I was thinking of Stuff to loot...Looted Carnefix does not make much sense so why not think of something others have done that orks can loot. People have done Carnefix and Defiler apparently. Baneblade and Devilfish and Wave Serpent and Basilisk and all sorts of other stuff. However I searched around and found nothing on Looted Soul Grinders....so?
Is it possible? Does anyone have any ideas of how I can start this? Like...replace the arms with deff dread arms and put the head in with something else and metal plate the body or somethin?

I can't see a daemon itself being looted, but the mechanical bottom half presumably could be looted - although then you pretty much have a Defiler bottom half anyway...
I suppose a mekboy could have looted the mechanical bits left over from a dead soul grinder, used it as a cybork body for a badly wounded warboss, the boss survived but the chaos components have caused a lot of mutation and swelling (the ork doesn't mind as it's made him a better fighter). Modellingwise, you'd just need an orkier looking head, then generally add orky bits to all of the model, covering most of the chaosy bits.
Of course, unless you're only planning on using such a conversion in Apocalypse (using normal soul grinder rules) then you need to decide what this model will count as in the ork codex... Hmm, count as a Warboss in a battlewagon (adding lots of rails and handles so that a mod can use him as transport) and add a self-imposed rule that the warboss can't leave the vehicle? Or mabe that would be too weird. :(

Well heres my looted defiler (about halfway down) still needs some finishing though. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/227206.page
If i were going to loot a soul grinder i'd keep the daemon and build a platform on its back, then have a few wierdboys on its back goading it with thier staffs/ steering with chains. Then, add pistons and armour to the body and orkify the lower half.

Yeah, I agree with Clang, it's very unfluffy to loot a Daemon. While looting Tyranids and the like is okay, unlike Tyranids, Daemons are not of the material realm, they're emotions embodied, created from warp energy itself. Therefore it is unlikely that any form of conventional "mind control" or the like would work.
The mechanics (AKA a Defiler) seems perfectly reasonable.
If there's anything Orks can't loot I'd definitely say Daemons is it.

What is it with ork players wanting to loot everything under the sun?
Im all for the practice of "if its not bolted down, you can make a weapon or tank out of it" . . . but when your dealing with things that are like Darth Bob said "emotions embodied"
Thought I do like the idea of taking the killed daemon part of it and sticking a big ass ork in it . . . maybe one of Grotsniks failed experiments. Took the defiler legs then decided to make FRANKEN-ORK

We just went over this. No. Daemons are not truly a living biological thing with the same biological makeup as something of the mortal realm. They are emotions given form made of pure warp energy. You can't control a Daemon. Think of it like trying to mind control a ghost almost.

This also isn't the act like a jackass forum . He asked a question, and I answered it. Is it possible to model one? Sure it is. Is it going to work at all with the fluff (another pretty big aspect of the hobby) no, it won't. Last time I checked, fluff is a major aspect of this hobby. If it wasn't we'd have people using Necrons with Bolters riding Tyranids with freakin' laser beams on their heads (likely painted to look like power-rangers); while that would be quite hillarious and creative, it doesn't sit in well with the fluff.
It's like having a Khorne army with a Sorceror; can you do it? Sure. Does it fit with the fluff. Absolutely not (and you should be sacrificed to Khorne for doing so ).
So with that, I say to the original poster; if you want to loot a Soul Grinder, by all means have at it, but be aware, that it makes absolutely zero sense from a fluff standpoint. If you just want to be the first to say "I was the first person to loot a Soul Grinder" then I say go for it. Personally I think an ork warboss coming out of a defiler in the same fashion as a Grinder is cooler and more creative than the same "LOLOLOL IM ON UR (insert living thing here) CONTROLLIN UR MIND" thing that everyone else seems to do.

Because telling someone they can't do something because of an arbitrary reason isn't being a jackass? I'd have no problem playing against Necrons with Bolters riding Tyranids with freakin' laser beams on their heads if there was something close game-wise to represent them. I'm just sick of seeing people post creative ideas in P&M and then almost immediately someone trying to talk them down from it because of fluff. Seriously, it's old. These aren't real people, they're toys we make look cool and play a pretend game with. Nowhere in what I posted was I offensive, nasty, or condescending. I was simply trying to be informative as to what could be an issue with looting a Soul Grinder (after all, he wasn't explicitly clear when he said "Is it possible?") I'm not talking him down, nor was my intention to make him feel like his idea was stupid, I'm simply telling him that it doesn't sit well with the fluff. You can't loot a Daemon fluff-wise. But if you want to do it for the fun of doing it, because you think it would be a cool and fun project, then go ahead. If done well, it could be very funny. And here I am reiterating the exact same thing I just posted the last time...in the very thing you quoted . Seriously dude, whine about how you're "Sick of (insert b*tching here)" somewhere else, because I couldn't really care less what you're sick of, I'm not your damn shrink, and I'm not interested in a flame war.

