Really it is. Ive noticed that DAKKA has a serious lack of Wii on its pages and I find that sad, being a big fan of the system. So Im making the thread to post games Ive started playing, have played or beaten that are worth mentioning.
Why? Its simple. Like all systems, the Wii has alot of crap that I call "filler" games that you have to wade through to get to the good ones, and that sucks for everyone. So Ill mention the ones that I found fun, or good for killing 10 minutes before work, or that are actually good games, that way you wont have to do the hard work yourself.
Guilty Party
If Clue, and Leslie Nealson got it on, this would be the love child. At first it looks kindda weird and I thought it was going to suck. Ive played alot of bad games where the characters were designed exactly the same way. But to my surprise this one is pretty enjoyable, specially if youve got kids that want to hang, or youve got some friends over for the party game thing.
You look for clues to try and capture the bad guy by running all over looking for clues. You get alot of good clues by interacting with people and objects, usually followed by cheesy, yet funny mini games to get said clues. One I laugh at alot, is where you get to basically beat the hell out of someone, to get their eyes really wide and intimidate them. I havnt beaten it yet, but the wife and I had a good laugh for just over an hour on this one, and Im pretty sure on her next day off we are going to have at it again. So if your looking for cheesy fun, and a good laugh, or something to compliment your buzz, you should check this out

I really liked Madworld, that game was awesome. The commentators really made it great though, they were hilarious. I wish they would make a sequel.
Super Paper Mario is great.
Zelda Twilight Princess=Win
I didn't like Super Smash Bros. Brawl as much as Melee, but its good.
Super Mario Galaxy was also great, but I never played the sequel. Same with No More Heroes, I liked the first but never got around to getting the second one.
Yea theres a BUNCH of Wii titles I really am looking forward to playing. Infact I even restarted Zelda Twilight Princess, as I rented it and played the hell out of it for a week, and then after I took it back that was it. So Im pretty stoaked about that one.
Need for Speed: Pro Street
Im a huge fan of racing games, always have been. Ive been waiting and counting the days that Gran Tourismo 5 finally pokes its head out of the ground. Infact, some years ago, when need for speed underground was popular, I won a local tournament of said game, So obviously Im not slouch when it comes to racing games. I stuck the nunchuck on thinking itll use the nunchuck for steering, like a PS3 or 360 would. Nope, its sideways and steering like a steering wheel.
Initially, I was worried, as anyone that has played any OTHER system with a steering wheel knows, its not only impossible, but just not fun. BUT! I am officially floored. The steering mechanics are so tight on this game, I actually busted out this bad boy which until now, only my son has used The game has a bunch of different style races. Grip, which is your standard strait up run what you brung race. Drag, dur, its a drag race, drift and speed race. Im assuming speed race is a race that involves a high top end, Im not 100% as I JUST unlocked that one and have yet to buy a car for it.
This game is pretty neat so far, the AI is pretty good and can actually give you(me) a good challenge at times. Im kicking ass on grips, its almost too easy at times, but they have some REAL tight turned tracks and I have to say, my usual "STOMP!!! STOMP STOOOOOMP!!!!" style racing goes out the window. These tracks are hard because everyone is RIGHT no your ass. Drags are kindda weird. I like them, but you hold the remote like a fishing pole, and shake up to shift, and twist to turn. This is why its weird, because Ill be watching the RPMs so I shift right and dont blow up my nice, incredibly expensive Chevelle, and then notice that Im just veering towards the walls or the other car. So twisting is weird for steering.
I suck at drifting. I dunno if I just havnt figured it out yet, but when I do win, its only by luck. This I must say, I wish they let you use the nunchuck for steering. But oh well. You can customize the cars pretty damn good. There are ALOT of options on this, specially for being on the Wii. Infact even the graphics look pretty good as well. Now obviously when GT: 5 comes out, Ill laugh at the graphics on the Wii, but it still stands, for a Wii title this looks good. Its a blast, and yesterday I logged on a good 2 hours or so in one shot without batting an eye. So if you're the racing type, check this one out for sure. Its a pretty awesome real racing game for the Wii, it doesnt feel childish or poor quality at all. If for nothing else, try it just for the super tight racing steering. Im just shocked that they got it so good
Have to say I liked Paper Mario - it was really cool to have 2D and 3D play mixed together like that.
Mario Galaxies was quite fun as well, though it got a bit boring doing the same galaxies several times.
Whatever Mario game it is where you have 4 players and try to get through all the levels (Super Mario Brothers?) was really fun playing it with the wife, brother-in-law and mother-in-law.
We have a wii, but it doesn't get used very much except for the workout game. Super Mario Bros Wii was fun, but since my wife is terrible at it, it's hard to take advantage of the 2-player mode
I have a Wii but I got a PS3 because I wanted a blu ray player and i haven't touched my Wii since :( But, I am planning to get the new Zelda game that's supposed to come out next year.
I loved Mario Kart when it first came out, but that game gave me more road rage than I've ever had in a normal car. When you're 5 pixels from the finish line and turtle shell takes you out, and then you see the ahole drive by you and wave... made me wanna toss my steering wheel out the window many many times
For the Wii: get Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Twilight Princess, Smash Brothers Brawl, Super Paper Mario, and play Wii Sports. There's a few other gems out there, but nothing that will be considered a classic, IMO.
After those games, take your Wii and sell it back.
The Wii has so much potential and such a large market share that it should be able to get some really good 3rd party exclusives. Unfortunately, for reasons I don't understand, they can't seem to get quality games on this system. Its kinda sad that such an innovative system can't get proper support. Maybe someday developers will figure out a way to use motion controls in a non-gimmicky way, but it hasn't happened yet.
Nintendo needs to get back to what they were doing during the early NES, SNES, N64 days or just get out of the console business and stick to handhelds (which they are the undisputed kings of, from the first Game Boy until now).
The games you list are almost all Mario-Based... Wii Sports is the only one that doesn't have him in some form (and Twilight Princess I would assume, I've never heard of it).
This follows Nintendo's formula... their Mario games always do the best.
If anything, they're doing what they've always done, but missing out on some of the possibilities that exclusive 3rd party developers would have to offer...

