'South Park' Creators Could Face Retribution for Depicting Muhammad, Website Warns
By Joshua Rhett Miller
- FOXNews.com
A radical Islamic website is warning the creators of "South Park" that they could face violent retribution for depicting the Prophet Muhammad in a bear suit during an episode broadcast on Comedy Central last week.
RevolutionMuslim.com posted a warning following the 200th episode of Trey Parker and Matt Stone's "South Park," which included a caricature of the Prophet Muhammad disguised in a bear suit.
A radical Islamic website is warning the creators of "South Park" that they could face violent retribution for depicting the Prophet Muhammad in a bear suit during an episode broadcast on Comedy Central last week.
RevolutionMuslim.com posted the warning following the 200th episode of Trey Parker and Matt Stone's "South Park," which included a caricature of the Prophet Muhammad disguised in a bear suit. The Web posting also included a graphic photo of Theo van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker who was murdered in 2004 after making a documentary on violence against Muslim women.
"We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show," the posting reads. "This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them."
Reaching by phone early Tuesday, Abu Talhah al Amrikee, the author of the post, said he wrote the entry to "raise awareness." He said the grisly photograph of van Gogh was meant to "explain the severity" of what Parker and Stone did by mocking Muhammad.
"It's not a threat, but it really is a likely outcome," al Amrikee said, referring to the possibility that Parker and Stone could be murdered for mocking Muhammad. "They're going to be basically on a list in the back of the minds of a large number of Muslims. It's just the reality."
Al Amrikee said the website is considering a protest against the "disgusting" show, which also depicted the Prophet Muhammad in an episode on July 4, 2001.
"This is not a small thing," he said. "We should do whatever we can to make sure it does not happen again."
The posting on RevolutionMuslim.com also includes audio of a sermon by Anwar al-Awlaki -- a radical U.S.-born preacher now believed to be hiding in Yemen -- who discusses assassinating individuals who defame the Prophet Muhammad. It also included a link to a 2009 story in the Huffington Post that gave details of Stone and Parker's mansion in Colorado.
A Comedy Central spokesman told FoxNews.com that the network has no comment on the posting.

Really? I mean... Really?
South Park makes fun of Jesus all the time, but do you see Christians screaming bloody murder and making death-threats? Cartman is clearly Anti-Semitic, so should we also be worried that an army of enraged Jews are going to be rolling up to Matt and Trey's studio any day now? I really don't understand why these Muslim radicals always have to jump straight into violence every time someone makes a crack at Allah or Muhammed. Why can't they just settle for sending angry letters and calling them devilspawn? Said plan seems to work for other religions. I say they need to pull the stick out of their collective arse and take it as the innocent locker-room humour that it is.

Because they have a literal rule of "may not be portrayed in any way" and seem to think their religion has might over all humans regardless of who it is.

They used to get a significant amount of press for threats and hatemail from christian sources, but that cooled over the years. More recently they got the same attention from their scientology episodes.

I think you missed the part where you said the word radicals. By definition they aren't going to react to things the old lady way.

No kidding. I find it completely comical that Islamic extremists criticize the world for not respecting their religion, and Christians for taking over their lands, when their policy on respecting other religions is "Islam is the only true religion, all others are a lie", and they refuse to realize or accept any state that is not ruled by an Islamic Theocracy. I've heard some crazy double-standard ideals before, but these extremists take the cake. I have yet to come across another group that contradicts itself even a tenth as much. I'm not even religious and groups like these still offend me by their behavior and mindset. ShumaGorath wrote:They used to get a significant amount of press for threats and hatemail from christian sources, but that cooled over the years. Unlike a lot of folks these days, I do see the difference between a Muslim and a Muslim Extremist. Doesn't justify such infantile behavior from these groups though. I would've hoped that by the time a person of faith has reached the age to legally be considered an adult, they would have developed half a brain. I find myself extremely let down by things like this, however.

Oh? I would think that any racial supremacist movement would be similarly balking to you. Violent extremism isn't the sole property of islam, and there have been plenty of christians, jews, communists, and good white folk that have done the same. Acting like radical islamists have taken it to a new extreme just shows a bit of a lack of perspective.

Of course violent extremism has existed throughout history. The Crusades, the Irish civil war, the Holocaust, Soviet persecution of the Ukranian Orthodox Church, the KKK, so on and so forth. In medieval times, when people didn't have the education they do now, when State and Religion were one and the same for most of the world, this wasn't out-of-place. Extremism was a fact of life for most of Europe and the Middle-East. That doesn't make it alright, but that's how it was. We don't live in the middle ages though. Such behavior has no place anymore. There -are- extremist groups for a wide spectrum of ideals and religions, true. But none seem as easily offended as Islamic extremists. It seems like every little joke or jab against them results in a call for blood. And there's a long list of things that'll cause that call, it would seem. One of them being an adult cartoon that really is impossible to take seriously.

You do realize that a majority of violent islamists come from regions without functioning public education and literacy rates that are similar to those seen in the medieval ages?

Sadly I do, and I consider it very unfortunate that the circumstances in which they live mean they likely won't see any other point of view aside from "Kill the Infidels!", or understand that there are better ways to resolve things. But there's also the fact that several also come from educated states, which are often the groups getting offended by things like this. The group in question is one of these.

If you're reading this thread, which I'm assuming you are, many of us are not criticizing Muslims in general. Only the extremists that give the Islamic religion a bad name. Most (Not all) folks have the mental capacity to differentiate between the two.

I can see from the quotes no time was wasted dragging Jesus and Glen Beck through the mud. How incredibly imaginative and refreshing.
How can anyone in their right mind possibly defend Islamic head sawing feths and try to compare Christians and political opinion show hosts to death threats for cartoons?
Some people are seriously self deluded.

Well yeah, me and my best friend (who is a hardcore christian) joke around all the time, he calls muhammad a terrorsit, I call Jesus gay, and we joke around, but we respect each other's beliefs. But what was the intention of the artist? From what I've heard, the artist drew those cartoons because he DID hate muslims, and he DID think muhammad was terrorist. i've nothing against jokes, but it's when the jokes aren't just jokes, but malicious, and that's when I get offended, when people are trying to insult you, because they hate you.
