hello dakka.

I've decided to attempt my first tournament in over a decade. The event is in August (edit: it's been postponed to October), and I hope to have my army up and ready by the start of July, so I can get in a few games to playtest and get a feel for the list first.

I have decided to go for something a little bit different this time around, and am building an elfzilla list. The tournament is 1500 points. I have built a list already (which was discussed here).
A little bit of background: My craftworld is only a small one; floating somewhere in the galactic north, just trying to get by...
Following with the eldar/gaelic tradition, I've decided to call it "Gaelach Fuinn", which as I understand can be translated to 'moon-set' (please correct me if you know better).
The craftworld's symbol is the winged moon, representing the moon in flight (duurr). The residents believe that the eldar moons have set for the night but will rise again, and they just have to live out the long night. Colours are bone (as pretty much everything in the list is a construct), and white (for weapons, gear, etc), with hawk turquoise highlights, and green gems.

The list I have decided upon is as follows:

HQ - 415
Avatar

Seer council
Farseer (RoWit, RoWar, Fortune)
Warlock (conceal)
Warlock (destructor)
Warlock (destructor)
Warlock (enhance)

TROOPS - 792
10 Wraithguard
-Spiritseer (conceal)

10 Wraithguard
-Spiritseer (conceal)

HS -290
Wraithlord (BL, SL, Fl)

Wraithlord (BL, ShC, Sh)

1497

Now I don't know how I can potentially marry this list to the fluff, other than to say the craftworld is quite small, and at times must perform some reanimating when things get desperate. I also recognise this isn't an optimised list; most decisions have been made for modelling rather than competitive purposes. Some decisions are quite regrettable, for example the twin catapults on one of the WL. I hope this doesn't offend the Stelek-types too much.

I have just received some lovely mail from Maelstrom, so pictures soon to follow.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
ok quick update before I head off for work:

The new plastic wraithlord arrived a few days ago, and next to it is an older one which I got off ebay and have just cleaned up.

Next step: converting!

A small update (it's been slow with uni assessments as of late):

Started reconfiguring the older wraithlord's torso. I don't like the long-limbed, tiny body aesthetic involved in the older eldar models, and I wanted a little bit of consistency in size between the two WL's in my list.
For the abdomen, I originally started on a 4 pack ala the avatar, but decided the tubing I have used is a bit too thick and the whole thing looked a bit out of proportion; so I've scraped that off and started again. Without much inspiration at hand I have decided to go for something a bit like what Eva unit 1 has going on:

I've also added a little bit of weight to the legs (detail to be added). I think I will take the new plastic head and put it on the older body, and give the new plastic body an old zoanthrope head. I've clipped off the horns/spines and have done a rough gs-ing of some gems in their place (where the imperium has rivets, the eldar have gems!)

Hopefully I'll have something more to update soon...!

OK; a little bit of movement over the past week. The two 'lords are almost ready for final assembly and base coating.
Some WIP's :

You can just see the new torso...

Lucky surprise this morning: DELIVERY!

Yes, those warriors are going to be come wraithguard with a little help from some "finger bowling" skittles.

Skittles.... hmmm...

Anyway, looks good so far, lets just hope the painting is as good!!!

I do think the bodies shoulder need to be 'buffed out' a bit more, but still keeping with Eldar style.

haha! I can't guarantee anything with the painting.

Once I've gotten the torso and legs mounted on the base (ala the first 'lord), I'll look at either using the hip armor plates from the sprue as shoulder pads, or just GSing some on.

thanks for the comments!

Would you suggest to go with embolden or another destructor instead? - I haven't got the codex on hand, but would conceal stack up with a cover save from hiding behind a wall of wraithguard? - I'm a bit of a seer council noob.

Some bad news: It looks like the 'skittles' I was gonna use are no longer in stock at the shop I first saw them at. I'm gonna have to have a further poke around. If I can't find anything, has anyone got ideas for wraithguard heads?

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Hopefully I will have an update with the finalised 'lords later today. I'm back at uni for a fortnight and am mainly only working on weekends, so (despite it being assessment time) I'm gonna have a little bit more time on my hands. This project is panning out well; as much as it is a distraction from essays, the conversion process and waiting for GS or glue to dry, forces me to take a break and get back to work!

OK, I've finished the two 'lords (I may add some sparkle later). Some shots:

and the second one:

Nothing too exciting yet.
I've also created the appatures (sp?) for the warlocks, and am very excited about them; still working on the two spiritseers.
I'll probably have more pics after the weekend. It's my birthday and I'm 23 tomorrow. This combined with work and uni means I have low expectations for my modelling output over the next few days.

Interesting Plog, you might be interested that the metal Wraithlord head is actually a 3rd ed. Zoanthrope head.

D'oh! reading failure by me xD

I'm quite glad there's someone who thinks the Old Zoanthrope head looks like an eldar wraith head too, people at my LGS think i'm crazy for saying that

To cool to pass by, and, like I said before, lets just hope the painting is up to par!

Then they should read nid fluff better. Zoanthropes were created from eldar DNA, biovores from ork DNA, tyrant guard from marine DNA etc, hence the resemblance.

Awesome looking 'Lords, btw, great poses! Any chance for a side on shot of the 2nd?

HI everyone! thanks for the comments;
more shots coming (with paint), unfortunately I rolled a double 1 on the painting mishaps table, and had to perform a makeshift re-pinning of the hips and feet.

stay tuned!

Ok, slow progress I know. Give me a week and we will be back in business.
Just so you know I haven't given in, here is a WIP of one of the lords. Base colours and first wash before highlights and detail (just to give you an idea of the colour scheme).

Hopefully I will get these two done in the next two days, then it'll be on to the seer council.

Interesting Wraithblade, its probably the best use of that knife I have ever seen!

The posing on your wraithlords are fantastic, they just seem like really large soldiers. Keep up the good work and the great theme of the (almost) necromancer eldar!

Very interesting stuff. Love the work on the wraithlord. Will be anxious to see what comes in the future!

The warlocks are made from old Dire Avenger Heads; and a mixture of WH zombie limbs, trimmed down torsos, legs, and some old plastic guardian legs. The wraithblades are made from WH zombie scythe blades, and trimmed down spear arms.

The Spiritseers are basically old plastic guardians with DA heads, GS cloaks, and some plastic-card 'wraith fins'; I haven't decided on how I will differ their wraithblades yet.

The farseer is still a bit WIP at the moment.

I was a bit iffy about the thighs on the metal wraithlord at first, they look very thin and plain compared to the rest. But I see it pulls together nicely once it has paint on it.

slow movement; but the grunt-work is done on the seer council, now it's just the arms, gems, fur cloaks, and clean-up left to GS (1 maybe 2 more sessions).

My guess is "photo-log".

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the Necron-Wraithguard conversions. I've been trying to think of some way to do plastic W-guard for YEARS, and I don't know why I never thought of the Necrons as a source for that. :\

I like the conversions - reminds me of some of my stuff! Never thought of using the old Zoey head for a wraithlord though, that's total win. Love the color-scheme, btw. Let's see some more models with paint on them! I made my own seer council using high elf, dark elf, and guardian bits with a bit of greenstuff.
