Hey all, I want to share a project I'm currently working on. It's already well underway, I hope that's ok. I originally started by painting unites into a 400 point army and from there one I started to work my way up to a full 1500 point army that's about 1000 points painted at the moment. When that's done I plane to expand it further to allow for options in army selections. As I said I've already started the project so I'll open up with the units and vehicles already done. After that I'll discuss how I'll proceed.

First of the base for my 400 point army.

Defender Guardians (Painted up two weapons for selection possibilities)

Dire Avengers (Six of them are in my 400 point force, but I have a squad of 10, including an Exarch seen below)

War Walkers

Group photo for my 400 point Force

During painting my 400 point force I painted a Falcon for a local painting competition, were I came in seccond. (shown with and without DAVU)

Next up was one of the crazier things I've ever done, I painted two Wave Serpents in conjunction. I don't recommend ever batch painting anything that big!

Next thing was to paint something that would fit into those awesome serpents, I started of by finishing my Dire Avenger squad and it's Exarch

Then I painted Fire Dragons to stick into my Falcon

And finally I converted and Painted Storm Guardians for my other Wave Serpent.

Well this is as it stands, I've only got 4 models to paint for my 1500 point force. Farseer, Avatar, Warlock (for my storm Guardians) and a Wraithlord.

I've got a couple of things on my paint desk as is, Half painted Farseer, half painted Avatar and I'm in the process of converting my Wraithlord. Any ideas on what you guy would like to see next ?

C&C most welcome

Cheers
SigZo

Thanx for all the great comments guys.

@ Young_Logan: When you point it out I have to agree with you, what is the right way to go though ? 25mm seams to small, I wouldn't fit any of the basing material on it would I ? 40mm maybe or a flying base with a short pole (platform appearing to hoovering at knee height?)

Thanx for the suggestion, I'll definitely look into it.

Cheers

OK, lets have a small update, I finished converting my Wraithlord, and here are a couple of wip pictures of it. It was inspired by an old ranger model I own, and will be a part of my force in the future.

Here we go, the Ranger

I started of by putting together the upper body of the model along with the "head", I then glued the brightlance onto the upper part/head. With that being the position of the gun I would later have to adjust the arms so that they would fit.

Next up was the handjob, with my trusty pliers and knife I modeled them so that they would fit nicely to both the arm-sockets and the gun, previously glued to the upper body.

Here I have attached the arms and hands to the upper body and to the gun it self.

Next were the legs, they came a bit of a problem for me since unlike humans, wraithlords have different length of upper and lower legs. Therefore I could not have it kneel on one knee without the model being awkward. I decided that I would force the knee as close to the ground as possible without it being awkward and then raise up the base to meet the knee.

Nearly done, some greenstuff applied and the model tilted on the base, I've still got some work to do to have the base meet the knee. I think that I'll paint it before I figure out the rest, I figure that I might have the extra height of the base covered in snow like the bases on my army are. Also I plan to paint the thing with the upper part not glued onto the lower one. So the pictures are only with the upper part placed on the lower part, when finished and glued, the gun will point more upwards.

Painting it will have to wait a bit though, I've decided that next up is finishing my avatar as well as putting my weapon platform on bases.

C&C Welcome

I'm also close to finishing my other HQ, the Farseer, with it about 95% painted. I've also started work on putting my weapon platforms on bases. Hope to have something new for you tomorrow at the latest. Until then please enjoy the Avatar

I'm not usually keen on the eldars, but yours are really nice!!!

I love the Wraithlord conversion & pose, it's daunting!!
Same for the Storm Guardians, your idea was neatly executed...
And the bone colour scheme is very efficient!!!

I agree that it's not very constructive, but... I guess I cannot think of anything that would make them better!!!

Moving on to my second HQ. I finished my Farseer and now I'm only two models short of my fully painted 1500 point force. As you can see my none existent freehand paining comes into play with abysmal result. It looks fairly good and almost like some runes from a bit distance though.

