So my brother and I picked up the rulebook and 1 box set each for Malifaux, a skirmish based game that uses no dice but instead uses a deck of cards for it's game mechanic. We played a couple of games and got hooked so I got another boxed set (at ~$30 it's really cheap). All told the rulebook, 2 box sets and a deck of Malifaux cards cost about $120 which is an easy investment to make. I'm also starting a Plog for my Malifaux stuff to show off as well as various other skirmish style games as I seem to have an itch to play them as my club's escalation league comes to a close in the next month. My crews are a Sonnia Criid Box set and a Ramos Box set (Witch hunters and clockwork/steampunk engineers respectively) I've also started work on magnetized display boards for easy transport so pics of that to come.

Models are looking cool; could we get a better pic of the steamborg? His flesh looks a bit off when compared to your other models. How big is he when compared to an orc or space marine? Those claws look yummy

Cool, another Malifaux enthusiast on Dakka.

I like the way the colour scheme carries over each model in each crew, yet still retains each individual's uniqueness.

The claws are really good and the are with the exception of one pincer single pieces so they are easy to convert onto something. Also the torso for the Steamborg is fantastic and I will be considering getting another just for the bits.



@ Mister Feral: Who is the other Malifaux enthusiast? I'd love to see someone else's work too from a Dakkaite. And thanks for noticing the color scheme. I wanted to keep common themes with the two crews (red, browns and silver for Sonnia and blue, gold and black for the Archanists). I have lots of time tomorrow so i will surely get more work done!

I happened to get in some painting for an O&G commission for a client. Check them out.













I'm working on more Malifaux tonight and hopefully I'll be able to get the blue done for the Archanists and but some more crap down for the scrap bases they have.

Man, I feel Malifaux calling to me. The models are pretty cheap and super detailed. Plus I'd only need a few so it wouldn't really dig into my 40k/Fantasy painting backlog...

@Ozymandias that's what I thought also. The models certainly catch the eye but are super quick to paint up. The game is easy to pick up too after about 2 games. Since Crews can be from 4-12 models they easily fit in those extra spaces in an army carrying case.

I didn't get much Malifaux work done but I did file a crap-ton of 40k building sets for a commission for a local store that is opening up.


I also put 5 minutes into some tau tank traps I had thought up while collecting empty GW wash pots. The cork is a bit thick I think but it's cheap and quick terrain and plus it's green (you're welcome mother nature). I'll probably base them and paint them up on the weekend.


And here is my Malifaux work of the night. I simply added some scrap to the magnetized movement tray for my Ramos crew. After finding a model train store in the area I discovered the wonderful world of extruded PVC. And since I had a bunch left over from the beginnings of my as yet unfinished Cyber Slaanesh Daemons Dakka Blog. If your interested in checking it out you can find it Here. One thing I didn't account for is the Archaninds ability to breakdown and reform into swarms and single models so I'll have to make a second matching movement tray for when I get Rusty Alice, the Brass Archanid totem, other Archanid swarms and for some scrap counters that Ramos Generates. Alas no Blue paint tonight.


After checking my tracking# from Chaos Orc's it seems USPS has processed my order here in Albany which means delivery is expected tomorrow morning. Unfortunately for me I have a review session for my 2nd midterm tomorrow morning so I can't eagerly wait for USPS in my pajamas drinking my coffee. Either way when I get back I should have another Archanid swarm to build and a unit of Abgezhertsoldat for my AE-WWII German Detachment. AE-WWII is another skirmish game I have been wanting to start but with no success as no one plays in the area. Perhaps I'll post up a few pics of what I have done with these guys so far in a few days.

@ Krusty Thanks for the compliment! I was happy with how they came out (though they aren't finished so stay tuned!) The beams you can get at any model train store but if you can't find any in the ROC let me know and I can pick some up for you when I go in the coming weeks. Millennium and Boldos are great places so I'd love to stop back in my old stomping grounds for old time sake! my bro is making it to both simcon tourneys so say hi if your able to make it.

