see at least one whole animal in there, but in a chopped up form obviously. Now... if that animal could fight back while I was eating it, then... and only then would it win the entire internet. Until that time though... your epic nachos will have to lurk... waiting... plotting... planning...
dogma wrote:I think the presence of lettuce disqualifies any given dish from nacho-dom.
You see there you make your mistake though, only a fool eats that lettuce. It is like saying that a margarita is ruined by the salt, because you were taking that salt by the teaspoon, like a chaser. If you had just enjoyed that sprinkling of refreshing salt, instead of trying to eat the garnish, your experience would have been much more fulfilling.
I will concede, that the prescence of both parsley, AND lettuce, their is a bit of a presentation issue. BUT... this is not the end of the world, as the chips are made for dipping, and there is absolutely no way to dip lettuce... I mean damn though, logic comes in handy when it comes to nachos.
Now, this taco bullet you describe, would it come with hot sauce?
No... but it will come with a magazine that sells hotsauce, and is capable with pretty much any .22 caliber pistol. The future is that not of mace, and tazers, but that of taco bullets, and jetsons style meals. Not all guns kill you see, some of them feed, but not by the bullet; by the taco.
* taco sauce not actually included in this product.
On a side-note though, if the presence of garnish disqualifies any plate from actually being nachos, I would assume that because of this, the tortilla chips are also a moot point. Hence... these are also nachos. Just use your imagination... and drink that Velveeta cheese.

Velveeta...*shudder*...
However, the tortilla chips are integral to the nacho-ness of the thing. A part of the Platonic form, if you will. The lettuce is merely an echo of the thing that is nacho, added by the frail heart of man. It is but a shadow on the wall of a cave...

This is the true shadow... the shadow of not being a taco at all. WHAT KIND OF GAME ARE YOU PLAYING WITH MY DINNER!!!
You can think that is a taco, as much as you want, but it is no more realistic than my dream to be a burrito. If I were a burrito, I would be satisfied at all times.
BrookM wrote:Isn't there a saying that where you burn games you shall one day burn people?
Same with the saying, if you "burn pot", you will one day "burn people"; and in doing so, you shall have denied yourself access to the silo of nachos. At which point, you are left with little more than a pile of melted plastic, and a severe lack of nacho intake.
Bit of a stretch but they did it with books and look what they did then? Good to see that those people have common sense at last, except for the people who dumped those five games and that flyer in there.

Wahre worte, mein Freund!
True, being german meself I've seen lots of stupid rallies against "killergames"...
now i've been playing CS COD and even sometimes this pointless and unrealistic game called halo for years...do i go out and shoot someone?NO
do ever i feel like killing someone?YES but that's got nothing to do with shooters...i mean C'MON the argument "Shooters make kids wanna shoot other kids" is about as good and true as "The holocaust never happened"...look at how these kids grew up...the parents probs being working class, daddy working all day then watching soccer and goin to pubs with mates/drinking, and mommy working all day(HEAPS of german parents are like this), there's no wonder kids become like this, when their parents don't care about them.
The fact that they played shooters may give them the IDEA to kill someone, but it's not the games fault, but rather that of the parents....but that's only my 55 cents...
