so what was the big deal about this level?
am i just a man of questionable morals or did anyone else enjoy walking through the airport blowing away the civies? my only complaint is 1) that the airport wasnt bigger and 2) that i couldn't move at normal speed, i had to stick to the script.

now the mission where you're chasing the bad guy through the slums of Rio with a million militiamen all over the place is a crap mission. i had so much trouble with that mission i wanted to chuck it out the window. i think i had such a hard time with it because a)i didnt realize until the end that you didnt really have to do anything except progress up the city and b) it seemed like every checkpoint saved me where someone was standing just waiting for me to respawn. I'd respawn and get almost instantly killed. id have to die 3 or 4 times just to plan an escape route.

i get a kick out of the wolverines mission. its funny listening to the commander tell you that there are bad guys over by burger town or target over at the taco hut...lol.

one bad side effect of this game is the increasing urge its causing for me to break my guard back out...

Nothing wrong with "No Russian". It's just that it's a videogame and there're some righteous crusader type folk that think violence in movies is fine but videogames are evil because kids are exposed to them (Because, you know, parents shouldn't be aware of the games their kids play or anything...)

The favela was a really crappy mission. I think the only one I hated more was the Boneyard.

My all-time favorite has to be "Of their own Accord", although the excessive use of Predator missiles in Wolverines! was a total blast

I'm guessing it would've kicked up more of a shitstorm if it took place on say, O'Hare airfield.

I found most of the game crap, except for the ones where you fought on American soil, those were the best in the bunch. Quite in contrast with the previous game, where I really enjoyed the SAS missions more than the Joe Schmoe missions.

This. +1

The missions I did enjoy outside of the US invasion were too short. And the ones that were long were crappy. I would've loved a few more Afghanistan missions before going into "No Russian", but I guess we get what we get. I will admit though, the battle for DC did get me totally stoked for MW3 and the (Hopefully) follow up invasion of Russia and siege of Moscow.

Not -entirely- true. You can see where they tried and succeeded, but you can also see where they just said "Meh. Space filler. We just have to make it somehow relevant to the story."

Maybe 3 will get it right? *Crosses fingers*

I'm hoping that three will be more like one; not a massive shitfest of explosions and screaming that two is.

And for feths sake, please stop knocking the protagonist to the ground that he requires someone to help him to his feet, it's getting really old.

The Explosion & Screaming spam worked for some levels - the battle for the Wash. Monument and the siege of the White House come to mind. Though hearing "Ramirez! Watch for this!" "Ramirez! Do that!" "Ramirez! I can't shut the Feth up!" was pretty damn annoying.

But the fainting spam... No kidding.
Spoiler:
The end of Estate pissed me off. Roach survives a near-direct blast from a mortar and then just gets shot in the gut? seriously? And I could've sworn I saw more members of TF141 than just Ghost make it out of the woods. Where were they?

And in Afghanistan...
Spoiler:
your Humvee getting blown up by a direct hit from an RPG and you just magically survive?

The mysterious invincibility of the characters is certainly a little ho-hum. It's still tolerable, but old cutscene is certainly old.

Gathering the Informations.

Plenty of soldiers have survived armored HMMVs taking RPG rounds, from what I've read. It's all about the deflection, and that RPG round that hit yours sure wasn't a direct hit.

As for Roach's bit...the other TF141 guys got taken out during the actual estate siege. Ghost mentions that Suchandsuch is down early on, then the next one gets taken out as the DRM finishes.

Well it smacked straight into the cab... Doesn't get too much more direct than that, unless the RPG would've hit Allen in the face. In which case, that would've been an even quicker demise than the 2 levels he plays a part in.

I could've sworn one more made it out of the woods. And anyway, Ghost was just too badass to be tossed away like that. I mean, yea the whole "What!? Nooooo!" factor was some good win, but really. They should've waited for MW3 to kill off Ghost.

Weird.

I just did three different playthroughs of that particular checkpoint, and the RPG impacted in 3 different places.

First--ground in front of the HMMV.
Second--Front left tire.
Third--right in front of the minigun.

Maybe shooting the guy alters where he hits the HMMV? Because everytime it happened like that, I had riddled him full of bullets.

I've only played through twice. First time it hit the Driver's side Door, second time it smacked into the Windshield. Either or, if you're the gunner on one of those things, you're -not- walking away from that. Yet somehow...

I can see the headline now.....

"Wargaming desensitises viewers to the horrors of videogames!!!1"

I find the level pretty farcical, 4 armed men just come up into an airport from some random lift....where does this lift go?
Are all airports in Russia so lax with their security?

Most annoying thing is not being able to run. I'll wander off from Makarov investigating the place only to find my buddies are miles away and I have to try to catch up with them at snail pace.

The major problem with the 'no russian' mission is it's one huge plothole. What else is the point of the playable character going undercover if not to stop a terrorist event like that, rather than contribute to it. Seriously Jack Bauer would have had a bullet through each of their heads long before they caused world war three, it makes the first few levels worse knowing your playing as a complete idiot. "hmm i'm an undercover agent standing by four terrorists about to kill a ton of helpless civilians, what do I do? Oh I know, I'll help them out and kill a ton of helpless civilians myself."

My favourite missions were the stealth missions with Soap and Price.

The whole game was a plot hole. Russia invades the US capital by surprise? Four spec ops. dudes are able to launch a nuclear missile? A high ranking US military official has a fortress of doom? The least of my worries were that the initial PC exhibited average competence.

Sure, I feel so stupid now for posting my thoughts on that mission, what with all the other plotholes in the game, especially in a thread entitled "MW2: - No russian."

Lesson learned, don't press the link titled "show this post" again.

Do you feel a need to implicitly associate past exchanges with current ones regardless of the presence of cause?

Nothing I said was overtly hostile, or insulting. I disagreed with you in a marginal sense; using you post as a means of developing a discussion, as opposed to making a series of oblique statements.

This is a text-based forum, you would be wise to remember that the 'tone' of a post is very likely the result of your own mood, rather than that of the poster.

It's easy to get offended on forums, but I didn't think dogma was being hostile for what its worth.

The only prob with this thread is the amount of spoilers for the game. Maybe someone should edit the thread title to account for this as it's unfair to someone who may be halfway thorugh the game etc.

Well tis a shame we shall never solve that problem isn't it, since everytime I read "Ignored Post by dogma: Show This Post" I seem to feel an overwhelming mood of depression and dis-interest. You can continue your antagonistic crusade on everyone else.

ah, good point G, i hadnt thought of that as i'm not put off by spoilers. apparently im very forgiving in this area. i can have someone tell me the entire storyline for a movie just before i watch it and it wont bother me... maybe i hope it will change when i watch it...

It's you, the player character, compelled and ordered to kill innocent civilians in an Airport.

1. People don't like seeing innocents die.
2. The 'Airport' setting still holds a lot of hurt/fright for many people.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.