Twilight Princess is the Zelda game.
And, I only included Wii Sports because it's the best game for wowing you with the controller.
No saying that the only games worth playing are the few you mentioned jsut shows that you have barely scratched the surface of Wii games. Infact I played 007 Goldeneye the other day for a few minutes to check it out, and Ive got to say, that is going to be on par with the 64 version. Not quite so HOLY CRAP!!!! as the 64 version is pretty much the very first FPS, but Ive gotta say in the few minutes I had with it, I know its going to be awesome.
There are plenty of really good games on the Wii, that is the reason for this thread, Im going to find them, and talk about them
Try Okami, Red Steel, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, No More Heroes and Warioland shake-it. Also Donkey Kong Country Returns looks awesome!
Epic yarn is really strange, but I just love it. If it werent for the Need for Speed game taking all my time recently, Id be playing that one alot more.
I also only started Galaxies, and so far it seems pretty cool. My only thing is getting used to how you traverse the landscapes. Its really weird having the land move like that
Got my Wii the day it came out. Got disapointed by the lack of what I'd call 'true' games and the amount of casual crap that was on it and bought myself an xbox 2 years ago. I pull out the Wii every now and then but I won't buy another game till the next LoZ comes out.
Brawl, Twilight princess, Galaxy and a few others I enjoyed.
But I've been playing games since i was 3 and since the SNES days and I greatly prefer a controller to waving my arms arround. That's also why I already hate Kinnect without trying it.

I think part of the problem is that many percieve Nintendo as making games for kids, whereas 360 and PS3 have their obvious "I-kill-stuff-so-I'm-cool" games (not saying they're bad, but there's a LOT of teenagers out there that simpy won't play games that doesn't involve painting the surroundings with someone's brain). Game developers might think that, since the Wii is a console for "children" (which it isn't, but you get the point), they simply take their "non-kid" game to 360 and PS3 to avoid being associated with making "childish" games. Add to that that the 360 and PS3 are more powerful and you get the Graphic Junkies, who are another big group, avoiding the Wii. I feel that most of the good games for the Wii have been developed by Nintendo themselves, while they (as you said) lack 3rd party developers who are really interested in making games for the Wii that aren's just "Cookind Mama" style games.

