Don't forget, this is THQ. They've only put out 2 universally bad warhammer titles - Firewarrior and Soulstorm, though the latter was because of Ironlore being a bunch of clueless moron-fethwads. All of the THQ/Relic titles have been amazing. Try and base your opinions on fact.

I have to disagree with you here, just because its different doesnt mean its bad. If your making a game where your playing as a Space Marine you want the player to feel extremly powerfull and your going to get that feeling battling against hordes, not individuals. (usually)
Just because a game is flashy doesnt mean its for idiots dude..Space Marine charcters arent like the typical heros you see in video games, they arent comic relief or...idk...generally likable personalities, so making them kick as much ass as possible makes you envy them in a weird way, and you will keep playing.

Then how come most of the big games around and simple pick up and play controls like halo and *cringe* sc2. Why would they design the games to be less complicated and have less of a dived between different skill levels? How come games can be marketed on visual effects and are produced with a total lack of story line or without an advancing skill set you acquire through out the game. How come games are designed for those with shorter attention spans? Automatically Appended Next Post: Just think about it. Let's take Mario for example. Mario NES- If you touch an enemy; you're dead. Mario Galaxy Wii- You get 3 hits, all regainable by getting coins. You can even get more health, making you take up to 6 hits.
Have you ever played old school mega-man? Perhaps the re releases on ps3; You got one check point, and you didnt even have the ability to shoot up. Now its check points every 15 seconds, obvious hints, and nothing challenging in general.
Do a little bit of reading on the topic.
In the never-ending hunt for casual gamers with extra bucks to spare, developers have seriously dumbed down their products over the last few years. I could give you endless examples -- and you probably know several yourself -- but three specific ones come to mind. Perfect Dark Zero, BioShock, and Splinter Cell Conviction all show just how much designers respect gamers these days -- that is to say, they think we're a bunch of idiots.

Granted, games have become easier and simpler, and it is part of the compromise game producers try to make with the mainstream world;

Most games you can just 'pick up and play' mean you don't have to know all the minutia to have fun. Don't expect to be good playing against other people though.
A game can still be deep, but easy to pick up and start playing.

Its true the are probably be more like fluff marines in this game. I have seen pics of marines missing arms and still fighting. In the novels the kill ratio is like 1 marine : 100 orks

I didnt read every link you tossed around like you were trying to educate everyone, the opinion of "Angry guy complaining from his computer chair that his games lack the difficulty of the original mega man" is pretty amusing though.
Some games are made for casual gamers (like everything on the Wii)
And yeah games like halo and sc2 are easy to pick up, this doesnt mean by any means they are easy to master. The beauty of having games that are simple is that when a player is really REALLY good, its his own raw skill that shows. Games that are overly complicated tend to have an aspect of them that can be abused, abusing an aspect of a game to win is...a bit silly imo.
Im not defending halo, i repeat im not defending halo, but just because the game is simple doesnt mean it isnt hard to beat. Lets just say you are that guy who complains about lack of competition, but only plays single player. Play it on legendary difficulty, nothing about having to dodge bot 1 shot 1 kill snipers who have perfect accuracy is easy.
Video Games are the fastest growing entertainment industry on the planet buddy, so whats your definition of mainstream? or are you just taking the same opinion of
http://www.gamecrashers.net/2010/08/23/games-will-never-be-mainstream
that guy? the same guy who compared the industry now to the crash back in the 80's!?
Yeah the industry crashed because anyone with a computer and some free time could legally make a game for the atari. The E.T. game being the most infamous. The industry is nothing like how it was then. Yeah sometimes crap games end up getting made, crap movies get made all the time too, not every product is going to be something that raises the bar. Innovation takes time.
If you feel like a game isnt challenging enough, be creative and handicap yourself. If you dont want to handicap yourself, stop complaing about games lacking difficulty.
I cant wait for the Space Marine game to come out, because running head long into hordes of orks with a jetpack and a thunderhammer sounds like a good way to spend my afternoon. Enjoy playing Mega Man forever.
P.S. play Demon's Souls.

Goodness me.
Everyone realizes that sweeping generalizations about this game CANNOT be made yet, right?
As far as I know, NOONE except for the creators know the difficulty or background of this game. All we have to go one are about 3 minutes of gameplay that was specifically chosen to showcase the Marine's EXTREME POWER.
So we don't know how easy it will be.
And we have seen NOTHING of the background yet, so we cannot say how in-depth it will be.

Kaidsin, will have to agree with the others here.
Some games are really easy to pick up and play, I don't own an xbox and can pick up Halo and beat people who have been playing it forever. I can also get demolished by people who are brand new to certain games like MW2. Does that mean they're easy? I will answer no, the reason why the new people do better sometimes is because they don't know the tips and tricks that older players may have grown accustomed to.
In MW2 I look at certain places because I know that people really like to hide there, I will use the rooftop level as an example.
Main hiding spots are on top of the roof, on the crane, in the second floor of one of the buildings, and on the helipad. While I look for the players there, I forget about the guy on the ground in front of me who is about to knife me. They don't have any habits to follow, don't know any "kill routes", and don't know a lot of the better hiding spots but manage to hide in plain sight.
Also, a lot of people who lord over megaman seem to be stuck in the 80's for some reason. There is no other game hard enough to quench their palates except for the little blue guy with a gun for an arm. Here's a hint though, once you know the tricks it isn't hard anymore.
As for spacemarine, it does indeed look good. A lot better than when that one australian company was supposed to be making it, a bolt pistol only stuns?
Sure we don't know the back story, but its ultramarines vs orks. They don't necessarily have that good of a friendship you know and if it does follow the DoW series they do pretty good fluffwise for explaining why SM are attacking IG, that stuff about the relics and all. So I think that its safe to say that they will not be fighting each other because someone knocked someone else's milkshake over.

To explain why the Marines in the game are superawesome:
About five minutes into my demonstration of Relic’s Space Marine I realise what I’m looking at is a 3rd person shooter that draws heavily from Gears of War, so I ask an obvious question. “Is there some kind of cover system?” Relic man grins. “Actually, the team has an internal line about that. We say, ‘Cover is for Pussies.’”
From rockpapershotgun
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/08/13/whoosh-bam-space-marine-preview/
The interview indicated that they're trying to keep the Marines as close to fluff as possible.
Also, it gives a pretty complete picture of the backstory.
I love rockpapershotgun.

Brass rains on the sidewalk--

A song I first heard years ago--
Of fireteams dug in on the breaks between the paddyfields, of tracer lasering the jungle night, of Hueys screaming through the void--
Of Lieutenant Castle getting short and hating it, wanting 'Nam to last forever--

Come to sing you to sleep."