Well no post yesterday but I do have a lot of good news. Firstly my order from Chaos Orc came in check out the loot! It's there arachnid swarm and some German Faction Abgezhertsoldats. This was the first time I bought anything from Chaos Orc, it arrived about as expected but was in a mailing envelope so not much protection. shipping was cheap as were the models so I don't really have much to complain. bottom line I'll probably buy the off model here and there from them.


Also on the commission side of my life I built the Buildings and I have plenty of extra bits left over so I'm going to throw them a couple extra bits they weren't expecting. Still have to base some streetlights and add a bit more detail to the buildings before the are fully complete.


I also got in the mail my Podhammer dice! I'd like to note they were placed in that way not rolled. I want to see if the Podhammer curse is true and will make it's first test at a team tourney this Saturday.


On the Malifaux side of things I started work on my electrical creation which is a unit Ramos can summon and basically suicide bomb into enemies. It's just PVC right now but greenstuff is going to be used to complete the effect.



In personal news I have a midterm I have to study for and a paper I have to write for tomorrow so It's going to be a late night which means probably no updates until Friday night. Either way stay tuned!

Cool stuff I've got to say Malifaux plays nice and actually paints fairly easy. I've used a bunch of Wyrd stuff in my Beastmen and will consider more. One of the best things I had pointed out to me was as its based on reach the basing dosn't matter in the slightest.

Yeah Zoraida and her crew as well lilith and the nephillims are awesome for daemons/beastmen armies.

This week I worked on a bit of Mordheim stuff for my possessed warband for The Shambling Hordes' Mordheim campaign starting up in May:









I want to go for this hooded cult look with red and browns as the main colors. The darksouls with the two handed weapons are going to have black hoods with skulls on the faces while the rest have red ones. The headless models are obviously WIP but the last guy is pretty much standard. I'm making my own cobblestone bases for this warband and am available for custom basing by request! So if you want to see something for basing at a cheap price just send me a Pm or an email! More stuff tomorrow!

It's been a really crazy week for me. Luckily though it was for wargaming!

First bit of good news was that I was hired by a newly opening game store in Albany New York called Grimfoe Games! I'll be their in house painter as well as general lackey. That means I can actually pay my bills (what a concept). The guys who are running this store have been involved in wargaming for decades between the two of them and are truly committed to an excellent club for all types of gamers. The grand opening is may 1st where they are holding a 40k tourney followed on the 8th by a Fantasy Tourney and various other events to kick off them opening their doors. So if you in the Captial District Area drop by Grimfoe Games.

I've been plowing through Cities of Death terrain and have completed 5 buildings and working on a 6th. I have a bunch more bits left over so I'm going to make at least 1 more building and put all the streetlights on bases. but right now here is the WIP one I have going.



and for my Malifaux Board I started work on this mineshaft/stone hut for scenery.



On the AE-WWII front I put together the Abghebs for priming and finished the paint for my Wehrmacht infantry squad. I also figured i'd post up a few pics of some models I finished for the rest of my German Detachment.





For the May Mordheim Campaign The Shambling Horde is starting I got my Darksouls and Brethren built and put onto my custom bases. The Darksouls will be the guys with the two handed axes.



On a side note I have started making custom bases for anyone interested for cheap prices. Here are some WIP pics I am doing. The cobblestone is for my Mordheim warband.

I got a bit of work done for tonight's update. Luckily I finally finished the Building terrain and got those F%&#ing drop pods done. The WORST models I have ever tried to put together.

I finished the bases for my Cyber Slaanesh daemonettes and got around to taking some pics of them. Check the girlies out!


On the Malifaux front I completed my Whitchling Stalkers! I really like these models (in fact they are what drew me to Sonnia Criids Crew in the first place) and I think the "G" in the front of the base adds a nice accent to them. I'm not sure of the harsh banding around the bases, part of me likes them and part of me doesn't what do you guys think?


