LOL the old sticker flags. If you manage to fold that bad boy in half without it being off a little you win at stickers. Just dont get it wet, they go to hell in a hurry.

I laugh at hearing people complain about GW kits being difficult. I built model cars and tanks for years before discovering 40k. Go build a 1:35th scale modern tank and then cry about Leman Russ tracks!

It's ok, we can laugh at them together.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

I think they did a half ar#ed job of the new kits. It's great to have the wepon options (even if the flamer is upside down on one of the box photos!) and a slightly new look, but I don't think the new russ turret really matches the style of the hull, and I prefer the old tracks. They were so useful. I remember buying the sprues of them separatly when they were available, were really useful for conversions and double spacing tracks etc. I liked the old accessories sprue too. The updated one has loads of useful stuff but the old one seemed a bit quirky. Even the searchlights have found uses on my models (not as lights though!). What I miss the most are the separate doors on the side of the hull. If you had the sponsons that left you with tw of them spare. They were so useful for adding deatil to other things. There's two on the back of my warlord at the moment. Such a waste to mould them onto the hull. Surely they could have squeezed them onto the new sprue.

anyway rant over.... 2nd ed was a really good (if slow at times) game. I remember having lots of bits of card about though. I think my favourite version has to be the current one though. It's got a lot more pace but there's a few nice little hints at 2nd e.g. ramming rules. As for the old transport=tomb, if you had a really hard unit it was worth the risk, aaahh back when rhino rushing was a viable tactic.

The wheels go in between both halves of the track units.
They are spacers as well as rests for the track pieces.

@Zeshin: Nope, plastic sponsons. They have a squared off front, the old metal ones were angled at front and back.

15 years old isn't 'old'.
(Although it probably IS older than you)

Three days late but whatever.

yeah having pulled out my old marine vehicles your right, the sponsons are shaped different in the front. Wish they had ben plastic, would have made life easier.

Also I hope the 15 year old comment wasn't directed at me...I'm old enough to be that kits daddy...almost.

I'm not sure when I'll get around to painting it... It's already assembled though...Except for the treads, which for some reason I forgot to put on :3

Also, I'm not sure if I want to magnetize the sponsons or not.... Any reccommendations for magnetizing them? I have no idea where to start, I've never done it before :3

As for painting..I'll take the standard excuse and say it's hard, but most of my IG isn't painted, so I'm really just lazy. I'm pretty good at painting cadians too, I just don't have the time to paint them all to such a good standard

Pics of everything in and on the box here. The pics should be good. They look okay at 1/10th actual size, soo...Have fun! It'll be assembled tonight.. I think.

I don't think I'll paint it....I have no patience for painting anything except my beautiful black legion marine tanks.

Dakka...Sigh. I wanted it to be a seperate post!

Look above!

Wow, thanks for the awesome documentary esque pictures. Have you thought perhaps of painting it in a classic way, like how they used to do things way back in 2nd ed but with a modern touch? With the flags and all it might look awesomely retro.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

Possibly. The flag is a possiblility, but I'd rather use my own tape for it I don't want to mess that sticker up :3

The pics are in a bad order, even though I uploaded them right, Idk

I would definately use the flags. Perhaps putting a modern day searchlight on it would make it look more up to date as well?

Since we're ally talking about the good ol' days, I'll share a funny story. I started 40k in 3rd edition, and my hobby knowledge grew from the pictures in the 3rd edition rule book and codices. I had purchased a whirlwind, and wasn't shocked at what I got. When I went to get my rhino, I was dumbfounded at what they had given me. I had thought all rhinos were the old style.

Needless to say, the new rhinos are much better!

The difference between commitment and involvement is like eggs and ham; the ckicken was "involved", the pig was "comitted".
