Does anybody else do this? I'm gluing pennies under all my Eldar models for some added weight. And is it ok for Tournament play if I do this?

That is a widely accepted practice. It is completely fine. Very few opponents want your models falling over.

I prefer nickles. Sure, it's 5x more expensive, but it's also heavier and a Perfect fit. Though it's also why I hate the new bases that don't have a slot cut in them, but still have the slot support on the underside.

Ive had trouble getting mine to stick. I've used hot glue and superglue. The hot glue seems to work a bit better, but either way I'm having to redo it every five sessions or so.

Superglue should work fine.

Make sure it's fresh (maybe try a gel superglue, more shock resistant) and give the coins a wash to get any grease off them. If you've got caustic soda, acetone, etc dip them in it to get them really clean.

also one inch washers work perfectly if you want a smoother, even surface.

I have to ask... why use coins when you can drive to the home improvement store and purchase a bag of several hundred washers for only a few bucks? If you're going to throw money away, at least allow it to recirculate back into the economy.

Technically (in the US), gluing pennies/nickles to your miniatures is illegal, as it is destroying legal tender, it also serves to drive up inflation as you are removing currency from circulation.

I mean, if you MUST use coins, why not use Euro/GBP? At least you'd be driving up inflation for some OTHER country, and if enough people do it, maybe the exchange rate will become more favorable so when I order stuff from Forgeworld or other overseas manufacturers I'll get a better deal

It is illegal here too. Maybe we should swap bags of coins? Maybe if I glue $ cents and you glue € cents we are legal xDD

Whilst not as quick as glueing a washer or coin, I normally just fill the bottom of the base with plasticine. Pack it in tight, level off with the edge of the base, light coat of superglue to help keep it in place & hey presto, plastic models that stand up on all terrains

I've used washers and coins, and the nickel works the best. I've also found that using wood glue to fill up the entire underside of the base makes it stick best.

For removing the slot under the base, use straight-across nail clippers.

Well, I roll with pennies as that generally what I have at hand. I could pick up some washers, but as the whole concept of weighting the base is new to me, I just used whatever I had on hand.

Nickles are the best - they add a ton of weight that makes the models feel more durable or something hah.

I used to stick in pennies (British pennies fit nicely).

This doesn't work on slottabases so nowadays I paint PVA adhesive into the base and fill it with assorted lead shot ballast. When it's dry I finish the base with a smear of Chemical Metal (styrene polymer). which seals it nicely.

Nickels here all the way. Like Nurglitch I use a big glob of wood glue and they stick fine.

Also, it's not illegal, you aren't destroying the coin. You can always pop the coin off of the base and it would still be legal tender.

Pennies are considerably cheaper than washers.

No coins are harmed in the process of merely gluing them to something, ergo, non-destructive, ergo not illegal. Decirculating coinage isn't illegal, or somebody's going to be giving the coin collectors hell.

I own roughly 1,000 minis. If all of them were pennied, then that'd be about $10.00 worth of weight. That's a very small change jar sitting on someone's counter.

That said, I'm now thinking I should go ahead and get some tin ships and cut pennies for extra weight in the slottabases...

My only issue with pennies is that they don't glue flat and lay flat on the terrain. I also find washers to be slightly heavier. For my demons many of which are top heavy, this is a big deal.

By the way, clearly some people don't know what inflation is. It's when a government prints more money, driving down the value of an individal item. Destroying currency lowers inflation.

You can cut coins in half for slotta bases. Has nobody had one of those Cutco sales pitches where they cut the penny in half?

I use nickels on mine, but it's a "When I think of it" project, so only some of the squads have been done.

I've used washers before, but I think I figured out they were actually costing me more than the coins. Yes, they're a bit better fit, but I have nickels laying around everywhere and washers are a bit of a premium.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Magnets can attract the washers. So if you use the GW modular movement trays, the washer-based units won't fall out when you move them.
