I am just curious to what people think of this set. I myself am about to get my second set with a friend, and I like the space marines, but I am not a big fan of the orks, I don't think the models fit with the orks wild personalities.

Please tell me what you think.

Thanks

I think its a great value, just trade off the half you don't and you have a 1000 pt army.

Correction, you get about 500 with each. But yes, it's a great set.

Yea he meant if you trade your half, with another half its about 1000 points.

I loved it. Its a great way to either start the game, or build up your ranks. Templates, rule book AND minis for $60 bucks? Hell yea sign me up.

I don't understand why GW do it... I mean, it's almost as if they're selling crap at what it used to cost

On a more serious note, lovely set... I just wish they'd sell those "simple" models seperately.

The models that come with it have less pieces and are easier to put together.

One thing that I keep hearing around is that people are buying more then one of these sets(Including myself)and I was wondering how common it was for people to do this?

2 500ish point armies, each with different units, a rulebook, templates, and a bunch of dice...

For orks and space marine players... it's a unrivaled boon.

If only they had a set for other armies... like Tau vs Imperial guard... with a full plastic broadside and plastic ogyrns or something... that would be pretty sweet imho.

If people want more than one set of the models it has, they have a reason to buy another copy. I only bought one because that gave me a dread, as well as topped off my terminator units, and I traded the orks for further goodness. Have no particular desire a second set of models, I have no inclination to buy another one. For people just starting SM or Orks though, multiple boxes could be a heck of a deal.

Its a good value, sure, but I have to admit, I don't like it that much. I'm big on posing my models, and if you get more then one set, you're going to have a lot of similarly posed models. I also wish the heads were separate pieces....

I got 2 of them just because they're cheap. Due to the exchange rate, I paying RM250 for the AoBR set. A 500ml bottle of coke here is RM2.70 which is about USD 0.78 cents. It's an expensive hobby, but it's oh so addictive.

If one more person complains of ugly models I'll cry.

The deffkoptas are darn sexy and worth more than the entire set, so the way i look at it your getting about 1000 points of models free after that, who cares what they look like.

Besides, 8 of my black reach boys are carrying deffguns now, and my old marines have become some damn gorgeous death guard.

Good cheap conversion fodder in my eyes.

If they were going to make more sets. I think IG(cadians) vs. Chaos, Tau vs. Tyranid, and Eldar vs. Necrons would be pretty good matching sets.

Hmmm.. those would be nice starting army kits... but what would you put in them?

500pts of tau is pretty much hardly anything.. especialy if your after varity...

For fighting nids... i think the following would be a alright set

Tau commander with Flamer, plasma rifle and stim injector(For all rounded fighting of nids)
2 Sqauds of 8 fire warriors (Troop choices)
2 Crisis suits armed with missile pods and flamers (Your heavy hitting unit)
3 Stealth suits armed with burst cannons and Targetting arrays. (For all rounded firepower against nids)

A 493pt starter army, complete and ready to play out of the box.

Anyone want to post a nid starter army? or any other starter army?

The Guard one would be hard, though. You'd have to put a lot in to make 500pts, unless you make an ultra-simple click-together Leman Russ...

How about

Close to 500, and thought it isn't totally codex-approved, for 500 pts, it's good for learning about IG.

To ArbitorIan: Hey, ya beat me to it! What are the chances?

I like it, but thought the Battle for Macragge set was a lot better for the following reasons:

1. Came with cool terrain
2. Had introductory scenarios that helped teach the rules (it is an introductory set...)
3. GW posted more scenarios which further expanded use of the rules. Players needed to get more figures to use these scenarios, but that helped them build their armies any way.
4. I like Tyranids as bugs in other sci fi games...

From an 'intoductory game' or 'starter set' I think the scenarios and terrain made BFM a better set.

Most FLGS I've been in do sell the "simple" models seperatly,at least as far as the troops choices go,SM,CSM,Orkz and IG all have boxed "push models" that are reasonably inexpensive,I used 3 of the "push model" boxes to cobble together some burnaboyz.
OT,I think AoBR is a great deal, for SM players it seems like pure win just factoring in the Dread and terminators.
Concerning the "static" poses of the Ork minis, the extra bitz from boyz & Nobz boxes,an exacto knife and a little GS solves that quickly, plus when painted up the "static" orkz look just fine in rank and file troops.
