I have a Wii and will soon own a PS3 for Christmas.

My two favourite games are definately Metroid Prime Trilogy and Monster Hunter Tri.

Metroid is a great Nintendo classic, and I just love the theme. Monster hunter is just so fun to play, though I'll admit the story line isn't amazing.

Otherwise, Smash Bros is great for just having fun with friends.

I got Metriod for the Wii when it first was released, not the trilogy.. I forget what it was called. But anyway... I found it to be kinda boring :( lots of running back and forth and back and forth. I even got the hint book and still got sick of it.

I just wish the Wii had more good "serious" games.. I'm hoping the new Zelda will be good.

And my wishlist also includes a Wii that can do HD resolutions too.

I read a report a year ish ago that said Nintendo is planning on a HD Wii so all the games look prettier on those big ol flashy TVs. Dunno if thats been on the backburner or not, I havnt seen anything about it since.

Im sure the new Legends of Zelda will be a great game. Twilight Princess is the tits if you ask me. I do agree some, that the Wii needs a stronger hardcore line of games. Ive played the new 007 for a bit, I dont have a "gun" for mine yet, or a classic controller. I say this because it feels like itll be much easier to pull off with one of those. But I can say the bit Ive played seems like its going to be a badass game. My only real complaint from the few minutes Ive played is the AI seem to easy to get spotted by. But thats another Ill give a better review on at a later date.

Also, Twilight was a last-gen game. Fitting that it's one of Wii's only worthwhile titles.

^Ok the Wii kinda sucks, but how can you not even mention Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie. Those 2 are just a fraction of the awesomeness of the N64.

I hate the wii. I keep trying to give it a try, but I can't. It's awful. There's no more than three games I'd even consider playing:

Metroid Prime 3
Metroid: The other M

...That's it. SSBB is okay, but melee was cooler and eaier to play. Twilight princess in on the gamecube.

The gamecube was gak too, but to a lesser extent. It had a lot of really good native games (like TLOZ: Wind Waker, the metroid primes, custom robo, TLOZ: Twilight princess, although not native).

I still own my gamecube, and I'm proud of it. It's reliable. It has wires. More reliable than a stick with buttons that you wave around.

The N64 was an excellent portent (omen?) for the Wii. The SNES was a phenomenal console but, sadly for Nintendo, Sony reaped the lesson of that product rather than Nintendo. Aside from the cartridge, I don't see any continuity between the SNES and the N64. The GameCube was almost a proverbial white flag. The Wii is like a fad that hasn't quite come into fashion. The things that it claims it can do are kind of a drag and it really doesn't even do them very well.

KingC, I don't think it's just Dakka that has an aversion to the Wii. For my own part, it's been a huge disappointment and waste of money--even after playing through Twilight Princess and the last Metroid Corruption.

Yeah, totally. Which is why it doesn't really fit the wii. It was better on the Gamecube, IMO. It felt more natural. I can't stand playing zelda without being able to do it at 3 o'clock in the morning

Edit; The more I think about it, MP3:C was definitely a last-gen game as well. The controls were utterly perfect on the gamecube, and it seemed..Wrong on the wii.

Nintendo has really kicked themselves in the pants with the wii

It could have been good had they not branched out into the casual market as much. It may get them money but it loses people like me who hate that kind of crap.

If you really want to get fit get a gym membership not Wii Fit.

It has some real good games. And potential. But it has let itself down.

Part of the problem is that it's pretty well out of potential. With Kinect and Move, Wii has nothing to offer but Samus, Link, and Mario. Nothing to sniff at--but those guys could do greater things on a better machine.

I have no problem with Nintendo reaching out to the casual market. There are more non-gamers out there than there are gamers. Most of those non-gamers aren't the weird "I don't own a TV" anti-technology people, but simply people that haven't been sufficiently exposed to video games. The Wii is a great tool for reaching out to that market and welcoming them to the land of gamers.

They used this cool new controller to both ease-in non-gamers. Video games are no longer a "sit around and mash buttons", which is intimidating to a lot of people. It's a major success story, in my book.

But, Nintendo's big problem seems to be that they have abandoned the more traditional gamer. They haven't found a way to use that new controller in a way that wows us old, jaded gamers. We want to use it as a tool in video games that are complex and challenging. But, Nintendo has only figured out how to use it in 1) a really simple "swing me around and look like you're playing tennis" way which, although fun, isn't particularly in-depth and 2) basically an extra button that you have to shake the controller violently to press.