I also built some counters for Malifaux, The counters are a WIP treasure counter for the Treasure hunt scenario and 3 scrap counters as well as 3 Archanids for Ramos's crew when the Archanid swarms split up.



Tomorrow is game night for The Shambling Horde and I'm getting some Beastmen bits for my Mordheim warband. As mentioned before I'm playing a Possessed Cult so the list includes the magister, 2 darksouls, a possessed, 2 beastmen and 5 bretheren. Here is a WIP shot of what I have down so far.

Looking great! Personally, I like branding or using lettering of the bases, I've written their names on mine and I think it works quite well to make the model stand out.

I'm really loving those bases as well.... I need to make some scrap/treasure counters as well methinks, anyhow, good luck with the Valkyries =D Sounds like a hell of a job!

@ Great Unclean one: Friended. Yeah, the Valkyries have been giving me a bit of a headache (magnetizing the heavy bolter sponsons is crazy finicky).

So tonight I have also put my nose to the grind stone and got some more work done. First is the initial test model for my custom basing service.
I really like how the metal came out and will be keeping the metal recipe. Comments and criticisms are greatly appreciated.

I also got all of my built Mordheim Cult of the Possessed warband members painted. I really like how they came out as well and I think this warband made the concept to reality transition relatively intact.




And tonight I have been cranking out Vostroyans, as well as Cadians and the Valkyire builds. Here is an old picture of where they are right now and when i get a big legion of the IG up I'll take a group pic. Until then I hope this wets your appetites.

@ The Good Green: Well here they are! I painted up the entire warband (as it stands now)I have 2 more flagellant bodies and bits to make 2 more darksouls/brethren/mutants/ Whatever i need to for the upcoming Mordheim Campaign. So as the need comes I'll make more.

@GUO: Yeah, that was one of those last minute touches that just seemed to come together. I was happy with the end result and I think I might go and make a unit of these hooded evil dudes just for the fun of it sometime where he will be the unit standard.

So not much of my work has gotten done although I did remagnetize my Malifaux display base so they stayed better. My boss at Grimfoe Games gave me some Spinespur models he had lying around so my next project will involve chainsaws and psychopaths! Also on top of that some Egypt terrain and a Forgeworld Empire Mortar Emplacement. When I get around to them after I am done with my current Commission work with the IG I'll post up some pics. Also here is what i finished in the last week via midnight oil.

So it's been a hell of a few weeks, sorry for the long update. I got alot of stuff done so this is going to be a massive post.

One of the local guys donated a forgeworld mortal emplacement as well as a bunch of other cool terrain lying in his basement so I'm going to paint that up for the store as well. To wrap things up I recently came into possession of 2 blisters for Battlefleet Gothic Eldar Nightshade Destroyers which means in a year I'll probably have up an Eldar fleet to go with my Ork Fleet which I've been working on lately. Maybe Salvage and I can go at it in the deepest GrimDarkest space of MiniGrimDark. Also in a trade I got rid of some Privateer Press Ceterati for a Great Unclean One, I'll probably have him done in a year for my website or for trade for a good offer.

My local club also group signed up for the Crossroads GT. 15 of us are rocking in and we hope to flood the event!

Either way Cheers to all and hopefully another update soon enough so everything doesn't pile up.

@ Murray: Thanks for the post!, I was actually going for a predator look with the dreads and when I finish him completely they are going to have a purple/pink tint to them (he is going to be slaanesh marked).

In the spirit of keeping it up, here is a rather brief post, Finals have taken over my life as has 2 jobs now so time is short, but I've managed to finish 4 Cromwell's for a Flames of War escalation league coming up.






I'm also running a painting clinic every Thursday and Sunday at Grimfoe Games! (www.Grimfoegames.com) This week will be a mini repair clinic so if your in the area bring in your broken mini's and I can show you how to fix them up!
