Sinister Chaos Marine

This is the first of my Khorne Berserker Beastmen. I plan on doing an entire squad with a variety of CC weapons. This will probably be the least converted of the bunch. If i like it enough I might do some terminators and vehicles to go along.

EDIT: To be more accurate on the blood effects. I loaded up the brush with Tamiya Clear Red (TCR), held it by the desired area (axe, chest, etc) and blew very HARD (like I was spitting without the saliva). I did this several times in different areas then added some black to the TCR and repeated. Then on the knife and axes blades I dabbed on the TCR and let it dry a bit and dabbed some more to get some texture. Then I repeated with TCR mixed with black in small patches on top of some of the larger red patches.

Constructive criticism welcome.

Looks amazing bro! Keep up the good work

My only problem is that the hooves are a little too clean, make them dirty and it will be epic!

wow this model is amazing. I love conversions what people make because they always give me ideas for mine but on the other hand they just look so amazing. And the painting is brilliant as well but you should make on the base like a little pool of blood that will look nice keep up the good work man.

Wow. That's some very nice (and Gory) stuff. I especially like that you used the beastmen legs and arms, unlike just the head which is a conversion that's far more common, but not nearly as effective.

I like it! Makes them look downright feral and dangerous. Standup conversion!

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

EDIT: yeah i just read the op and you said how you did the blood need to learn to read instead of looking at the purty pikturrs

Great conversions and paintjob though.

@Space_Potato - You are right. I'll have to hit those hoves with a devlin mug glaze. Way too clean for the rest of the fig.

@Grimm - I just couldn't see using normal CSM legs. Beastman legs just don't bend that way. If if get really ambitious I may make some beastman shaped power armor legs for one or two of them. I do plan on giving a few of them power armor arms at least on one side.

@ Everyone else. Thanks. I'll put up pics when I get the next one done.

Nurglitch - I checked out the the Possessed and I see what you mean. I think what started out as a squad or two is going to have to be an entire beastman Khorne CSM army. I'll definitely need a minotaur/deomon price or two. Anyone have any ideas for what else could be turned into something?

Very nice. I'll second the compliments about the blood effects and that the hooves could do with a bit of muddying up. Maybe a reddish brown so it looks like the dirt has been soaked in blood. I can't say the base appeals to me much as it is, it's just too clean. You don't get to that state without churning it up a little. Could do scape marks on some of them so it looks like they've been dragging their hoof back threateningly like a bull does before it charges (for one with a more 'leaning forwards' pose.

I really like that head, the bit works surprisingly well.

Second "man" of the squad it done. I still need to work on my blood effect and his shoulder pads are too big, but aside from that I'm relatively happy with it. I need to work on my photography.

As always C&C welcome.

The emblem on the shoulder pad looks very faint in this shot, but it is quite distinct in real life. I still think I'll go back and darken it a little. Maybe ad some dark gray or red/orange to the edged to give a little more pop.

I'm very happy with the fading on that leg.

There's a hair that needs to be removed.

Subscribed! this looks awesome. I do not like Khorne at all, but these models look great. A-1 converting. I did have to echo an earlier poster: The hooves need to be muddied up quite a bit with some good old brownish muck and a tad of blood mixed in. The bases could use some attention, since models of this quality should not be stuck on an average base.

Keep it up!

I'll probably hold of on a group shot for a while since right now it's just the two of them.

When you guys say muddy up the hooves what do you mean? The fist one have very bright clean looking hooves. I glazed them with Devlin Mud a couple of times and it toned them down to fit with the rest of the model. The pics are pre-glazed. The second one got the same treatment before I took the pics of it. Are you saying they are still too bright or that they need a mud caked on them like you often see on tank treads, or something else?

What do you suggest for the bases?

They look good. How did you go the blood?

I'm still experimenting with the blood since these are the only two models I've put blood on. But so far...

I used Tamiya Clear Red (TCR) and Tamiya Clear Red with a little black mixed in (TCR+B) for all the blood.

One the first model I used the blow method of loading up a brush holding it in front of the area to be spattered and blew very hard like spitting without the saliva first with TCR then with TCR+B. I then blotted it on TCR in thick blobs were I wanted build up (the blades). Let it dry a bit then blotted with a dry brush to give some texture. Then repeated that process with TCR+B over a smaller area.

I had a hard time aiming the spatter since the model and brush a so close to your mouth you can't see what you're doing. Maybe I should try a mirror.

On the second model I used the same process except after a few unsatisfactory blow attempts I used a tooth brush and thumb to spray both colors onto the model. Doesn't really give you the spatter effect, but give a nice coating of droplets.

this is really cool, I like the way the beast man legs stick out of the power armor, i would maybe make them a bit my cyber like, with unusual enhancements and other such qualities, i think it would make these creatures more connected to the warhammer 40k universe, a bionic head would be very cool!!

have you thought about any other units in the army that you would convert, a demon prince or a unit of termies would be epicly cool! i don't know what the termies would look like and how you would make the beast features come up as much as they do on these creatures which is just so cool!

Yes, I really like them and (time permitting) will make a entire army based on this unit. The ideas I have so far are a minotaur converted to a demon prince; bikers on some sort of mount chaos hounds and/or flesh hounds probably and a khorned up space marine dreadnought and tanks. I'm sure there will be other units, but those are the ones I have a good image of in my head right now. Other ideas are welcome.

I've often considered making models like this for my chaos army. I think you've done a great job and you have somehow pulled off the gratuitous 1980's horror-flick gore perfectly. Sam Raimi would be proud!

Also - not that they are great choices - you can also triple these guys as Possesed Marines or Summoed Lesser Daemons! I think they can fit multiple rolls equally well. Nice conversions. I am looking forward to seeing the Minotaur!

Look if GW can put out gak ideas like marines riding giant wolves and Blood angels all suddenly having wings and s***ing Land raiders out of the sky then i think this concept is pretty solid in comparison...

I never really considered the fluff behind them. I just thought they would look cool. But I guess now we know what happened to the Space Wolves 13th chapter. They turned to chaos, that thing that makes some of them look like wolves ran a muck... I guess that minotaur-demon prince is going to be Lehman Russ.
