I prefer Andy McKee, but this sort of thing doesn't appeal to me, generally. It IS impressive from a technical standpoint, but then so is a suspension bridge.

Very impressive. He needs to get together with the bass player from Primus. That would be an awesome band with the right drummer.

I agree with Albatross. I would never pay too much interest to that sort of stuff, it's more like a tech demo than music.

Kaki King is good though; she tends to write songs along with playing guitar in that style.

Nah, the reason I suck at playing guitar has more to do with lack of responsiveness of my left thumb (bisected the radial nerve back in 1989). If I so much as touch an electric guitar string with the edge of my thumb (where the scar leads straight to the nerve ending), my whole hand spasms.

Following this mans technique, among various others,is the reason I don't suck at bass.
However, the video Gwar showed was interesting.

Nobody can hold a candle to Les Claypool from Primus.

I will agree with you that Claypool is talented, and extremely inovative, but there are a number of bass players who IMO blow him away.

As a guitarist myself, I think that style is interesting as a novelty only.

I find it similar to the Christmas bell ringers. It's neat to listen to, but once a year is about all I can take.

If he actually played a TUNE I would be impressed. That was just awful.

Wow,I've always considered Buddy Hankerson to be one of the premire funk bassist ever, but I guess it's a matter of taste....at least we agree on the Misfits.

GEne Simmons is a fine bass player and so is Sting. The thing about the bass is it ties the music together, it was never meant to be a lead instrument. The Doors did not have a bass player. Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix are my two favorite guitar players. Jimmy Page was a studio musician before he decided to join Led Zepplin. Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton actually grew up in the same neighborhood and jammed together as teenagers then drifted apart. Eric left the Yardbirds the same day their manager told him that he had to let Jimmy play a few leads. I certainly respect Eric for his ability, he never played a song in public unless he had practiced it at least several hundred times. Jimmy on the other hand could improvise on the spot, which is the main reason why I liked him better. It just seems like unless you like metal there is not much good guitar rock left to listen to anymore these days. Maybe I am just overly dated.

Funny enough the roots of rock stemmed from the blues. I am a big fan of Robert Johnson.

Blues depresses me. Blues makes me want to drink too much and take too many sleeping pills.

Not bashing blues, just how I feel so for me I don't consider any blues musician great.

Rock emulated the blues. That's right, bands like Led Zepplin, Cream and the Rolling Stones were just copying an earlier format.

Maybe so but Zeppelin doesn't make me want to take an entire bottle of Advil and wash it down with a fifth of vodka. Just something personally in blues music does it for me.

I go all emo when I listen to Stevie Ray Vaughn and other blues musicians. I'll actually play Zeppelin or Floyd when I feel like painting.