Weirdboyz use the warp, the warp is where all psychic energy comes from. Gork n Mork dwell in the warp.
A looted soul grinder sounds interesting. Frankly do whatever you like and enjoy doing it. In painting and modelling we are far more concerned with the technical and artistic ability you utilise in your project than any necessary appealing to somewhat overly strict (and often it would appear, quite wrong) adherence to 'fluff'.

Weirdboys harness the gesalt field produced by orks (also known as WAAAGH!) and act as living conducters and batteries for the energy.
While they DO use emotional energy it isn't the warp as such.

Again, I don't see how living creatures can be made into looted things. Daemon Soul Grinders make even less sense.
Someone should make a Looted Space Marine, then this would be somewhat less weird.

You can't? Somebody better tell Eisenhorn. 'Cause he seemed to be doing alright at if for a while.
If an Inquisitor can bind a Daemon and get it to follow his will, I see no reason that an Ork Wyrdboy, with his potentially unlimited psychic power (Unlimited dependong on the number of boys around and whether or not his head explodes, at least) couldn't do the same.
Darth Bob wrote:Is it possible to model one? Sure it is. Is it going to work at all with the fluff (another pretty big aspect of the hobby) no, it won't. Last time I checked, fluff is a major aspect of this hobby.
The beauty of that fluff is that GW have very deliberately left large chucks of it open for interpretation. Even those bits of it that are clearly defined are open to negotiation... fluff is frequently revised, and often conflicting... sometimes deliberately. The biggest truth in the GW universe (aside from 'Everything you know is a lie') is that anything goes.
So how about we stop telling people why their ideas won't work, and instead try to focus on how it can be made to work?
Personally, I love the idea of a bound and chained Soulgrinder with Orked-up chassis and a Wyrdboy riding pillion keeping him under control. Maybe feeding him snotlings as a sort of 'Scooby Snack' when he behaves.

So from what I gather, I need Weird boyz for this project..
I am also thinking of using maybe the Ork Trukk back. Maybe Have it around the soulders or waist area or something that is "like" it so that its like a plateform and having some Grots or maybe boys. Hopefully maybe I can find one or make one that would look like its "welding" something onto the Soul Grinder as its still being worked on!

Yeah, except Eisenhorn is an Inquisitor; it's pretty much his job to deal with and/or bind demons. Ork Wyrdboys are not Inquisitors. I agree that GW leaves fluff out for people to interperet, but nothing has been left out of the fact that Daemons are not physical beings of the material plane, and cannot be mind-controlled. They could be bound by an Inquisitor like Eisenhorn, but Orks are not Inquisitors.
The only way I could see it working from a fluff perspective is if you had some Ork Wyrdboy who had learn to harness warp energy and use it by Inquisitorial means, which, come to think of it, is actually a really cool idea. You should do that . I can just see an Wyrdboy dressed up in an Orkified Inquisitor raiment .

Darth Bob wrote:Yeah, except Eisenhorn is an Inquisitor; it's pretty much his job to deal with and/or bind demons.
It's actually not. Eisenhorn was Ordo Xenos. His job was dealing with aliens, not daemons. He only knew how to bind Cherubael because he found a book that told him how to do it.
Orks, on the other hand, don't need to be taught what they know. It's either imprinted at a genetic level, or they do it because it seems like a good idea, and it works because they think it will and their psychic potential makes it happen.
So a Weirdboy with the right imprinted knowledge, or who simply decided that imprisoning a daemon was a good idea could quite potentially have as much chance of binding a daemon as Eisenhorn did. Or maybe not as much of a chance... you could look at it as the fact that there is nothing about Orks binding daemons in official fluff is a result of it not actually working very often, with this particular case being a very rare 'exception that proves the rule' sort of case.
That being said, this:
The only way I could see it working from a fluff perspective is if you had some Ork Wyrdboy who had learn to harness warp energy and use it by Inquisitorial means, which, come to think of it, is actually a really cool idea. You should do that . I can just see an Wyrdboy dressed up in an Orkified Inquisitor raiment .
...is a nice image.
I like the truck platform idea. Could work out well.
