Or it could be made-up crap, of course.
The Sun wrote:
MUM-of-three Beth Hoyle claims an Asda till worker refused to serve her because she was wearing a wristband backing injured troops.
... ...
An Asda spokeswoman said they were "shocked" by the claims but had found no evidence that the incident happened in their store.
She added: "We are big supporters of the Help for Heroes campaign and we sell the pin badges and wristband in hundreds of our stores."
Also the story is over 6 months old.

Paul Rowland, our regional operations manager, has been in contact with the customer to reassure her that a full investigation is under way.
So the customer existed then, not a fictional customer.
In the video, he states long standing customer aswell.

I will have to go with ASDA.
It looks like that ASDA management really took a good look at this, and beleive that their conclusions wasn't a whitewash. Were it true ASDA would have dismissed the employee on the spot and been seen to clean up.
We see enough Islamic hate going on, that I can beleive such sympathies exist. But stories like this dont help, and give ammo to those who beleive that 'we are of peace always'.

Asda'a press releases don't make sense.
On the one hand " It never happened, nobody saw it happen, it was all made up by right wing facists).
On the other hand " (we have been in contact with the long standing customer (that never existed).
And sent flowers.

Where's this Asda press release?
Going from the info contained in The Sun's story we have one woman making a claim, and Asda's reply that they had investigated and found no evidence.

In the video, he says customer of twenty years.
underneath theres an update, where they say it never happened.
the local paper says asda sent flowers
If this act did not happen,
why is the local paper of this store reporting that the ASDA sent an apology and as a way of trying to smooth the path sent the lady a bunch of flowers?
Or, is it now knowing how much the feeling is concerning this issue that
Asda have taken the line of it didnt happen, thus not having to defend the course of action, or non action against its staff.
The plot thickens watson

Not really.
If The Sun runs an article about how ASDA did something that would paint the company in a bad light, there's a chance some drooling moron would believe it true and start a word of mouth campaign against ASDA.
It's easier for ASDA to apologize and send flowers by way of apology, even if nothing happened and they've got proof of it, than to let the claims go unanswered.

There is a difference between The Sun, who actually have to allocate a substantial portion of their budget to deal with Libel claims out of court, and a real newspaper like The Daily Mail, who bravely inform the British public the Cancer Causer of the Week.
I mean the Times.

Even if it is/was true it is the individuals and not the company who are to blame, I can hardly see a company like Asda, who as pointed out, sell Help for Heroes wristbands and badges endorsing refusal of sale for wearing one of said items.
If it turns out that it was genuine then the till monkey will probably be fired and the supervisor reprimanded to the point where they may as well move on too.
As said tabloids are scum they will print sensationalist stories with very little evidence safe in the knowledge that the revenue from sales will vastly outwiegh any potential damages they are ordered to pay out. However according to the daily mail it all happened because Dianna died....

Sort of. It's like a cross between FOX and the National Enquirer. It's a journalistic standards are even worse than FOX, but it doesn't stick to one political view like FOX, it just prints anything that looks like a catchy headline.
In this case the headline was that people are being oppressed when they support the troops by wearing plastic bracelets. It doesn't matter that the story makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever, and relies entirely on the complaint of a single customer, people want to believe it, so the Sun will print it.
|
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
