"The Mind Tearers were originally a trusted Chapter of Space Marines but, fueled by a deep hatred of Chaos and a deep desire to kill as many traitors as they could, the chapter became more and more obsessed with dark magic and psychic warfare.

The Imperium considered their methods to be unnatural and they were accused of being Heretics, they were declared enemies of the Emperor but, rather than fight their once brothers, they disappeared into the deeper regions of space.

All evidence of the chapter was destroyed and all knowledge of their existence was filtered away. They became nothing more than a whisper, a tale told to new recruits to scare them.

However, recently a transmission has surfaced only days old of an infamous Chaos leader crying as he carving the Mind Tearers symbol into his own face, before falling to the ground dead.

It was clear that the Mind Tearers had returned and the soldiers that had heard tales and whispers of the ghost chapter were afraid, would they come seeking revenge on their old brothers or would they continue their campaign of terror upon the Chaos?"

Hi folks,

That is a quick summary of the History behind my Custom Chapter The Mind Tearers. I've been a hobbyist since I was about 10 and now, at 18 I decided to create my own Chapter.

To start with here is the chapter's colours along with a painted Marine and a chapter master.

Nice color scheme!
But i think you need an additional layer of purple on the marine since the wite undercout is showing throug the prurple, that and some shading in the deeper recesses unless it just a test mini because your chapter master has them done.
I think you should go back and fix the chapter master to were the black wash has flown out of the recess and becom a little "wide" and some black lining in the eagle's wings to seperate them and make the stand out a bit more. Only minor things to do but the reward will be well worth it.

Somewhere in the steamy jungles of the south...

The faces look promising, but, as others have said, you do need another layer of purple on the armor, and some highlighting is needed. Also, the white is showing through on some of the freehand, so you need another layer or two applied.

Keep the good work up!

Hi guys, thanks for the tips, this is the exact kind of constructive criticism i need to perfect my chapter.

Alright, Tactical Squad, just need to paint the 'eye' symbol on their shoulders.

As you may notice I have mixed some Space Wolf parts in to give them a more 'rogue' look. I have also made left many of them without helmets and instead made them into old warriors.

The 'eye' symbol on the banner is the symbol of the Mind Tearers.

You did a wonderful job on the banner, and the purple looks much "cleaner". Can't wait to see what comes up next.

incredible job. I would love to read their lore!

Only thing I'm wondering about is this: If they had such a huge hatred for chaos, why did they dwell so much into dark magic? I'd think such a chapter would be more like the Black Templars, hateing anything arcane and mutated. Or maybe it's a "we have to use the enemies powers against them" type of thing? Anyway, can't wait to see more of these and there was some interesting fluff on your site.

They could hate chaos but they could also have the radical version of it where they think they are so pure they can handle dark magics.

I'm loving how people are discussing the background of my chapter. Making up stories and history for them is one of the best bits.

Asherian Command have got it about right. They figure the best way to kill them is with their own tactics, but at the same time they consider themselves to be using the powers in the name of the Emperor.

Assault Squad WIP

Here are some Assault Marines, they were just testers. I was really working on the helmets. Im happy with the look. The Sergent's shield was fun, (custom battle damage) and you may notice I had a go at painting the power weapon using a WD tutorial from a month or so ago.

And im still using 'hairy man' heads from the Space Wolves. Considering the chapter were supposedly in exile until recently their recruits would all have been with the chapter since before they were declared traitors.

Im working on a Banner Bearer now. Pictures Soon.....

Banner Bearer - WIP

Hey, though I'd upload pics of my banner bearer so far...parts list below

Legs -Space Wolves (with symbol filed away)
Torso -Space Wolves
Pack -Space Wolves
Right Arm -Space Marine
Left Arm -Space Wolves (Power Sword removed)
Flag -Empire (Fantasy)

For the head I will probably use another old man head but, seeing as this will be part of my command squad I may use one of the heads for the Command Squad Boxed Set.

I will scan in design ideas for the actual banner and post soon.....

Good work on the assault squad! I imagine it must be pretty hard to use SW parts without making your marines look like SW with different colours. So far, you have succeeded keeping them different enough! Keep it up

Rhino

Been working on a Rhino for a while now, they usually takes no time at all but I took special care in Paintign the Interior to this one.

Also note the Gunner has another Space Wolves head and hanging on the end of the Bolter are some space wolves talismans.

INTERIOR FEATURES
- Railings for those bumpy Rides
- A hook on each side
- Imperial flask
- Posters
- Discarded helmet (fallen brother or brave marine)
- Bloody rag hanging on Drivers door.

