Crazed Spirit of the Defiler

Yesterday I played my first actual game at my FLGS. It was an 8 on 8 player megabattle with objectives, Imperium forces (with some Eldar allies) vs. xenos (consisting of chaos, tyranids, and orks) and I am extremely happy to declare victory in the name of the xenos. both sides were well balanced, but a few misfortunes on imperial account seriously truned the battle in our favor, such as:
-The eldar player, possessed the strongest forces and was the most experienced player on the imperial side, however his troops were tied up for most of the game clearing out hordes and hordes of tyranids. and although he was eventually victorious the game ended before he could reach any core objectives.
-massive amounts of space marines and IG were lost to huge ork assaults
- My night lord havocs decimated an entire squad of SM Vanguard vets
-we were able to clear out some striking scorpions and hold the main objective for most of the game
-(this was probably my favorite) the emperors champion and his whole body guard deep strike mishap and are misplaced into a lava pit, where they are instakilled.
so share some stories!

Impierium vs xeno, 10,000 points
Impierium, 3 baneblades(stormlord, BB, banehammer), guard tank company, SM first company
Xeno, 3k Tau, 3k chaos(all DPs ) 1k necrons.
necron lord outflanks and takes control of baneblade, blasting guard trenches, but damage is minimal.
Deciever(cleverly disguised as nightbringer) blows up the baneblade, taking out 5 LRBTs, 3 basilisks, 53 guardsmen, 2 terminators, necron lord, wounding C'tan and a rhino

Consistently over too many games to count: vox casters. Having that re-roll has been repeatedly game-saving, such as making the difference between wrecking that raider and nuking the terminators inside, or just stunning/immobilizing it and getting mauled next turn.
More specifically, in a game last night my platoon commander killed Eldrad.

Are you sure he wasnt some kind of tactical genius?
Mine was smurf vs Nids, sternguard and cassius drop pod in first turn and obliterate the only squad of stealers on the table and their brooldlord, the T6 cassius and squad survived the counter charge and kill of the last gaunt in his turn cassius and the 4 remaining vets then hellfired an carnifex for a total of 16 stealers, 16 hormagaunts and a Carnifex. though next game they got battlecannoned into oblivion

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...

My friends and I were playing an objective battle, on my team there were SM and Nids(me) against SM and CSM.
We were drawing and the only way we could win was by killing Abaddon. As a last attempt of winning the game, I charged sixteen termagants at the Despoiler. He was only on one wound so I gave it a try. Twelve of my 32 attacks wounded and all he had to was fail one, and luckily he did, we had one the game on the final turn.
Pretty good for Termagants.

One of mine happened way back, when a GK player came into the FLGS (There had been, thus far, only one regular who actually used them, and one who showed up occasionally). It was right before 5e Nids came out, so one player decided to challenge them to a 2-on-1 match of 2000 points to give his list one last game. The game itself was pretty even for the most part. Then turn 4 rolled around, and the Nids player finally got his Genestealers on the board, having rolled 3 and 2 for the previous two turns.
The game just about ended there. The Genestealers rushed from the right side of the board and swarmed over one GK player's GKTs. In two rounds of combat, they were dead, and then the Genestealers tied up three squads of PAGKs in one move. With them out of the way, the Nid player was able to buy another turn for his Carnifexes to get into assualt and chomp on everybody.

Some embarassing to wound rolls/ armor saves later, my opponent was down an entire Fire Warrior squad, as well as an objective.

Black Legion vs IG - 3k points
Turn 1 - My 6 rhinos are crossing a river and tank traps. Faced about 5 LR's and associative guard infantry units. Took it to the face.
Turn 2 - 4 rhinos roll 1's for difficult terrain, thus getting stuck and can't move at all :( Lost majority of the remainder of my army.
Turn 3 - Roll 3 6's for "fixing rhinos." Moving closer into position. Took more IG shooting to the face and laughed.
Turn 4 - Legion assaults LR squardron and other tanks, utterly destroying all pieces of armor and killing all surrounding IG. Other rhino rolls a 6 and starts its advance.
Turn 5 - Legion assaults remaining IG units and smears the blood of scions of the False Emperor. IG player concedes.
The IG player kept acting like a little girl about how chaos rhinos shouldn't be able to repair yet thought it would've been fair for him to bring a couple of Baneblades.

Commissar Yarrick! He's like that annoying punch clown that keeps bouncing back up, no matter how hard you hit him.
10 Sisters of battle occupy a building, with an allied LR right beside. My vendetta comes cruising in to kill the LR, with yarrick tucked inside. Unfortunately the Vendetta whiffs, only immobilizing the LR. The LR retaliates by swatting the offending vehicle out of the air with a few lascannons of its own, leaving Yarrick stranded in front of the occupied building.
For the next two turns, sisters dump bolter shells on him, killing him twice. Twice he stands back up. On the third turn, he staggers into assault and kills 4 of them without sustaining a wound, and sweeping advances the remainder of the squad.
Objective cleared!

