Hey guys,

I felt interested to see how people would respond to this question in a poll.

I'm also kind of curious, do you think GW would ever make popular Guard armies plastic? How do they gauge what is popular? Do they take risks? Have they done so in the past (released plastic kits) and failed? How expensive is a new plastic line and how often does it happen?

Well that was quite the flurry of questions... anyway, feel free to discuss

Personally I'd go for Vostroyans, I used to be a DKoK admirer but I think the Vostroyans are far more vibrant in colour and the modelling potential with a plastic kit would make some nice variations!

Tallarn, they look very unique. I'd go with Valhallans but I've already got snow-camo Cadians.

Imo i think they'd all look awesome, but Valhallans and Steel Legion would look especially sweet!

I voted other because I would love to be able to purchase plastic Praetorians. Though, to be fair, a plastic kit that could make Praetorians or Mordian Iron Guard would make sense since both armies share the same uniform and would require only head swaps.

But yeah, I loves me some Praetorians and not having to track down OOP figures would make life a lot easier.

I voted for Valhallans, because they were my first Imperial Guard army back in second edition. I had so many mortars that the mortar phase practically dominated the game. I actually took out an entire Space Marine tactical squad in one turn of mortar shooting once. It was the best luck I ever had.

Elysians. Noms.

Quite frankly:
I wish GW would start moving more towards the way they've described the Imperial Guard. Cadia and its supporting systems account for a HUGE amount of the equipment floating around the Guard.
So why aren't we seeing cold weather variants of Cadian equipment? Lengthy coats, full faced helms for blocking out the cold, stuff like that.

Or for that matter--where's the Airborne variants of Cadian equipment? The Orbital Drop versions?

This could be a goldmine, especially considering you'd use the standard chestplate--and go from there.

Elysians also. The guard have the low tech (catachans) and middle of the road (cadians) in plastic, they need to have one of the crazy advanced / elite regiments in plastic as well. Elysians are the best fit for this.

Nonsense. The Battle Company box is perfect for filling out your ranks of aspect warriors with a large contingent from the Screaming Baldies shrine.

Also: The poll is kind of biased. Half of the "popular" armies you put in there could be made using a single well-planned box.

I just want plastic Mordians. Had a bitching Mordian army back in 2nd Edition, would liek to have a viable one in 5th but the increase in price, army size and reduced availability makes it unrealistic to pursue in my current budget zone.

I think the best thing to do in this area is bring out one ten man box of GREATCOAT guard and sell separate accessory sprues for Valhallans, Steel Legion ect. (like they do for SM with BT, DA and SW)

Can I say that I also want a plastic boxed set of Commisars. They are a unit upgrade in the new codex instead of 0-5 like priests and eginseers, so I don't want to have to hunt for blister packs of them. I am using Empire flagellants for priests, for feth's sake!

Tainth First and Only or another light infantry unit that does not look like rambo or look like arabs. With male and female troops of course.

I second that!!! they tried it a long time ago as a white dwarf archive thing (ive got the WD somewhere here...) and they had viable rules for gaunt and his command squad as well as rules for snipers and troops which they had a plastic box set for (that contaned both male and female models ) all they have to do is find the moulds! Argh I can't believe I left out Praetorians!

I find it odd that a lot of you would like the Steel Legion... they just look like poor imitators of the DKoK to me

@Kanluwen

Elaborate please? I'd love to be able find out about this magical way to get Mordians/Praetorians/Valhallans out of the plastic kits

Put simply?

1)
Mordians, Praetorians, and Vostroyans all share a very common uniform basis. Frocked coat, buttoned up. Only thing is you'd need variant heads/rifles and a bit of armor to apply to the Vostroyan kits to represent the fact that they're more Heavy Infantry than Praetorians/Mordians are.
2)
Death Korps and Valhallans would work out well as their own kit, longcoats as the basis, armored chestplates showing through. Variant heads and more armor bits to apply to the Death Korps to again reflect the Heavy Infantry status than poorly equipped conscripts.
3)
Tallarn and Tanith. The bodies and kit would be VERY similar to start with. Light fatigue pants, puttees for ensuring the pants don't snag or let material seep into the boots(sand for Tallarn and various debris for the Tanith). Light body armored chest(simple flak vest, ala the old metal Cadian models), a lighter helmet like the Elysian pattern helmets or the current ones you see on Special Forces operators today. Heck, you could even throw the Catachans into this mix if you do it correctly.
4)
Steel Legion.
This is the hardest one to come up with an alternate army to combine it with, simply put. The uniforms are fairly close to the Cadian ones--barring the lengthier boots and helmets, and the comparative lack of body armor. Other than that, they look very close to Mordian/Praetorian/Vostroyans.

My dream for ages was to get 50 kneeling and aiming praetorians and 50 standing and aiming. Now that we can combine squads and have the first rank fire second rank fire order...mmmmm 2 blobs of 50 praetorians, no special weapons or heavy weapons all lasguns. I would need to learn how to play the bugle
