Subject: The Demise of Salem, a 40K RPG
|

THE RPG HAS BEGUN, UNLESS YOU ARE ALREADY PLAYING, DO NOT POST ON THIS THREAD Yes, that's right, I'm starting a new RPG, I will be DMing so get ready... This is your worst nightmare, The Demise of Salem. Just a taster of things to come, let's see how many I can get on board... Salem was a promising new settlement on the outskirts of the Eastern Fringe, settled in M.38 it is strategically crucial planet to the efforts of the Imperium in the east. For years, not only has it raised billions of guardsmen for the efforts of Ultima segmentum high command. It has also supplied the raw ores now found in Imperial troops’ equipment across the sector, most notably supplying the admantium used by the Space Marines of Maccrage, the mighty Ultramarines. However as is to be expected in their part of the galaxy, Salem’s planetary defence organisations have come under fierce attack over the years. Whether from rogue Tau expeditionary forces, dark eldar pirates or lurking strands of Tyranid splinter groups, the planet has seen its share of galactic conflict. But, never has the threat of invasion been bad enough to fear the loss of such a vital Imperial planet or merit off-planet aid, until now that is. The four Chaos Gods, sitting on their perverted thrones in the immaterium; looked down on Salem and were disgusted by the hope, prosperity and high moral they saw there. So the dread legions were sent to take the planet from the clutches of the children of the false-emperor. A relatively small force of daemons and renegades threw themselves against the planet’s defences to no avail. Their lack of success was primarily due, not only to the brave forces of the planetary defence company, but to an Imperial Guard regiment that was diverted during transit to aid Salem which munitorium clerks had upgraded to a scarlet level priority defence requirement. So the Chaos forces were repelled and the Imperial citizens safe on their home planet, hoping that the worst was over, they could not have been more wrong... PS. This is fluff from a campaign I have written for me and my friends, hope you like it

No one else biting the juicy bait then? Guess I'll just add more background. Despite the momentary lull in assaults from chaos forces, a very different enemy suddenly struck against the Imperial defenders. The Guard regiment had wisely opted to stay and defend Salem from further attack. A small group of highly trained Tau Stealth suit teams were sent onto the completely unpopulated south-eastern continent to set up a deployment zone for orca landing ships and to sabotage enemy fortifications. Soon, the Imperial defenders, still reeling from the attacks by the forces of Chaos, now had a fully fledged Tau landing force on the ground with 16% of the planets’ surface controlled by the foul xenos. The Imperial defenders, now surrounded decided it was time to call for aid. The plea for help, due to the huge bureaucracy of the whole Imperial system, was not even received by the munitorium by the time the Chaos gods had put the wheels of their next great plan into action. Suddenly the space all around Salem opened up and from the warp burst a huge space hulk. This was not chance, but rather a device of the chaos gods, the hulk was infested with myriad tyranid beasts. The Imperial defenders called on the Blood Angels to aid them in their cleansing of the hulk. Sergeant Lorenzo thrust his powersword through the chitinous form of the tyranid genestealer, the squad had nearly cleansed the final compartment. "All clear my brothers, all clear. Onwards, cleanse these foul Xenos." The squad moved to the end of the room, finding a door leading to what would formerly have been the bridge of the warp twisted vessel. However, something was different, they could tell from the door to the chamber. The door flickered slightly, conflicting with itself nevertheless, Brother Valencio punched in the access code and the door opened slowly. On the other side was a huge square room, seeming impossible in relation to the space it occupied.(It's bigger on the inside!) In the centre of the room was a sunken pit, in the shape of a chaos undivided symbol. Each corner of the room was shiveringly different; one was festering and decaying in entropy, another the wall was splattered with gore and remnants of butchery, the other scented with fine perfumes and items of luxury and decadence. The final corner was inpossible to describe; old but young, warped yet straight, it hurt your eyes. The sunken pit was filled with disgusting liquids and substances, enough to bring a man to unconciousness; pus mixed with blood, a thick black treacly substance, rising up as if it was alive and other unmentionable things sure to taint and burn. However in the middle of this sea of pestilence was a raised pedestal. On the pedestal was a small human child, or a perverse version of a child. Horrificaly mutated and sick, both dying and living, self mutilating and rehealing whilst changing and enjoying it all like some sick version of a child's game. "Warp-born scum." Lorenzo muttered then opened up his vox. "MEN, THIS IS HERETICAL, SHYING FROM THE DIVINE LIGHT OF OUR EMPEROR!" Dropping his tone dangerously he said, "suffer not this mutated witch to live... CLEANSE WITH HOLY BOLT!" When the terminator squad opened fire however, the hyper-velocity shells never met their target. Some turned to blood and bone, falling into the pit and others decayed and fell like dead birds whilst an odd few in fact flew back into the terminator squad, rebounding of the heavy armour plate. They could do nothing and the mutated child flung it's head in an odd cocking motion towards the squad, grotesquely smiling... The room was filled with unholy warp light and then everything went black. only now was the Gods’ true plan coming to light, as the blood angels tried to fight the witch child, space fractured and an almighty warpstorm opened around the hulk, vomiting forth hundreds of chaos ships, the demise of Salem had begun.

