Subject: Female Necrontyr Question
|
 |
Fresh-Faced New User

Hey all,
So the necrontyr were encased in living metal by the C'tan.
Most lost their personalities with a few exceptions such as the Necron Lords.
Now, I'm assuming he C'tan made servants of females as well as males but just encased them in a masculine shell? (Seeing as all necrons look male)
So, would the C'tan be sexually prejudiced in their selection of the leaders of their undead army (Necron Lords)?
If so, why?
If not, would these female necron Lords retain their femininity as that is a part of their personality?
Thought it would be an interesting discussion.
Thanks in advance,
Brad.

See, we don't know if the Necrontyr as a race had genders...
And even then, they only retain streaks, like cruelty, or cunning, nothing so distinct as genderist mannerisms.

I don't know if the C'tan even care about a species sex.
I think they would look the same just like skeletons in humans look the same(only some minor diffrences).

It was a humanoid race. I think it's safe to assume there were male and females. Unless you can suggest another viable means of reproduction for humanoids?

Touche. I always thought of them looking exactly like humans, though. Since that's the structure the C'tan gave them.

My pet theory is that the Necrontyr were actually spider/beetle-shaped creatures (as evidenced in the style of some Necron units), and their Necrodermis war-bodies were only humanoid in shape as a ploy to terrify their humanoid opponents. The precedent for this would be Flayed Ones; they wear the guise of the enemy for intimidation purposes, just taking it one step further than the rest. It'd be especially cool if the Necrontyr were like the Skaven, with their females being only bloated breeding machines that continuously spit out young; a phenomenon that is replicated on the battlefield by Tomb Spiders and their relationship with Scarabs. That's right, Scarabs are actually giant swarms of robot Necrontyr babies, you heard it here first. And if you think about it, Tomb Spiders conduct battlefield repairs and are the Necron's "medics," sounds like a classically feminine, nurturing and protecting role to me.

Sounds like an excellent theory to me especially given that the Necrontyr would undoubtedly have needed to have knocked out as many sprogs as possible due to their terrible lifespans.
Then again perhaps with Necrontyr science having progressed so far in their pursuit for longevity it may have transpired that they were incapable of reproduction outside of a laboratory with twisted Necrontyr offpsring being grown artifically in machines which gives a taste of what was to happen to them once they met the C'tan and would undoubtedly have given them a very cold and unfeeling attitude since they would have lacked any kind of family setting.
It could also be that their hatred for life is what prompted the genderless forms they now inhabit, any acknowledgement of biology, reproduction and family totally obliterated in an attempt to remove themselves as far as possible from the weakling beings they so despised.

If the necrontyr had genders I doubt the C'tan would give a crap about that when they where encasing them in metal bodies. It doesn't really matter to them. And why do you think they would even be that feminine? These aren't humans we're dealing with, it's an entirely different race with very different evolutionary and cultural upbringings. I hoped I used the right terms there, I think I did.

I figure if the Necrontyr did have distinct and separate genders, the C'Tan put them in unisex bodies to better break down their identities and further enforce the "robot apocalypse" theme.

\ Or maybe they were just of uniform height as between genders. And the C'Tan didn't notice the wider pelvis if the Necrontyr females had them. Skeletons are skeletons; miniatures enthusiasts are only rarely forensic pathologists.

I imagine the necrotyr as a bunch of hairless, anorexic, ghoul people who look perpetually unhappy. I would have never thought of there being major differences between genders and, honestly, I see no reason to assume that the necron models are male. There's just as much of a chance as them being all female. Although they're probably just a bunch of boring gray sad genderless people who became a bunch of boring genderless robotic death skeletons. Also, the Lords are said to be a shadow of their former selves. They may still identify with a specific sex, but I doubt it would be much more than a passing thought to them, given that it doesn't have anything to do with being full of hate and very (x2) grimdark.
(Although them being insectlike would have suddenly made them a bit more interesting...)

This.
I mean seriously, I doubt most people who aren't specifically studying the subject would know the difference between HUMAN skeletons of different genders unless they were told beforehand (And even then if they left the room for a day and someone removed the labels things up, they might not notice a difference). Nevermind a non-human skeleton.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

This. Considering that your average necron is arguably not self aware past what it needs to fulfil its functions. I don't think they'll make an effort to give them any individuality.

This made me laugh also I guess I always assumed Necroytr being insect like humanoids probably from the repeated themes of spiders and other insect motifs in the glyphs and the army, and many groups of insects have virtually no distinction between sexes and some species are hermaphroditic as well

I always thought they were kinda like your typical Alien Greys though not so far down the uncanny valley. But like one poster said: thin, hairless, grey, and unhappy. Like people with cancer, which is essentially what they were.
Also being insectoid seems pretty farfetched, Lords should be giant spiders or something since they remember the most of their former lives. I think a skeleton motif is far more prevalent than a scarab/spider one there's only 2 bug units and they are the equivalent of drones to the necrons. Though I do like to joke that scarabs are necrontyr babies in their necrodermis shell.

I'd say that when your average necron is reduced to a fraction of its former sentience. Gender becomes a meaningless term.
