Some of you may remember the "Who will be the next Batman villain(s)" thread from several months back, well it got me thinking.
Who?if anyone, could ever play the Joker?
Heath Ledgers performance, for many, has become " The Joker to beat",and though Nolan may not ever revisit The Joker in "his" Batman films, are there any actors that you,Dakka, belive could stand out in the role ?

Personaly,I think that Javier Bardem would make an interesting Joker.

Unless they change all of the actors out, I wouldn't really want to see the Joker making a reappearance.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

No I don't really think there can be a new joker after Ledger, unless they really reinvent the character.
Jack's was good...for what they had the Joker being in that version.

I second Javier.

Javier is too muscular, the Joker is supposed to be this weedy thin guy. The only one I can think of is Sam Rockwell, just becuase he can pull of the weirdo thing.

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity......

Go find a film called Gangster No. 1, watch it and then you'll understand why Paul Bettany is a solid choice.

I can certainly see your point concerning Javiers build, however actors have gained/lost wieght for roles before,Robert DeNiro as Al Capone in The Untouchables (gak) jumps to mind.
Sam Rockwell might be an interesting choice,he pulled off crazy/evil fairly well in The Green Mile, even if it was "hillbilly" crazy/evil.

Wasn't he in a Knights tale with Heath Ledger?...that would be a bit odd wouldn't it?
Still,I'll look for the film you mentioned.

Yeah he was. I didn't know that. The lucky bastard is married to Jennifer Connelly as well (Yes, I am envious).

He was also the albino in DaVinci Code (Silas, I think his name was.)

Hmmm... not too sure about that.

If the concepts were redone, and the parts all recast, I could see a pretty good joker coming out of Eddie. Not too crazy, just out for a laugh, but always with at least a drop or two of blood mixed in. Failing this of course, Jack... come back.

C'mon guys, Jack would need to take about 30+ years off (Not to mention 30+ pounds) to play the Joker again. And I wasn't enamored with his last attempt.

What about Jake Busey? Sure, he hasn't done much noteworthy in a while but his dad is batgak crazy and he played a good crazy killer in The Frighteners.

I think Jim Carrey is perfect for the role of joker. I think it would really fit his personality and his character.

Crispin Glover can do creepy. He's certainly weedy enough, too.

Johnny Depp could do it.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Johnny Depp is far too overused these days for "quirky" characters. plus I don't think he can pull off scary very well, just odd.

Actually I think they should stop there. No more Batman movies. Quit while they are at the pinnacle. Anything else is going to be a letdown.

The main problem with that thinking is thats never going to happen did you see how much money they made from dark knight they will keep making them until there profit margin drops to low also can you see what kind of a pull a new actor playing the joker would be? everyone would go and see that film