Like?

Just realized the front headlights aren't painted

Very good looking army you have forming here. The use of a restricted palette really does help the figures to pop. Only crits I can offer is to check and double check for those mold lines (assault marines) and also to drill barrels as it adds another level to the realism.

I normally yawn at most home-made chapters, but I like this. It's shaping up nicely.

My only gripe is if they're excommunicated by the imperium, wouldn't their gear be old and worn out? I like the purple, but I feel it could use a little more weathering.

Thats a great idea! Why have i not thought of this? I will do some testers and upload pics soon so we can choose the best one.

Ok here it is, all the background fluff on the Mind Tearers. Be warned, I have, like many people who make their own chapters, claimed one of the two missing primarchs for my own. Their story still works without it but it does add to the tragedy and loneliness of the chapter.

If you really dont like the use of Primarch XI let me know.

Underlined Character are Mind Tearer special Characters.

(For those of you who dont know the imperial records give no information about Primarch II or Primarch XI)

Pre Heresy

Official records state that the story of Primarch XI is unknown. In fact the official records were wiped many years ago as the true story of Primarch XI is far more sinister. Although we now know of the Primarch's legacy and chapter we have yet to discover his original name and whether or not he is still alive.

Despite what records say Primarch XI was recovered during the Great Crusade. He was the last Primarch to be found and was always disregarded by the other chapters. Where as Horus is widely considered as The Emperors favorite Son, Primarch XI was surely his least favorite.

Primarch XI was constantly seeking the Emperors approval but nothing he did was ever good enough.Only Horus could see the true Potential of Primarch XI.

Heresy

When Horus turned to the Gods of Chaos he expected Primarch XI to be one of his first followers, due to the lack of compassion the Emperor showed him. Horus tried to convince him that by joining the forces of Chaos he would achieve his potential and make the Emperor feel remorse for not treating him with more respect.

Primarch XI was instead horrified by the treachery and believed that if he could rid the universe of the Traitors he would finally gain the approval of the Emperor

The Mind Tearers were one of few chapters not to lose a single man to the Heresy as each and every one shared the true anger their Primarch felt towards the Traitors.

The heretics that turned to chaos made the Mind Tearers furious and they dedicated their purpose to hunting and killing Chaos Space Marines. In their quest they experimented with new weapons and techniques to aid in the elimination of the chaos.

The Inquisition started to question their methods, claiming them to be unnatural. The methods that concerned them were the Mind Tearers fascination with dark magic and psychic warfare.

Their infamous telepathic tactics had been developed by what became known as 'The First Three'. 'The First Three' was made up of the chapters founding Primarch, Chief Librarian Drasiedini and Brother Corrompere. These pioneers went on to master the dark art of psychic attack and began training new marines in the same way.

This new found power caused their enemies all sorts of physical and mental pain before death, it could kill men in ways unimaginable to an ordinary marine.</td>

Post-Heresy (The Last Day)

The Inquisition were waiting for an excuse to eliminate the Chapter and they found it when, during one battle against a group of Night Lords, Chief Librarian Drasiedini lost control of his physic abilities and killed all within a large radius including himself and a large group of Imperial Guards.

The Inquisition was swift in its judgment and Witch Hunters ascended the planet within hours.

The remaining Mind Tearers, now led by Commander Corrompere, had a choice; to stay and fight their own people or to flee. They chose to leave the planet. Hoping one day to return and gain the trust and respect of the Imperium

The Mind Tearers vanished. They didn't fight back but instead fled into the depths of space.

All Mind Tearers were declared enemies of the Imperium. All evidence of the chapters existence was destroyed, including the origin and existence of their Primarch. Other chapters replaced the Mind Tearers in stories and tales.

Of course, even the Inquisition couldn't completely eradicate knowledge of the Mind Tearers.

There were still whispers of the 'Ghost Chapter' and it's infamous methods.

Present

Recently many librarians and chapter masters have had nightmares and visions of a space marine adorned in stained purple Armour standing in the shadow with their face hidden by the dark.

The fears of the few high priests and Inquisitors that knew of the Mind Tearers were confirmed when a day old tranmission surfaced of a infamous Chaos leader on his knees in a cell, crying as he carved the Mind Tearers symbol into his own forehead. The traitors tears became blood and the once feared warmonger fell to the cold floor, dead.

It was certain, the Mind Tearers had returned, more powerful than before, still yearning for the Emperor's acceptance and still ravaged with a boiling hate of Chaos.

Well there we are, pretty intense right?