Haha! nice avatar indeed, and yes I used havocs in last weeks megabattle. I am pretty new to the game and decided to try them out, and they performed pretty well. I had 10 altogether, 4 missile launchers, 3 heavy bolters, 1 lascannon, and 2 aspiring champs with assorted gear. Their shining moment came when they blew apart a decked out SM vanguard vet squad, other than that they pretty much hid behind my allies ork horde and took pot shots at enemy armor with some success. I rolled very very well against the vets, all 4 of my frag missiles landed on target, the lascannon blew one away and they heavy bolters mopped up the rest. They took out a pretty expensive squad so I was happy overall, and the other player was quite demoralized

Recent game, 2000pts per player, 2v2.
Necrons and Tyranids up against Black Templars and Chaos Space Marines.
The battle was a very back and forth game, Typhus was practically invincible and could drop a 6 for his terminator invul seemingly at will. Some necron tomb spiders just wouldn't go down. My hive guard and tyrranofexes shot land speeders out of the air every turn and my two tervigons spat out 11 and 15 gaunts on turn 5 to make a last minute assault screen to keep the Khorne Lord from assault moving close enough to contest the only captured objective. Neither doubled out, I rolled 6, 4, 5 and 6, 1, 4. They would have been safe turn 6 as well.
But what turned the tide of battle? On turn 3 the necron player I was allied with wasn't too keen on working together. He saw it as he fights chaos I deal with templars. I was the new guy to their games so they weren't used to me. I asked him at the beginning of the game to shoot the BT vindicator because from where it was I had ZERO nid anti tank weapons that could see it, but his monolith and heavy destroyers could see it and it had no cover. On turn three after a vindicator shell narrowly missing some 20 gaunts on a lucky scatter for my team he shot it the next round, 6, 6, 6, the vindicator explodes. If that gun were still alive he would have taken out a lot of gaunts on turn 3-4 and likely made me blow my tervigon spawns early which could have spelled disaster because the previous units of gaunts got tied up with some dreadnaughts. If that vinidicator killed those gaunts the dreads woulds have been free to tie up the tervigon gaunt spawns and the lord could have taken on the tervigon for the tie.
666 the vehicle explodes, always a good time. After he made that shot for me I decided to back him up with typhus who was killing warriors all over the place. I used paroxysm on typhus every turn thereafter and eventually a tomb spider put him down on turn 5. It was a great game.

Single Lascannon shot from my Dread at a Baneblade. Rolled a pen, then a structure point was lost, rolled again, another point was lost, then the last point was lost, Appoc explosion, the blast blew up up 4 Chimeras, 5 squads of 10 IG, 3 Leman Russes, another wounded Baneblade, about 20 Orks from an Ork Mob, and a few Nobs, and a Mek Stompa.
Little dude was promoted to Venerable after that shot.

Yea it took me a while to work this one out. Its cleverly hidden in the rule book to make it hard to find. I think its in the mission special rules section, rather than with scout in the USRs section where it should be.

Page 94 of the AoBR rulebook, if you're interested. I completely understand missing it; the outflanking bit is in a completely different section and the USR doesn't reference outflanking at all.

Sihamoni takes great pride in the league he helped create, as was conveyed in his recent advertising campaign for the CMFL that stated his midgets will "... take on anything; man, beast, or machine."

Small 500 point Annihilation game Orks vs Tau.
At the top of turn 5 our forces have bin reduced to his Tau commander with 2 shield drones, my 20 ork boyz, and my single Ard boy with big shoota paired with my Warboss. On my turn I break off my warboss from the Ard boy to join the other mob nearby, becuase I couldnt catch up to his commander my plan was to keep my last mob alive to have 1 kill point over his army to win. So i send my single Ard boy to go chase the commander down. On his turn, he sends his commander at my boy and assaults him expecting and easy kill point. The commander swings, and misses then the shield drones attempt to headbutt my boy, dealing 2 wounds, I save on both and then my boy swings: killing a shield drone, he makes his moral check and fails, his commnder runs for the hills as my big shoota boy chases after him as he runs off the table.
Silly commander CC is for Orks

2400 point 2 vs 2
Very worried about opponents big hitters-LR with TH/SS termies and Kantor, Swarmlord, Trygon and 10 Sternguard in DP-Heres what happened to them:
TH/SS Termies-Unload T1 on an Immobilised Ironclad Dreadnought, lose 1 and the 12 attacks back only shake it, they roll 11 for leadership (stubborn 10), run 4 inches and 8 off the board next turn
Sternguard: Come in, unload 12 wounds on my TWC, the powerfist dies on triple ones, the rest slaugters them in combat for no return
Swarmlord: Loses 2 wounds to shooting, my Ven Dread charges him to stop him rampaging and takes his last 3 wounds over 5 rounds of combat only getting immobilized
Trygon: Scatters off the board, 1 for mishap
Still drew to contesting LR at end of game.