The ruins of the Palace of Thorns

I love the Farseer. The red/orange works really well with the bone colouring and the blue and green makes him stand out as something different to the rest of the army. The blue sword for the Warlock suggests a coherent theme for this running through the army?

The Aspect Warriors look great. I never like it when people paint their Aspect Warriors the same as their Guardians - this way they provide a nice contrast.

The Walkers look nice, but they look only 90% finished to me. I can't suggest how to finish them though, sorry - it is just how I feel about them.

I am afraid I do not like the Avatar at all. He is coloured too light, and compared to the rest of the army looks yellow instead of bone. I get no sense that he is at all "hot", and certainly no sense he contains hot lava. His face looks like Davros, if that means anything to you, and it is too monotone. Also, his Bloody Hand has no blood on it... I wouldn't change anything about anything else in the army, but I'd start from scratch with the Avatar, tbh.

The weapon teams do indeed look better on bases.

The tanks look great, the scheme really makes them pop out and there is just the right amount of bone compared to orange.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

What a well though out and useful critique. I applaud you for it, thank your very much.

On the Farseers sword, It's indeed the same as the guardian warlock but not a coherent theme, I'm in the process of painting a warlock for my storm guardians and it will have a green glowing witchblade.

Dito on the aspects, why on earth people pick one of the more colorful army and then paint every model in the craftworld colors is something I'll never understand.

I'm not sure on how I could "finish" the walkers though. I agree that they don't catch the eye as much as say the skimmers but I don't think the old models offer more than is. Thanx for pointing it out though, I'll have some sleepless nights wondering about how to "finish" them then .

So you don't like my avatar, what a shame , I think it's one of the better models in my army, but that's opinions for ya. Here is my problem, I much wanted it to relate to my craftworld colors and with the brownish red color I felt I could not paint it in the "original" brown-red-orange scheme. So coming form the land of Fire and Ice (did my volcano http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/04/icelands_disruptive_volcano.html trouble you this fall ?) I did a quick research on lava and found out that lava is indeed yellow to white were it runs hottest. So I decided that it was acceptable (to me anyway) to paint it yellow with a mix of yellow/white to pure white highlights, and orange Shade. That still left the cloth and the head-piece to paint in my craftworld colors.

Note that I'm not at all trying to change your mind on my avatar, I fully respect your view, I'm merely explaining why I thought it would work out yellow in stead of red/orange.

Again thanx for your thoughts.

Cheers

Ofc you can, the only problem is that I haven't the slightest idea on what the English word is for the "secret" ingredient It's used for cooking though and mostly baking. A little research tells it's this stuff : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_bicarbonate

Since it has long been known and is widely used, the salt has many related names such as baking soda, bread soda, cooking soda, bicarbonate of soda

This stuff + PVA glue + Water. Can't really go into details about ratio, it's just a mix and feel kind of process for me. What I can say is that I mix water: PVA glue at about 1:1 and that mix goes into the baking soda. Mix it to "wet" and the snow will look to smooth, to "thick" and it will be to chunky.

Hope that helps

I finished painting my wraithlord and I'm pretty happy how it turned out. I've also nearly finished a warlock for my storm guadians, the last model in my 1500 point army, not that I'm stopping there. But that's a nice benchmark to reach. Anyway here is the Wraithlord.

To further my options on weapon selections on the skimmers I've decided to put magnets on some skimmer turrets. I've got both a spare wave serpent and a spare falcon, I've put magnets on those and plan to paint them soon, so until the two skimmers have been painted I can use their turrets to widen my weapon selections.

I was also displeased with the big flat spaces on my wraithlord and since other people agreed I decided to fix it and here's the fix. I quite like it.

Finished my rangers and here they are. With them, and a few extra models I own, such as fire dragon exarch, one extra dire avenger and upgrading my farseer to Eldrad I can now play 1750 point games. I think I'll stop here and turn my attention to my next project. Thanx all for taking the time to viewing my project and for all the great comments and suggestions you've posted.
