you know for the cost it is amazing, but the best work for the marine side is done with chaos conversions. to plague marines you just need a chaos mutations sprue and some 'nid bits to throw off the bad posing and you've suddenly moved from a great deal on marines to almost free death guard (compared to the GW price gouging)

Good starter set.
But dreadnought needs more weapon options

Its hard to be awesome, when your playing with little plastic men.
Welcome to Fantasy 40k

If you think your important, in the great scheme of things. Do the water test.

Put your hands in a bucket of warm water,
then pull them out fast. The size of the hole shows how important you are.
I think we should roll some dice, to see if we should roll some dice, To decide if all this dice rolling is good for the game.

I think it is a great set, it introduced me to the game.

From the AOBR set I have now created 10 Space Marines, 1 Dreadnought (obvioiusly), 1 Elite Inquisitor, 3 Daemonhosts, 1 TDA Librarian, 15 Inquisitorial Stormtroopers, 1 Acolyte, 1 HB Gun Servitor, 1 Close Combat Servitor.

Yeah, I run a very radical inquisitor.

Yeah its a great value set. Planning on getting it and sell the ork models to a friend of mine who's just got back into the hobby. Then convert some of the space marines to look more iron hands in style.

I love it. The cheapiness and "full" content of it (full rulebook, lots of minis) finally made me decide to start collecting 40K

Sure, the models are not the best, but they are still pretty good for snap-fits IMO. Great way to start the hobby without getting too scared.

On the other side, the AOBR paint set rather sucks

Why in the world would gw do that? It makes to much sense.

Silly monkey's...

i bought it and converted most the orcs into lesser nurgle demons, i turned the hq into a chaos lord, the dread into a chaos dread and used some extra bits to make the terminators all nurgly. Saved me like $130

Yes I love the set. Other wise I would never have Termies, a Dreadnaught or Captian. Also wouldn't have started Orks so yeah I love it.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Great set. The mini-rule book and bunch of models is a great deal.

I bought it as my starting army. the models generally find they're way into each of my major engagements.

I agree though, the Dread needs more weapon options, even if it was just an Assault Cannon.

It's a great set, and along with Battle For Skull Pass (hate to get off topic, but hey, they're both starter sets) it's one of the best deals GW has put out (Skull Pass beats it just slightly though). I feel some pity for the LotR Mines of Moria set, as it contains so few miniatures compared to the other two. Sure, they put in "scenery" but Skull Pass has that too, and not too mention there is very little variety in either the scenery or the miniatures.
...Anyways, on topic, it's as everyone has already said, it's a good deal.