If Nintendo (or a 3rd party developer) manages to use a Wii-mote's motion capabilities in a seamless integration into a quality video game rather than just "flail your arms to have fun", you can guarantee we'll all be changing our tune and hailing the Wii as the greatest thing since the NES. But, until then, it's a waste of a system for traditional gamers.

@Grakmar: But are the people introduced to video games actually going on to play video games? Doesn't seem so, looking at the Wii selection. And I know their business plan can't be "send them to Sony and Microsoft."

I think Nintendo started to get really bad after the N64, though the handheld stuff is still kinda neat.

The best thing nintendo has done recently are the DSi and Wiiware market songs. Those two tunes are dope.

Personally I have to say SNES and PS2 are the greatest consoles of all time.

That is of course not countning the PC

Have to agree with your choices there, Asimo. The problem, I think, is that what drove those success stories is not easy to achieve in this generation: namely, a huge game selection. Microsoft has achieve this to some degree and, along with Halo, that's the only thing I can think of that has driven 360 sales. J/K . . . sort of. I don't get why people would pay for Live. But I never had a WOW account, either. The Wii, for its part, has a large selection of games. But as this thread will no doubt prove, many of them are throw-away licenses--hopefully KingC will direct us to the real gems.

Thats my plan anyways. Ive always believed that even gakkiest bands, are capable of making a good tune. That has been proven many times over. Now I personally dont think the Wii is a brick made of poop. But I really do see why gamers dont care much for it. Like I said before, all 3 systems have many MANY terrible games. But as my thought on bands will show, there WILL be good ones in that pile of junk. Im mainly just trying to show that the Wii has good games, that way if you already have one, or get one on the cheap, youll have a good starter list to go from.

I'm sorry, Zelda on Wii is an utter fail. At least for Metroid they did something to the graphics and gameplay. Zelda they just took the gamecube game and stuck it on Wii. Absolutely no change.

Metroid may be boring at times but hey, its a classic that's actually interesting and has a story line.

But no one can disagree that the Wii is definately not the best, and will not be until the graphics and motion theme get better.

So I decided to also get a PS3 for the more hardcore games.

Well, apart from the obious stuff like Zelda and Mario, I absolutly loved Red Steel 2. This is exactly the kind of game that motion controlled gaming has promised us from the start and it's awesome.

Donkey Kong Country Returns is awesome so far. Better than new SMB even.

Except for the fact that it has sold almost twice as many consoles as the Xbox 360 and PS3, 75 million as opposed to 45 and 40 million.

Yeah, no one buys them..

I'm pretty sure that the people who bought it didn't buy it because they thought it was an awful games console.

I got Guitar hero 3 for the Wii and had a blast with that, but I guess I'm just getting too old now.. that guitar killed my wrist :( stupid carpal tunnel BS.

I didn't have a game cube so zelda was new to me. When I first started playing I was standing there flailing my arms around when I swung the sword but soon realized all I had to do was sit on the sofa and flick my wrist. But, I'm lookin forward to the next one. I have a PS3 but have no interest in the Move thing, already have that in the Wii so why bother with knock offs.

I got the Wii originally because my old Xbox controller was killing my wrist and the Wii was more comfortable for me. I get the same problem when I play my PS3 too much too.

Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

I enjoyed the Wii, and had a fair few games for it, the boys enjoyed it as well.

However when I upgraded my xbox a few weeks back, I wanted a 250gb version, and the only way I could get one was with a Kinect. I wasn't expecting it to be much good.

A few weeks later I've brought five of the Kinect games, and I am really looking forward to what appears next year.

My Sons (both under 7) had slight issues with some Wii games as the control system with the numchunk was a little odd for them to grasp. (Although they play traditional games such as Lego Star Wars on the 360 fine) with the Kinect they had no issues what so ever and love it.

So yeah the Wii was good while it lasted, but now a next gen level system exists, I think I'll be boxing up the Wii and selling it in the new year. I really can't see it getting any play time compared to the Kinect.

Yeah in retrospect there are some real gems. I personally think there are very few good games but the ones that are good are simply amazing. Especially the new 4-player Super Mario Bros. Problem is everything not made directly by Nintendo ends up being pretty awful.

Not to derail my own thread but uh, how does the Kinect work out anyways? Does it get confused when multiple people pay it?