One thing, don't kill anyone elses character or do anything 'big'. (I will decide if it's too major) however you can have a conversation with their character or be involved in action with them without the players needing to keep posting to build a conversation.

Here's a map of Salem I have made (sorry about the low quality). The majority of the RPG will be played on the central continent....
Brown spray- mountains, all heavily mined.
red spots- large cities
purple spot- The capital hive, Hawkreach
black spots- ports (the planet has a powerful navy/commercial fleet)
The rest of the planet is primarily agricultural with various settlements and mining stations all over.
Also, the planet is under attack and therefore, a full garrison is in place. alongside various extra contigents... The sky is full of aircraft and tanks lay ready for battle in the scrubland.

Kade reclined slightly in his chair, idly fiddling with his Shotgun. His room in the barracks was pretty small, and he couldn't help but notice that everything about it was pretty depressing; from the drab grey walls to the small cot bed in the corner.
The door behind him swung open, and Kade turned to aim the shotgun straight at the entrance. The youth walking through recoiled in mild shock, and Kade couldn't help but grin at the panic on the poor kid's face. Aiming the Shotgun skywards, the veteran mouthed the word 'boom', before standing and approaching the visitor.
"What is it, lad?" Kade asked, nonchalontly "or did you just want to come and say hi?" The kid looked down, obviously intimitaded by the older man, before replying "General O'Connor wants you in tactical, sir" nervously. Kade sighed, and looked out the nearby window at the explosions slowly drawing nearer outside. "Yeah, yeah, give me a sec and I'll be there" he grumbled, before shooing the kid away.
O'Connor was the picture of nervousness when Kade entered the room, almost yanking the man off his feet as he led him towards the control desk. Bringing up the space view, O'Connor turned to Kade, who let off a groan. "I take it you know who those ships belong too, Guardsmen?" he blustered, sweat pouring off his face. "Word Bearers" groaned Kade. "Why does it always have to be Word Bearers?"The general flicked the display off, before motioning towards the training halls of the building "I know you're not a sergeant, Kade, but you're the best man I've got nearby. Take some new recruits and commence firesweeps of the lower hives. Forget the Tyranids-The Astartes and frontline platoons will deal with them. Just make sure the Word Bearers get no help from anyone down below". Kade rolled his eyes, before asking "Why do I get stuck with the rook's?" The general wasn't amused-"Now, Kade". The veteran snorted, but gave a salute and simply sighed "Yes, sir".

Name: David Sydal Faction: Imperial Citizen Age: 27 Specialty: Hand to Hand Equipment: Sledgehammer, Auto pistol, knuckle duster, Height: 5'11" Weight:210 pounds. Biography: A former wrestling champion and fighter, Sydal was famous across Salem for his incredible gravity defying leaps in the wrestling ring, as well as his legitimate abilities in martial arts, having been a former three time Border Weight Divison champion. When trouble came to Salem, Sydal had recently recovered from an ankle injury he suffered during a match, but quickly took up his old job, putting on free shows with other fighters and wrestlers to keep the morale of the Imperials up. After a close call with a morat strike, Sydal returned to his home to train and fight in a safer area. Appearance: David leapt up from the mat, his kick catching his opponent on the temple. The crowd roared approval as the larger man stumbled back, visibly rocked, then fell on his back. Sydal climbed the turnbuckles of the ring, standing six feet above his enemy. Dave loved this moment. When the soldiers saw him climb, they roared louder then any other crowd he'd ever heard before. Dave leapt out and up, his hands spinning as he flipped. He landed chest first on his opponents stomach. He hooked both legs, and the ref counted to three. He stood victorious over his enemy, playing the hero in the grand drama that was the sport. A shrill whistle came known to his ears. The soldiers dropped and scattered. Sydal looked around confused, wondering what had happened. The mortar struck five feet from the ring. Pieces of shrapnel flew off and embedded themselves in his bicep. His arm looked as though someone had fired buckshot at close range to it. Dave suddenly understood what the whistle had meant as he fell, grasping at his nearly ruined limb. His blood stained the canvas of the ring, more of it then could ever flow from a cut caused by an elbow or knee strike. Sydal screamed as he passed out. How's that for an opening post?
