People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Relying on a single ticket to bring you fortune is a sign that you're lazy.
People who enter lotteries are stupid. I hate tickets, too. Damn fiddly things, and you always lose them. God, I hate losing things! It makes me pissed off and I screw up my painting.
I mean, what the dick, man.

Of course lotteries are stupid to Cheese. Don't think he's old enough to play (not sure gambling laws over there, it's 18 here).
I don't put my hopes and dreams into the lotto but buying $5 worth of tickets a month hardly constitutes a gambling problem.

It's not the fact that you're gambling, it's the fact that it takes no effort at all. I earnmy money, as should everyone.

After extensive testing, the crows don't drop the nuts any more when there are cars on the road than when there aren't any cars coming. (Slightly less, actually, as they're afraid of getting hit.)
The crows don't even make a distinction between roads and any other large, hard, flat surface.

If someone invests their money in something (even if it's usually a poor investment), they shouldn't get the return of their investment? Why not?
He earned the money he used to pay for the ticket. He then chose to use his money to buy a slight chance to make more money. He should get what he payed for; instead someone apparently embezzled his money and ran away to Nepal.

You don't live with your parents Cheese?
A lot of jobs can take no effort at all, and you can still get paid. A lot of jobs also pay such large amounts of money, the only logic behind it is that no one else will charge less, in such a field. All of this is relative, and calling someone who gets lottery tickets lazy, is simply freaking silly. In most cases, around 1/3 to 1/2 of the money will be taxed by the state or country, so in essence, you are complaining about a service that provides more tax dollars than you are likely to make in your entire life.
I have known a few people that figured out how to make a small amount of money through legal gambling, and I would hardly call them lazy, or a gambling addict at all. Apparently scratchers are a decent way to make cash. It is all about the odds, and if you feth up... well, we have all played with dice before, and most of us have had terrible, terrible games. It just comes with the territory.
If someone invests their money in something (even if it's usually a poor investment), they shouldn't get the return of their investment? Why not?
There is no reason besides anger at the world really. It would be like complaining about high-risk investors, who in essence, bring access to new and rather amazing products, by the sheer ballsy-havingness that they possess. High risk, for high return. Same thing with any lottery really, unless you are playing for pies or something... The difference is that in a pool so large, everyone's odds get incredibly low, but in turn, they get a much higher payout; and the system usually works amazingly well.

At ridiculous odds, lotteries are frequently referred to as taxes on the stupid. However I enjoy indulging in stupid things on a frequent basis, so why draw the line here!

It's not about relying on scratchies or Lotto tickets. Most other people have jobs too.
But it's the possibility that you could win.

Yeah, lotto tax in Mn is between 40-50% depending on what you win. If I spend $5 to win $200M by the time taxes are taken out I'm left with approximately $90M plus for as long as I have that kind of money making interest in a bank or some other taxable account the gov't keeps getting money from me (be it smaller than the interest I garner but still equates to $100's of thousands per year in tax).
If I invest into CD's (not compact discs either) I don't pay taxes till I pull it out but anything invested is held from me until the CD matures (anywhere from 3-10 years) than when I cash in the CD it's taxed again as earned income.
So if I win $200M in the lotto by the time the money is gone the state of Mn will have probably collected about 4/5ths of that in taxes from me over lets say the 30 years it takes me to spend it all and the Fed. government will have made about 1/3rd of that off me in 30 years.
Lotto players are actually helping the economy (and in the Powerball which is like 8 or 9 states wide it goes to improving the States roads and other public works).
Being lazy would be panhandling and not working and using panhandle money to buy lotto tickets. Me working and earning my $5 per month to buy lotto tickets is not being lazy.

Just wait 'til you start having to pay rent then... you'll change, boy... you'll change.
...also, you can't be cheated (taxed) for personal lottery winnings under Australian law. However, future interest on that amount counts, and if grandma gets lucky and pops a 100K into your bank account, then you're sure as hell going to get taxed on it.

Tzeentch works like that. His target age is 18 when young men/women are forced to face the world. So easy for his power to wax when he starts to influence fresh, out of school 18year olds.

Dammit, you beat me to it. I was going to say it was a tax on people who are bad at math. QFT The Spock in me is all like, "Captain, this is not logical." But the kid in me is like "WOOHOO, FREE MONEYZ!1! WEEEEEE!"
The wife and I buy two low-stakes tickets each once a month. I enjoy a family outing to the farmer's market on a Saturday morning, followed by a trip to the donut shop. Ham, egg and cheese croissant, coffee and a crossword or two. Fun times. Costs 8 USD for possible winnings of 5000 USD a ticket.
20% we get around 10-20 USD back
50% No earnings
30% Free ticket, and experience the thrill and suspense all over again. Not two shabby
These numbers are just a rough estimate, not the actual occurrence ratio. I'm a software tester; I eat, breathe and gak percentages...

Not a career, no. Why wouldn't part-time work at a store (the only thing I actually have time for) be a job? Is this a lead-up to another one of your pathetic personal attacks?
That ignore button is tempting.

To be entirely clear though, part time work at the mall... if you happen to be working in a laid back establishment (you have never had a minimum wage job from hell before eh? ) can be very easy pay. Part time jobs, can be just as strenuous as a full time job on the other hand (obvious differences not withstanding), point mainly being that an independent part time job (professional hobby really), can take up well beyond 40 hours a week; minus all the benefits, and the guarantees, and the general stuff like that of that nature and stuff.
Before I make this a rant though, I will just say that the job market is so diverse nowadays, and competition so fierce in most areas; that you do have to start to approach it from different angles. If the economy doesn't get any better, I will be forced to find serious alternatives to my chosen career; and this in a nutshell, makes the outlook for a lot of careers in general, pretty damn shaky if you ask me. I would love to be a full time artist, but back in reality, I am not one to starve for my "art". This takes graphic design essentially out of the picture as well, mainly due to the massive amount of people forcing their way by brute force into that field; and otherwise blocking many stable opportunities, I could have had open.
Most people I knew from high school, have no clue and a fething half about what it is they actually want to do. On top of this, a lot of college students think that there is a magical faery land of jobs, just waiting to pick them up right after college. Supersaturated career paths... make me sad.
