Stallone should play no part in this debate. Let's pretend that movie never existed. And while we're at it, there was no Demolition Man either. And Steven Segal died as a child. In a tragic accident (having nothing to do with Buddhism or martial arts or guitars) that also took the life of baby Jean-Claude van Damme. I may think of more rules later. No promises.

Ehhhh . . . let's consider both contenders at the top of their game only. Unless anyone can make a convincing argument that some portion of either's career lows were actually awesome and unjustly overlooked heretofore.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Dammit Luna, I said no Demolition Man!

It is now 2010AD and no Dredd type law enforcer is to be seen. Unless one incudes the Police Community Support Officer.
Am yet to see a bobby with a chin of steel
Actually that is the Crimson Chin who rocks more than Dredd and Robertcop but that is OT that and the fact that he is a cartoon character within a cartoon.
Because the director of Robocop, Paul Verhoeven, viewed the film as a reimagining of the Passion, but American style. Seriously. It's why Murphy takes on a crucified stance when being shot up. It's why Robocop walks on water at the end. Seriously. Its in the director's commentary.
So the answer is Robocop. Because Robocop is American Jesus. What an awesome movie.
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.
The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
"the play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king,
This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I keep coming back to this comment. Maybe I'm misremembering but I thought these guys represented different concepts of/approaches to law enforcement. The details are fuzzy as it's been years since I read any of the Dredd comics or saw RoboCop. I was just thinking about 40k Arbitrators and thought about these two.
I do love me some Robocop but while Dredd has remained pretty true to the concept for 20-30 years Robo had a cartoon and a live action show where he wasn't allowed to shoot people.
And Robocop 3.
So yeah you got 2 good movies and that's it vs a few 1000 decent Dredd comics.
