Im writing my fluff for my Spec Ops army... Tell me what you think.

The Terra Spec Ops was formed when a Traitor company was found amidst one of the cadian forces protecting Terra. It took troopers over 9 hours to breach into the company's HQ and it took another 5 hours to put them to rest. While the troops were trying to reach the traitors, the traitors had captured and murdered 65 men. After that tragic day, the emperor spoke to the men in charge of taking out the traitors and told them to form a special ops unit in his name. A month later, the Terra Spec Ops was formed, but now, they have spread to the entire galaxy.

The 1337th company come from Versktonik, an post apocalyptic wasteland where the men are trained tough. Versktonik is only good for one thing: Oil. The Spec Ops armor Corps's entire fuel reserve comes from Versktonik. The 1337 were founded when a cultist leagon tried to invade the planet for its special oil. After 2 months of siege, the Spec Ops finally arrived at a town called Merstonik. They found a run down, war torn town. They asked the locals what happened, and they said nothing happened. The local militia from 10 towns fought along side with the Spec Ops with such grace and finesse, that they were asked to form a legion of their own. The 1337 now relies completely on man-power, for that they belive that a few precisely aimed shots of lead and las can do much worse than a single cannon.

Each Solider in the company is trained with only 5 shots a day, to learn about ammo conservation. They also are expected to live longer than any guardsmen in the Imperial Guard. In battle, they fight with the utmost grace, because each man is given Space marine level training, and taught ballet, to teach the men about grace and finesse in combat. They are given the most durable but light armor, and to get promoted, they have to have unscaved armor for a certain amount of battles.

Reading this....I see a few obvious problems.
1. How can the Emperor speak to them? I mean, it has happened before...but I doubt for anything as small as purging a traitor company, or the deaths of 65 men. The Guard regularly send THOUSANDS of men to their deaths on a daily basis. The Emperor himself consumes the souls of a thousand psykers each day to keep Himself alive. The deaths of 65 men would be nothing.

2. The fluff about Versktonik is good...but I almost think it would be Promethium instead of oil, as I get the sense that most Imperial liquid fuel is Promethium. Relying on man power alone....that's alright. No problems their. I like the fluff about the ammo conversation and stuff. Although, I somehow doubt ANY Guardsman could reach the training level of an Astartes. Mainly because....a Guardsman is a human. An Astartes can sleep for 4 hours a night, and spend the other 20 hours in combat training. A Guardsman simply couldn't pull off that level of training. Not to mention, Astartes are immortal and train this way for years, decades or even centuries! It's just not possible imho for a Guardsman to meet that level of training.

Kk ill change the oil to Promethium, and i will change the training thing to commando level, you know, karskin or somethin like that...and lets say that the 65 men were important.....can you think of anything of importance that would make the emperor pissed?

Perhaps they were psykers to be offered to the Emperor's golden throne, and the Traitors were attempting to starve the god Emperor by capturing and killing them.

Deff Rider: Even if they were really powerful psykers, I seriously doubt that'd draw a lot of attention. The sheer scale of the Imperium makes it so that killing as few as 65 won't draw too much attention. Unless you kill all the High Lords of Terra, the Heads of the Navigator Houses, and maybe a few big and important military commanders. (Like, Creed, Calgar or Macharias level important) would draw ANY kind of attention..... Even then, I'm not sure that would be enough to draw the attention of the Emperor. He's on the Golden Throne for a reason, and that reason is that He is literally hanging a few cells away from complete death. As far as I know, the Emperor 'communicates' with His subjects through subtle dreams, and the Emperor's Tarot, and almost never 'talks' to a person. The only time I can recall the Emperor has 'talked' to a person was at the end of the Age of Apotasy, and that was to end the threat of destroying the entire Imperium, not revenge for the deaths of a few important people.....

If you want my opinion on the Emperor issue....don't have the Emperor Himself make the call. Have maybe a High Lord of Terra....possibly the Eclessiarch if you want to keep the 'Word of the Emperor' angle ask for the formation of the unit. That'd make a lot more sense fluff wise....
Also, good call on the commando level training, given what we've seen of Kasrkin and Stormtroopers, I'm guessing most people would be scared shitless of a whole company of them!

