Skip it. Typical 2000s era specticle without a soul. I didn't even vaguely care what happened to any character. Not even enough to hate them and hope they died, I literally did not care.

Didn't help that he gives away his ending 5 minutes in.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

Shame, really. It looked like it had some real promise. I didn't see it myself (Don't really plan to until it hits the dollar theater close by) but I do recall my friend getting really excited over it.

How was it in terms of keeping to the books? I heard it was supposed to be closer to Through the Looking Glass than the original book.

About to eat your Avatar...

After being bombarded with Johnny Depp's glittery face, not only do I have no interest at all in this flick, but I have an urge to instinctively punch that image in the face.

Get your shiny, glittery, annoying ass face, OFF OF MY INTERNET DEPP!!!.

Saw the imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, might start a thread about it. Not an entirely bad flick really.

*I* think they're talented.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I'm disappointed in you Cheese.

Although, there are SOME instances where they really are talented (Sleepy Hollow, for example, would have been a terrible fething movie without Depp in it and you can't forget Ed Wood).

It's just the fact that it's aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalways the same general thing with those two.

Johnny Depp is a decent actor. He's hammy like John Travola and charming like well...Sean Connery. Mind you, he doesn't bring the gravity that Connery has, but at least we can all say that he's better than Keanu Reeves in terms of raw acting ability.

*Sigh*- Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop is going to be played by Keanu Reeves in the live action movie.

Depp has been sorely overused over the last few years, but I'll take a tired and routine performance from him over Keanu any day of the millenium.

I dunno. Keanu is actually good...provided the material isn't slowed.

Keanu's kinda like Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson in that regard. Look at the films they've done.

Compare Vin Diesel in "The Pacifer" or "The Chronicles of Riddick", or hell even his bit in "Saving Private Ryan" to his role in "Pitch Black" or "XXX". Compare Johnson's stint in "The Scorpion King" to "The Game Plan" or "Walking Tall".

Some roles and scripts they're given are just so one dimensional that it'd be hard to play them well.

Back on topic, Wonderland has been getting 3/5 scores in the London press, but a colleague of mine saw it at the weekend and loved it.

He is a motion graphics video designer and really enjoyed the 3D effects. The Cheshire Cat is awesome, apparently.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Go look up the movie Zardoz. Classic example of what you are talking about.

On-topic: No one questions the depth they put into this movie in terms of graphics. So I agree killkrazy.

I have not seen Alice yet, but it is probably a flawed masterpiece along the lines of Watchmen. Whereas Watchmen is true to the source material with little deviation (some call it straightjacketing the movie's ability to perform beyond the source material; I disagree), this is one of those typical let's base it loosely off of the source material and make it into something different (i.e. one of many clones of what-ifs involving Alice returning to Wonderland). Of course, I know Wonderland was followed by Through the Looking Glass in Lewis Carroll's novels, but this movie was intended as a separate what-if from Carroll's vision in many ways.

It's not a flawed masterpeice it's just empty. Devoid of a single character or situation I cared about, it passed before my eyes making no mark on my memory or soul.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I like a lot of the TB and JD movies in the past... but they seem to all be bluring into one at the moment. Visually, character-wise, and plot-event-wise.

They could all pretty much be the same film with different character names and slight variations in the story.

Think they both need to go and work on something different for a while, stretch their abilities somewhat in a different role.

I really enjoyed it. Didn't watch it in 3D because it was sold out, but saw it in 2D. It was totally different to the book, but interesting and with some good stuff. Not a great movie, it was fairly obvious what was happening, but it had some decent acting and some very amusing parts.

And I for one thought Depp's Hatter was brilliant. The accents were terrible, but the acting was good.

The only remake I am looking forward too is clash of the titans as I think with todays modern tech it will really bring the movie to a new life so to speak. It seems like Tim Burton just makes movies now to toss his wife into some kind of roll.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Hi, I'm Tim Burton check out my wacky friend, Johnny Depp, and super creepy wife, Helena Bonham Carter that I put in all my movies. All my movies look like I wrote the script while I was tripping on acid, because they lack any defining features besides being weird. Also I like to put musical numbers into my movies for no apparent reason, besides: "lol random".

What'd you expect from Disney? My daughter wants to see it, mostly because she's morphing into an obnoxious Hot Topic-er.

I like some of Tim Burton's work (Edward Scissorhands, Big Fish & Batman 1989), but the trailers for this one just leave me cold.

Hardball, The Lakehouse, Constantine beg to differ with your opinion

As does the Bill and Ted movies, but those were good old fashioned tripping balls on acid humor.

*sigh* Yes, the fact that the last decent thing Burton did was "Mars Attacks"(telling, isn't it?) makes me sad and slightly pissed that he's doing the Dark Shadows movie(as well as a Frankenweenie remake).

Why? Because it had the chance to be a good movie, but we all know it'll be another of Burton's Depp/Carter spank fests.

I don't recall liking any Burton movie. They seem to have been made weird just to be weird, not because of any artistic reason. It's like how all the 'rebellious teenagers' of any generation pretty much all dress and act alike. You're not being rebellious if you do the same thing as all the other rebellious people - you're being a sheep in the herd.

It was OK. It wasn't worth the $50.00 tickets + popcorn/drinks.

The kids seemed a bit bored with it.

Don't slag off Helena Bonham-Carter. I was at school with her and lit some of her plays.

Where in hell does a cinema ticket cost $50? Even the BFI London Imax is only £15. ($22.50.)