COOKING MAMA
=P
I thought they were alright, but I like to cook as it is. I disagree with some recipes though.
The Resident Evil games are pretty good, actually.

It's not just the developers. The consumers of the Wii don't really support the "non-kid" games either. For example, look at sales of COD4:MW. It sold 8.5 million copies on X360, 5.4 million on PS3, and only 1.25 million on Wii. Black Ops is looking like the same story. 7 million on X360, 5.3 on PS3, and 0.24 million on Wii.
The Wii system itself gets a ton of sales. But, when you look at sales of games, it seems the only ones Wii owners are interested in are the "kiddy" games.
Don't get me wrong, some of those are excellent games. And, the number of units sold on many of these games are just staggering. But, you look at what sells on the Wii, it's clear that Wii owners have no interest in 3rd party "non-kid" games.
Ok same as always, I havnt yet beat this one, but Im about 5 or 6 hours into it (its hard to stay focused with everyday life and other games Im playing at the same time) but I have to say, this one is great so far. Its a turn based tactics game along the lines of Final Fantasy Tactics. Your in control of an ever growing army called the Liberation Army. Basically your whats left of a country that had lost a pretty big war, and now your being controlled by a huge empire called the Begnion and they basically murder, steal and rape when ever they feel like it. The bad guys are very easy to hate in this game.
You start off as a group of rebels that try to do good for the people of your country and fight against the Begnion. As time goes on though, you become the main part of an army that is planning on going against the Begnion forces. Again Im only about 5 or 6 hours into this one but I can already tell its going to be good. The story goes at a nice steady pace, and there seems to be plots that leave you wondering as it goes. The battle mechanics are pretty damn solid. You REALLY have to focus on supporting your troops correctly otherwise you will pay pretty dearly. I can say Ive had to restart a battle a couple times because I had my healer to close to the badasses, and in this game, the AI doesnt ignore the easy to kill and go for tough guys. Oh no no no, they attack the weaker ones and in masses. Also its pretty cool because when you attack a unit with one of yours, its not just FF attack movements and thats it, it actually goes to a short movie showing the attack. Sure it gets a little old after a few hours, but still its a nice touch. Your characters gain levels and their classes change and such like most tactics games Ive played.
So if tactics are your thing, check this game out for sure. I think its been out awhile so it might even be on the cheap (Im a cheap ass, so thats a plus) It also seems like its going to take awhile to play (again a plus for me, I personally hate buying a game that is beat and shelved after 6 hours)as Im on part 1 still and again about 6 hours in. My only complaint is when you goto camp in between battles. Theres no where to fix your weapons, so you have to buy new ones when they break. So I carry 2 of each weapon on my characters. It sounds ok on paper, but the store doesnt actually carry the weapons you want/need all the times. One of my fav supports is an Archer, and wouldnt ya know it, bows are friggin PRICEY in this game. But still, the complaints are pretty short on a list full of goods.
that's all I have to contribute to this thread...I'm sorry.

In an astounding bout of idioc--er, ingenuity, Nintendo seems to be marketing the Wii as a "last-gen" or "three-gens-ago" console. The results are what one might expect.
But no surprise. When companies have big successes after big failures, they tend to get stuck. The Wii is Nintendo's attempt to turn the DS into a console (a la GBA and Game cube).
Nintendo needs to get back to what they were doing during the early NES, SNES, N64 . . .
What they don't seem to understand is the difference between the way the way they did busness regarding the SNES era and the business they did on it. Republishing games is not enough. Also, N64 was gak.

Yea they have a game called Battalion Wars Wii that is basically an Advanced wars for Wii. It plays a bit differently but I have to say it is pretty fun. Ill put that review up eventually. Right now, Im knee deep in Epic Mickey and a couple others right now lol. I need to play Battalion Wars further, as Ive only just finished the Solar Empire part so Im still pretty much in the beginning.
And yea, N64 was gak?!? Really? Did one just fall on your head, or you caught it sleeping with your wife? because the 64 was a great system
