My friend got me it in California, and the date on the box says 1994. He's not back yet though, so I haven't actually gotten it and taken a look at it. It's sealed and in the box (according to him).

A couple questions though. How hard is this thing to put together? What options does it have (I've heard GW used to sell turrets separately at one point) ?

How much could I get for it in trades? Would someone be willing to trade a 2010 leman russ for this one?

They apparently had a OOP manticore too, but he didn't have enough money, so he didn't buy me that one. Meh.

Really? Your friend acquired an out-of-print Leman Russ and your first thought is "what can you get out of it?" Really?

Yes. I payed him to get it for me, so I can do what I want with it. I guess. I'll probably end up just keeping it anyway. I need a leman russ.

This is amusing.

The 1994 Leman Russ- is the same kit they sold until the recent retooling of the IG tanks-yes GW sold the same Leman Russ model for like 15 years. It will have some different decals, but I think thats about it. It will have the hull Lascannon, and HB sponsons.

Be wary however- Im pretty sure GW never made a 40k Manticore- those are FW, or Epic 40K. So- dont be shocked if the Leman Russ is an Epic mini tank in a 1994 blister

So, for the Russ- you might be able to get more than retail for it on ebay- finding some collector that wants the shiny box to remind them of their mis-spent youth. But its unlikely a gamer would trade a new kit for it- since the new ones have more options in the box and are a bit easier to assemble.

Ah. That was my worst fear. Oh well, at least there are videos online to put it together.

The kit they just got rid of is okay, I guess. I'm using those options anyway, so it should be fine.

I guess I'll just keep it then!

That's hardly surprising, given that Sisters are in the same boat still, with second edition metal models and all. Though I'm more surprised it was the leman russ that ended up this way, as I always saw this as a popular vehicle.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Everything is Sisters with you isn't it...

Back on track! Really? Same tank style for 15 years? Wow I guess sales proved if it isn't broke don't fix it...until marketing got the genius idea to slap on chimera tracks

Personal comments redacted by The Mgmt.

GW doesn't always make decisions which make financial sense to anyone... well, aside from themselves (which is often a very skewed and limited perspective). Though they have gotten a bit better over the years.

^Nice and typical, return a casual observation with a personal attack.

At least you edited it to take some of the vitrol out of the post. I guess we should take that as a sign of improvement.

On topic:

@OP-So you gonna leave it in the box and use it as a retirement investment or you gonna rip into it like its christmas.

I always got the feeling GW created the STC story purely as a means to justify them using the same Rhino chassis for every vehicle (until they started using the same chimera chassis for every vehicle). I guess they just really hate having to sculpt new tanks.

Though having said that, GW are still running the same Ragnar Blackmane model from Rogue Trader... That guy has gotta be coming close to 20 years old by now. Maybe they just generally don't like sculpting new stuff.

The only thing that I know that is different about the 1994 Leman Russ is that it will have different accessories than the 3rd/4th edition Leman Russ and the 5th edition Leman Russ.

For example, look at this picture:

This one only has a different dozer but the stormbolter attachment looks different as well iirc.

I see the irony and the humor of the statement was lost on you. I understand that you will not change until you desire to, until such a time, I will write off most of the abusive stuff you post as "you just being you".

On-Topic
@Vlad: You got any pictures of what the LeMan Russ's packaging looked like back in 1994? I was joking earlier but began to wonder if there could be a potential collectors market on such. Changes in packaging would help define value as such.

@OP:Now I am not the type to collect, but it might be worth considering when determining the Fate of the model.

Edit for dropped sentence.

Those side sponsons look suspiciously like the metal sponsons which came on the old Predator kit. PITA to keep them stuck to the plastic hull without additional hardware.

I dunno. The friend who bought it for me says I should just build it.

I just went over to his house today and got it from him. It looks pretty old! I'll probably magnetize the sponson boxes...but yeah, I think I'll rip it open tonight..Unless someone can convince me

...urrrr... I dunno

Well, I always kinda liked the old Russ (of course I did, it's not that different from the new one) and so I'd just say build it. Lots of people have this style of Russ, so it won't stand out much at all as being out of date.

Yeah, exactly. The only thing that's different is the box...I don't really care enough to bother with ebay.

I'll open it right now! (unless you can convince me!)

Well, I opened it. Never noticed how tiny they were It smells like the 20th century! I have to say, GW used to put much more work into their instruction manuals before. This one is really detailed. It's got words on it in, not just pictures!

Why is there a strom bolter option? Have they ever been able to take storm bolters?

No, I'm afraid I don't have a picture of the package. Not sure how much collector's value would go into it, it will be worth a little more than for what it was originally purchased for. More if it's NIB.

Obviously now it's not haha

@ Samus- there should be instructions as to what to do with the wheels.
Also there was an option for pintle Storm Bolters in the old guard codex. I don't have the new one so I'm not sure if it stayed.

I don't think I'll paint it....I have no patience for painting anything except my beautiful black legion marine tanks.
