I was just wondering if anyone has amy good stragties for fighting the nightbringer using the new BA codex. I was thinking that the best chance would be Mephiston(sp?) bacause of his survivability but I was wanting other opinions.

This is one of the few situations where Vanilla SM do better than BA. With Librarian Null Zone and Sternguards, C'Tan will go down quickly.
With BA, there's just Snipers and Sternguard. And if Mephiston has Furious Charge, wounding with 5s with Force Weapon will make C'Tan very sad.

Meph should have no problem using Sanguine Sword, he will most likely wound on 2's.

I think Sternguard (wounding on 2+) is the best bet. Statisically you have to force 10 wounds to drop the Nightbringer.

Shoot it. I think that getting it into and to hand with normal troops will just get the normal troops dead. but those little melta pistols that the BA has should do the trick. and lets not forget what a Baal Pred to the face can do when one focuses fire.

Mepheston kills everything, outside of Ghaz on the turn he waaghs.
He is a heat seeking character killing missile.
If you're that worried take both the Sanguinor and Meph. The Sang will be working on phase out while mepheston is waxing the floor with the C'tan.

Mephiston + Sanguine Sword + Force Weapon is by far the easiest counter BA have.
S10 + 6 attacks means at least one unsaved wound. Force weapon = boom, no Nightbringer.

be careful, remember when you say BOOM No nightbringer its really BOOOM.
Mephiston should really have 2 or more wounds when he pops the C'tan because when the he dies Mephiston will likely take a wound with no saves allowed.

I can't really agree with that. Keep in mind that ICs with a retinue cannot be targeted by his gaze - Mephiston assaulting into a DE HQ choice will never end well for him.

Indeed; I was just reigning in over-enthusiasm about Mephiston. Eldar, Dark Eldar, and any other codex that lets you take a retinue can give Mephiston a black eye. Just slowing the roll.

A Baal pred might be one of the worse options for killing a star god. After hitting it needs 6's to wound with all of its shots and then there is still the 4++ save to deal with.
Meph charging probably has a decent shot at killing the night bringer, The deceiver might just decide not to play ball.
Honorguard with jump packs and 4 plasmaguns might be another decent option to combine with another unit. Its expensive though.
Cheers,

It states in the explanation that no armor saves are allowed but does not say "no saves allowed" or "no armor or invul saves".
You'd think though that it would ignore invul saves too, but I guess that would be a bit too much. Heck, my friend already complains a lot that he ignores invul saves (same with the pariahs, though I almost never take them).

In this case an armour save is all it needs to avoid because Mephiston in all his glory has no invul.

Meph should be able to kill it in one maybe 2 turns, i think 9 out of 10 times, he should total the nightbringer.

It all hinges on whether or not he gets 2 powers off successfully; Sanguine Sword and Force Weapon.
He should successfully cast 2 powers 84% of the time. Wings/Fleet even without Wings make him far more mobile than slow poke Nightbringer, so he should "always" get the charge, as well.
Odds of him doing at least 1 wound are pretty darn solid; 4 hits even without Preferred Enemy, yielding more than 3 wounds at S10, and more than one unsaved wound after 4++.
So Meph really has to botch his rolls to not kill NB at I7 in the first assault phase.

3 out of 36 isn't 15%...
Remember you're rolling 2 dice so it's more of a graph than just 11 and 12 are fails. It's if you roll 6 and 6, or 5 and 6, or 6 and 5 that he fails. That's 3 possibilities of 36, so it's closer to 8% fail rate. This is of course ignoring double 1s results.

Meph has a good shot of insta killing anything not eternal warrior in a turn of combat, that match up really depends on how lucky the Cron player is with the invul saves.

You have to account for two powers; Sanguine Sword for S10 and Force Weapon for instant death. The pass rate on 2 psychic tests at Ld10 is 84%, or just about double the 8% fail rate for any one power.