@OP: Forget what ChrissWWII said about the sleep depervation thing, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Marine_Corps_Recruit_Training#The_Crucible so as you can see you're fluff may acctually be less then impressive. My issue with your fluff is the five shots a day, how can you improve your marksmanship ablility by only shooting five rounds a day? Even when I screw around at the range I personally go through about a hundred rounds in a few hours, I've known competative shooters to go through thousands of shots a week.

You are probably expecting some one to give you crap over the ballet thing, but I know that it is a dicipline like anything else. I just want to say that unless it holds some personal meaning to you there are fighting styles that require more training and endurance then ballet does, the chief among them being Folk Style and Greco Roman Wrestling.

at the same time though, i believe the vietcong used very little ammo for their practice due to the lack of it, and so had to make each shot count. i'm sure there could be a way to make 5 shots a day mean something, if they had to make every shot, and were punished if they failed to do so.

i like the fluff, what people have said here is really just details taht i also agree need to be fixed up. the emperor shouldnt be the one talking to them, but rather a high lord of terra, or a priest, or maybe even the custodian lord?

and i would like to see how the models will look to reflect the fluff.

good work!

Agreed, some form of martial arts or something would probably be better than ballet; athletes use ballet to be graceful, not to kill.

Perhaps some of the 65 men were heads of Noble Families? Or the heads of Navis Nobilitae (Navigator) clans. Or minor lords of Terra?

Sounds like your troopers use hard-rounds, not las-weapons?

Also, Spec Ops of Terra is a very modern name, maybe high-gothic/grim-dark it up a bit?

@ComputerGeek. That's really not the same y'know....the Citadel is a 3 day course, and of course a standard human can go for a few days with very little sleep. But could any human, even a US Marine handle going with four hours of sleep EVERY DAY for their entire career? No. That's why you can't just throw it out. It's not like I'm saying there can never be a day without very little sleep....just that an unmodified human can't handle Astartes level training. And the minor sleep is just the least stressing part of Astartes training.

And yeah....about the ballet thing, it is a good thing to have training in grace....but i have to agree with others. a better form of training would be some kind of martial art that combines grace with combat ability.

I put the ballet thing in their because i want my Spec Ops to actually be GRACEFUL. Ive seen alot of fluff that sounds like this "Grrz! we will bash your skulls in with a stick! GRR!" and im sick of that stuff, so i want my men to actually have finesse when fighting. I wanted my army's name to be modern, because....well....cuz i said so.
Yeah my troops use hard rounds, and ill change the 65 men to minor lords of Terra.

Taekwondo, Tai Chi Chuan...

Many modern special forces employ iaidoka, jujutsu, krav maga; much of the focus on martial arts is swift diffusion of the conflict using as little energy as possible, not brutality.

Also, several types of martial arts "war dances" are used, including, Buza, haka, gymnopaidiai, maasai, and dannsa biodag.

Use wikipedia for any or more of these and I'm sure you will find one you like.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martial_arts

Also, maybe "Terran" special ops??

Yeah, just 1337 is a cool name, but perhaps their a top secret regiment who's name is only known by the most high ranking officials in the Imperium, and there are several rumors about them, and they've been nicknamed something like:

Shadow company?
Blood company?
Task Force [insert some cool made up word/ alphabeta]?
1337th Tearr (annagram of "terra")?
Versktonic Stormtroopers?

@ OP: I got it, you want something that takes finesse and will set your boys apart? Parkour\Free Running. We did some of this (not all of it) while training for wresteling in High School. It takes skill and endurance and if you pull it off everyone watching will drop their jaw on the floor. Man just remembering how I could fly through the air like that makes me want to quit everything and train back up to that level.

In one of the paragraphs you describe a traitor cult attacking your home planet for its "special oil". Either explain why the oil is special (maybe it is high quality straight out of the ground, no refining needed) or leave out the generic adjective.

Very Interesting Fluff.

My only gripe is the idea that they have to reserve ammo. I think this would be ok for solid shot weapons, but Las-weapons can be recharged very easily by merely putting in sun light, or throwing it in a fire. Therefore, they wouldn't really have a need to use just 5 shots a day. Maybe you could take this part out, or change it to say that they use specialist Lasguns that use special ammo packs that can't be recharged so easily.

I think they're using a lot more solid-shot weapons by the sound of it, which could potentially be very difficult to obtain, hence the conservation.
