She said: "I was given an apology, which is all I wanted, for any distress or upset caused. They also sent me a bunch of flowers.
Read the date of the article. November 6th, the finding that the incident could not be traced were on November 17th.
This follows a fair pattern of events. Story is initiated, ASDA decides to act swiftly, apologises to the customer for her distress and then makes an enquiry to ascertain the truth. No
evidence of the incident is found and it is assumed by ASDA not to be substantiated. This much is fair, at no point did they make out the women was a liar, this could be a misunderstanding
and at the very least an exagerration by the Sun.
In any event it is no suprise no evidence of discrimination was found, had it not occured none would be found, had it occured the supervisor might have blindly followed the colleagues
'right' not to serve a customer, then thought better and decided to shut up.
This is not too unlikely, when we discussed cases earlier of people refusing to serve cigarettes the reaction from the forums was 'its their right not to do so'. Sometimes such 'rights'
may be taken to an extreme, in any event if noone testifies, and only the alleged checkout staff involved and the asupervisor, if involved, would know for sure.
I have no problem with how ASDA handled this, no problem at all. Their findings were quite fair, case
unproven.
Sadly it gives opportunity for this one to get brought out:

With so many cases of
PC gone made being provable, the idea that you can blanket cast the stories as lies doesnt wash. It is unfortunate that the press exagerrates, but then so
does the
PC lobby. It took quite a show to prove here that Winterval was an exercise in
PC discrimination targeted against Christians, its still difficult to prove positive discrimination
cases, or get people to listen when they are found.
Sometimes the true shocking state of this nation is too terrible to realise so I can understand if people dont
want to listen, and choose to deny the negative side
effects of
PC dogma. Besides this case isnt an example of
PC dogma anyway, its an alleged case of 'minority discrimination', which may or may not be a connected phenomena depending on
cirumstances.

I shop at the ASDA round the corner from my flat in Bristol, it's a terrible place, seething with chavs and 'Shameless' extras. It's like Mos Eisley but gak.
I have a lot of respect for ASDA, or at least I used to until the Wal-Mart buy out. Even so Wal-Mart had enough sense to leave ASDA management and management practices in
place. ASDA is the only major supermarket to at least pretend its staff are not scum or slaves, there is a definate culture within the company to reward staff, listen to them and treat
them as close to equals as possible, enable career promotion based on ability (a bigger issue than you might suspect, and for different reasons than imagined by most).
Managers also tend to be more competent as a result, because they need the imagniation to understand the ASDA philosophy to stay in their jobs and it the philosophy is more subtle
than it looks.
I worked in an ASDA ten or so years ago, and noticed these differences, I know people who work in Tescos, Morrisons and Sainsburys, some switching to ASDA who notice the
change immediately. Its a far better working environment.

Technically, there are Wal-Marts too. Wal-Mart bought ASDA out, but ASDA trades as ASDA.

Oh, and it is The Daily Express that has the Dead Princess Fetish, not the Daily Mail.
Most if not all of our tabloids do. Diana can do no wrong, pity they didnt have that attitude to her while she was alive. They made her life hell, then deify her afterwards. I never
forgave the tabloids for that, but not out of any Diana hype, but because I let the case stand for the growing thousands of other victims of tabloid journalism.
