Hey everyone,

I've got a couple squads of these guys, and I really, really like how they are modeled. And they aren't terribly priced compared to the other full metal IG armies ($35 for like 10 people and a HWT) What do you guys think about them? I have never seen an army of them, but nobody I have talked to has anything bad to say about them.

I was wondering, does anyone know how they fight (Like with tanks, footslogging, etc.)? I don't have the Cities of Death Codex, and can't find anything in the IG one.

Also, what are some good schemes besides the original? I was thinking a gray based one.

Thanks in advance everyone.

I'd field them as veterans with carapace armor, since that's basically what they're modeled with. Also keeps their high $$$ cost down. Put them in Chimeras or footslog it. The bit of fluff they have is that they're well trained, and they pass down their finely crafted, handmade lasguns down from generation to generation. I think that fits with the veteran aesthetic.

Their models are really, really high class. They were released to be a real painter's army, and their quality reflects that. I think they're some of the best models GW's ever made, and I hope they make more in the future.

I love them and I would totally collect them if they were plastic, I'm not a fan of metal models unfortunately :(

Anyway, Most people who use them play them as veterans I think, as they are seen as more elite soldiers, but other than that, I'd say they were played the same as regular IG armies, with the same tanks and everything.

Colour schemes I guess are up to you, I love the red and gold one myself but you have plenty of options, I think a scheme with blue cloth and silver armour would look good.

Look at the size of 'em!

Thats good because I love Veteran armies!

I'm thinking about doing a 1500 or 2000 point, since I really only have to buy one firstborn squad. So chimeras and Russ's? Also, do you think they'd use Basalisks? I love those.

I like them, in fact they're the only army I've held on to. But they seem every bit as expensive as other metal IG armies, and this makes me a sad panda.

What color were the tanks? Red? (For the normal GW scheme)

The tanks are done up in a "Marble" color. And I say go for it, the Vostroyan models are beautiful.

I've sold so many armies. :(

Vostroyan tanks have red stripes/marks on the forefront of their vehichle. But the rest is a combination of...Commando Khaki and Graveyard Earth?

Alright, I'll try out a few schemes, and post up pics. It won't be for a bit though, got 2,000 points of raven guard to paint.

There's a Story about them in the imperial guard omnibus. They are extremely hardl and willing to put everything on the line to get things done to satisfy their pride. They are gifted cityfighters, and insanely in love with their mustaches. Vostroyans are full of win.

They are also a little on the short side.

Vostroyans are based on Russian Tsarist troops, (I'd guess Life Regiments).

Their models are the most recent IG range to come out IIRC, so would be, and are, the best crafted.

And unlike the 'Zulu'-Praetorians, Vietnam-Catachans, 20thC soldier-Cadian, Scottish/Ninja-Tanith etc. the Vostroyans have a cool character, dedicated attitude to warfare and are solemn and respectful. No Markus Fenixes or 'Blithe's' (from Band of Brother, ep3, the quiet one), they are better than average troopers with heritage and honour. Therefore, my favourite Guard.

I don't play as much as I could. I blame society! And ninjas

Wehrkind: "Nah, see he yells the order, and when everyone looks at him and say "What?" he grabs the vox, hits a guy with it and screams "CAN YOU HEAR MY NOW?!" into the mouth piece. Works like a charm "

Funny thing to do on L4D [if you own the server] Bind the tank music to a key, then at quiet moments press it and start firing like mad at something behind your team whilst screaming 'tank' on voice comms.

Believe me, I'm not picking them to be Space Commies I dislike communism greatly.

I think I'm going to try a few schemes, a black based, blue based, red like the normal GW scheme, and a gray base.

Thanks for all your help again.

To be honest, if you plan on using heavy teams then its actually cheaper to buy 1st borns lol.

Looks wise i love em, but couldnt handle an all metal army sadly.

With Vostroyans I'm probably going to keep it in the lower point values because they are all metal, and I want to put care into every unit.

Playing wise, do you think I could fit the HWTs with my Veteran company?

EDIT: Do you think Vostroyans would use any other Imperial unit, such as Storm Troopers or anything?

The reason I ask that is because being metal, there aren't many variants of them so its just another reason to keep the limit down.

...urrrr... I dunno

I like the Vostroyans a great deal.
I'd like them even more if they were just a bit cheaper, but hey, as a student it's the law that I be poor.

Right? Haha, I sold some stuff from a different hobby of mine and got $500 so I'm putting about half into a new army.

Hmm speaking of being cheap it kinda sucks that most if not all historical models are true scale. I would love to bulk out my few vostroyan squads with some victrix

Sounds like I'm in the minority, but I really don't like them at all. If I was going with a metal IG army, I'd much rather field Steel Legion or Valhallans.

I like steel legion, love them, I played them, but after people started calling me a Nazi...I stopped lol. I would try to explain that I just like how they are made, but it doesn't help that I wear German Soccer Jerseys a lot.

Also, what scale are those models Kenshin?

I agree Emperors_Faithfull

Valhallans are cool, but to be fluffy you'd need a lot of infantry and conscript squads. I really wouldn't wish that on anybody to buy that many metal models.

28mm true scale. They are Victrix's Napoleonic Old Guard. They have the Grenadiers right now and coming soon Chasseurs (the ones in my previous post)

the last pic is a conversion done with their heads and the wargames factory greatcoats. notice the body differences between the heroic greatcoat and the truescale sergeant

From the beginning, I've always most closely related IG armies to the Russian Army circa WWII.

Heh, hence why I own Cadians.

Thanks for the pics kenshin, what elites do you think they would use?

I'm thinking of using Vostroyan Snipers but with the Ratling rules.

Also, are there any other elites I could do something similar with?

Ratlings, Ogryns, and Psykers probably are ambiguous with any regiment I suppose since they form their own regiments/etc. Although sure I suppose you could use the vost snipers for ratlings (although they'd be a bit tall)

with their connections to the ad mech (I think?) they probably also have some well equipped storm troopers. if going imperial armor I'm sure they have some medium artillery batteries consisting of heavy mortars and quad launchers.
