Is there any clue. Honestly i really hope for a national bill to help education. I also hope for tougher immigration laws.
What do you guys believe is coming after the healthcare bill?

Pat that askala, O-H-I hate this stupid state

Well there was talk of immigration reform and citizenship reform all in one fell swoop. I dont think they will make it tougher though it will most likely be a hell of alot easier.

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, its just a freight train coming your way!

Well, I'd wait to ask this question until they actually do something about healthcare. So far we've got a poorly thought out insurance bill.

Obama will force his values on everyone in the US. Like being black. We'll all have to walk around in baggy pants, wearing gold chains and talking how Marx was the shizzle fo rizzle.

I'm going to say gays in the military. He'll probably make it mandatory to be gay in the military. Then we'll have the most powerful army in the world, it'll be like the Sacred Band of Thebes. Which should also fix the troop shortages in Afganistan, it's like two birds with one stone.

Immigration then enviro. VAT tax will come after the election upon recommendation of the Obama appointed committee. You heard it here first!

Meanwhile back at the Hall of Justice, US bond sales are getting a tepid response...

IMO, what's going to come is a lot of smaller legislation by the Dems to portray that they're getting things done ahead of the midterm election. I imagine they'll focus on stuff that they think will be popular with the middle class like jobs stimulus, etc.

The Dems are going to lose seats in November no matter what because that's what always happens during midterms. But with healthcare out of the way, I think their chances of putting up a fight for those seats just increased. The GOP also has a loud, very angry section of its base to contend with. The Dems were looking like a "SELL" a couple weeks ago, but they're at least a "HOLD" now, IMO.

It DOES strike me that they could have just put the new insurance regulations in place without making taking out health insurance mandatory...

Well now that we have mandatory healthcare for allthe next logical step is mandatory green everything, followed by mandatory food rationing, followed by mandatory military service, followed by mandatory restriction of free speech, and then mandatory government regulation of your life.

Hmm...too Republican in outlook?

Okay, let's try Democrats.

We conquer the world with hugs. We hug the terrorists and they apologize for hating us and accepting weapons and training we gave them to kill our enemies via a Cold War proxy war.

We hug the Chinese, who promise to stop overpolluting and overpopulating, immediately democratize and give us huge discounts on non-child, non-sweatshop labour.

We hug the Russians, who allow us to build massive military deployments and missiles in the event Russia never goes renegade. Oh yes, and the missiles have smiley faces on them.

We hug the conservatives, who then become ultra liberals and do everything liberally ten times better than the current liberals, who become the new conservatives.

I would include more hugs for others, but those are the best ones I could think of that liberals would want to hug. They already hug the Earth for hemp's sake.

I think they are misguidedly trying to save money in the long term by trying to lower the numbers of people who default on huge medical bills they can't afford.

Obama is mixed, first of all.

Being black has nothing to do with values.

Republicans run on Christian and Family values, isn't it fair Democrats get to push Civic values?

"to walk around in baggy pants, wearing gold chains and talking how Marx was the shizzle fo rizzle"

Yeah hre in America we are free to dress how we want, and wear what ever metals we feel like, We can also have any political views we want (Carl Marx). We can also talk however we damn well please.

Remember the big fight about regulations, Stifling the market?

Remember Keep government out of the market?

Well there you go.

If insurance wasn't mandatory the Insurance companies would go under as people would just wait till they get sick to sign up.

It's a small price to pay knowing that nobody will ever die from lack of Insurance again.

I would assume after health care the US should focus on their slowed amount of debt or their economy. Just saying, you know as an outside observer.

The debt can't be delt with until the economy picks up. Next up is stopping the second wave of home forclosings. And renewing a nuke treaty with Russia. While working on the Jobs bill. We should have done something about the debt last decade when things were good.

True enough. If it makes you feel any better Canada worked on its debt for the past 10 years and then the conservatives got in and sided with Bush in his last term and dug us a nice hole again, countering the last 10 years of debt payback we had done.

So you might of just ended up in the same spot as you are know just with an even bigger army/Space/Health care program.

Gun control. O already said he hasn't forgotten about addressing gun control.

Not sure if it will be THE next step in line (I see Immigration first) but if not next it will follow Immigration.

The Dems just love trying to feth with our rights as citizens.

--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

It's no longer possible for insurance companies to deny coverage to someone with a pre-existing condition. This means that people can wait until they're diagnosed with something serious and then get treatment, which is a big problem when you need healthy people buying insurance to pay for the sick ones. So, unfortunately, it means requiring people to get insurance.

How else can it be done?

I think the next big domestic issue is how to handle the economy once the first round of stimulus money runs out. A lot of the economic boost we've seen in the past year has been due to a quick infusion of cash for quick jobs (or the retention of jobs that would have otherwise been lost).

Obama was smart enough to not spend all the money at once...so we'll see how he'll spend the remainder of it when the economy threatens to double dip.

I wouldn't be surprised if the main focus was jobs.

Sadly, he has frozen government spending in some places that I would like to see get an increase, like the NIH and NSF budgets. Oh well...one thing at a time.

Nice one Sebby. The thread asks what our opinions are about what's next. He has mentioned reinstating the Clinton AWB. Nice way to attack me though.

I had no idea you were a UC flunkie. Now that I know my point doubly stands.

I didn't lose rights gorgon. Had the government wanted to tap my phones they would have only heard the occasion confirmation of work, planned dates with my female friends and the occasional phone sex talk.

If the government wants to listen to me talk about whats for dinner, fine by me so long as they leave my 2nd Amendment rights alone (which Dubya did).

Just because you don't give a flying **** about your Fourth Amendment rights doesn't mean you didn't lose them, Fateweaver.

...Warrantless wiretapping of US citizens is a clear violation of US law. In fact, the reason that the law (FISA) is there is because the government was badly abusing their powers in the not-so-distant past:

Okay you got me.

This healthcare bill was passed illegally as well.

I'm not saying Dubya had a squeaky clean Presidency but the Liberals have no room to cut Bush down for the illegal wiretap when Clinton lied under oath and now B.O illegally passed a HC Bill.

Wow. And you own guns, too? Scary.

By the way - it's freaking hilarious that you're only now calling reconciliation "illegal." It's been used PLENTY in the last 20 years - most often by the Republicans:
