hey there Dakka... Just a word of warning, when GW offers the Space Marine Battle Company "box set" DO NOT BUY IT!!!!!!! it was my first ever GW purchase over a year ago, and even still, less than a quarter of it has been assembled and painted. Long story short, in order to prevent burnout on any one army, i have since broken the box down to 3 different chapters, spanning 2 chapters.

Without Further ado, my Iron Snakes progress:

C/C is most welcome and appreciated, Especially on my captain model, as i am not sure where to proceed with major colors (i know the purity seals and some things like that, but where else can i improve him?)

hope you enjoy them and i hope to hear what y'all have to say

Got another update here dakka. My captain for the Iron Snakes army is nearly completed. At this stage, he only has a few more highlights and washing to be done.

So, without further ado:

C/C is wanted, and very much appreciated. enjoy!

It's alright. I personally perceived the Iron Snakes as more of a duller silver but it looks fine.

hey there dakka. Life has somewhat gotten in the way of the building of this army, but ive recently finished off the captain (pictures to come once i take them), and one Sergeant of the 2 tac squads.

Hoping to get some feedback on him, see what y'all think:

again, hoping to get some C/C on this, as generally speaking this is going to be the look of the entire force.

I like the colours now the washes are on.

I hate that sword arm pose, it looks really awkward imo.

Looks a world better with the washes, but I agree with MGS, the sword arm looks like a mistake

Most of your freehand is quite good, but your writing could use some work. Don't expect to do it all in one stroke; try drawing it on lightly in pencil and going over it two or three times with the brush, very slowly for precision and smoothness.

My breakdown of your sergeant:

Pros:
-Reverse-gripped sword makes for one badass pose.
-Nice freehand on shoulders.
-Shading on eyes, jewel and wreath is spot on.
-Golden eagle is well-executed.
-Colour scheme is pleasing to the eye.

Cons:
-All that silver is too flat. You ought to add a dark wash and more highlights.
-Would look more realistic if the ribbed joints of the armour were black.
- Belt buckle is boring, contributes to monotonous look. Consider painting it gold with a red or blue gem in the center.
-Painting the belt a different colour would also help with the monotony.

I completely agree with everything Owain said. I especially feel that the belt, when painted differently, would really help the overall look of the model. But besides that, get some wash on them to make them look as awesome as that crazy sword posed beast

Good stuff!

got a bit of an update for ya. im rather surprised at how quickly i can turn these guys around, and so i have yet to do any sort of "assembly line" painting.

ive been working recently on the squad banners, and have a bit of an update for the progress of them.

this first one is for Squad Medusa, and its probably my first genuine attempt at freehand small scale detail painting.

this next one, isnt done yet, im just not sure exactly what to do in order to get to my "goal" look. what i want, eventually is for the squad name to be "sewn" onto the banner (ie, i paint the individual letters) only problem is, im not sure what color to go with, and what to do with the snake outline.

anyways, please let me know what y'all think and how i can improve on them

C/C is always welcome and appreciated, i would like comments on peoples thoughts on what to do with the red banner from where its at currently.

Who's that guy with the dual bolt pistols? Sorry to break it to you but it looks either odd or awesome, I'm not sure which yet.

Otherwise a solid job, your rhinos are looking cool so far.

I vote awesome on the kneeling 2-pistol guy. Also, I disagree with the fellow who disliked the underhand sword grip on your sarge- it looks good.

Keep it up! You're off to a great start. It's good that you're working on your freehand too.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

I like the reverse grip on the sword. I think the oddness that people are picking up on is the orientation of the blade. At the moment it looks like he's going to hit someone with the flat of the blade, rather than slicing them with the edge

The marines look absolutely awesome.

I recommend working on your free hand. A great way to do this is by measuring spaces first , then using graph paper. Center a + in the paper on the center of your dimension, and then use a dull pencil to lightly sketch things out. When writing on something like the front of a tank, remember you don't need to WRITE, just make the shapes. the D of a P can be made before you even attach the | to it. Cs can be made with 2 strokes starting in the middle, etc. The idea being you spend a lot more time writing on whats on the tank than the time it took me to even type a few words here.

Just a petpeve of mine, your army looks so good and I just don't agree with the text on the rhino bumpers.

The freehand on the blue rhino's door is incredible. Have you been painting elves, sir? Elf players are notorious for being able to put ridiculous things on shields like it was applying a decal.

You know, I gotta give you credit for your choice in theme here. I am not a fan of heavy use of the "metallic" paints, yet despite that prejudice of taste I look at these guys and I love 'em. They're dripping with character, and the whole army just has kind of a general "hell yeah" feeling for me. Bravo.

hey there Dakka, i recently got a case of the Shinies, and got myself some LotD for my Iron Snake army, and have been working on some of them. My spray booth has enough space that i can squeeze 3-4 marines in, but do 2 comfortably for priming... Sooooo, i have 3 of my LotD completed, and wanted some C/C on them from you, the kind and gentle WAAAAGH! conductors of Dakka:

again, C/C is greatly appreciated, and asked for here. hope you guys enjoy, look forward to your input

and i just realized after posting pics, that the metal plate thing underneath the foot of the heavy flamer marine still needs paint, and i shall do that at some point

Wait, your name means Iron Snakes in Latin. So this blog is Iron Snake's Iron Snakes?
[/latingeek]

The only problem I have is that there's no variety, or I can't see it. You should try putting some highlights in on the metal.

And I, like several other people in this thread, take issue with the reverse grip on the sword. I get that you probably did it because it looks fairly badass, but holding a sword like that is unrealistic. A dagger held that way works, but the length of a sword makes holding it like that extremely impractical
