What Traitor Legion do you think are the worst/lest useful legion. PLease say why they are the worst or are just terrible.

They all use the same codex....

I think most of the Traitor Legions are cool and have great background, far more so than most of the loyalist ones, especially the newer Ultramarines/Space Wolf/Blood Angel fan-fic tripe they saw fit to print. That said, I'm not sure what you mean by worst/least useful. One must remember that only some of the Legions still exist in a somewhat united organization (e.g. Word Bearers, Iron Warriors, Thousand Sons, etc) while many others have splintered into many small warbands (World Eaters, Night Lords, etc), and they all pretty much do their own thing and follow their own agendas.

This can be ethere fluff or gaming.

They're all fine with me. I still want a Legions Codex though.

Black Legion... 13 crusades later... still failing.

I think a new CSM codex should have different FOC layouts or combat tactic replacement style differentiation for the different legions. It would take very little writing to implement this. Expect the new codex to be pretty much exactly like the vanilla dex.

That said, none of the legions strike me as being "the most terrible" but i find the alpha legions motto of "doing things the hard way" tactically..looking the same so as to be confused with the primarch.. The hydra symbology meaning if you cut one head off it still attacks... It's kinda bland. In trying to be the least like ultras they end up being the MOST vanilla of the csm's legions

almost as vanilla as the black legion is now since they took out all the luna wolves / sons of horus originality. But at least black legion has a bigger story to it

Iron Warriors. They were basically a ripoff and combination of two other chapters. Siege Warfare specialists, ripped from the Imperial Fists, obsessed with technology, ripped from the Iron Hands.

Well, they can't exactly let the Black Legion win, now can they?

I'm gonna have to throw my vote towards the Black Legion, if you follow someone through 10,000 years of failure, you truly are dedicated to that individual.

And as an Iron Warriors fanboy I have to disagree, the Fists (which I also play) are defence specialists, while the iron Warriors are their antithesis, siege specialitsts. Hence why Dorn Defended and Perturabo assaulted. It's no more ridiculous than say, The Night Lords and the Raven Guard, or the Space Wolves and the Thousand Sons. GW engineered the rivalries you see in the fluff, it's not like Perturabo just said, 'hey those guys have a cool thing going, lets take that'.

My vote is for Black Legion. The other legions all seem to have much more..... flavor(?). Black Legion just seems boring. They're the chaos version of Ultramarines

Black legion...I just find them to be the least interesting in terms of fluff and visually

I like Black Legion the least. Having said that, I do still like them as an army.

Alpha Legion. why spend 100 years giving people who may become space marines hypnotic triggers, when a bolt round to the face would solve stopping their recruitment alot quicker.

Im surprised people are voting black legion for the fail, I mean lets face it they've accomplished more than any of the other legions, and fluff wise their about as devoted as you can get to the cause.

Emperors Children and World Eaters arent even full legions anymore, just warbands roving around looking for a fight not doing anything to further the grand scheme, theylve regressed to ork status fgs.

Magnus the Red took his most powerful sorcerors and exiled them for enacting a plan to the goals that he himself wanted (So it didnt work 100%, it still accomplished what Ahriman said it would)

The Word Bearers, with one of the few remaining Choas Primarchs do.... very little except worship, thats their thing, Lorgar has sat their meditating for 10,000 years... Real Pro-active

The Night Lords have decided the most effective way to down the imperium is to drive around raping, pillaging and murdering while doing very little.

Alpha Legion are that obssessed with secrets they probably dont even know about all the bases they have.

Death Guard and Iron Warriors I havent seen that much of. Cant comment there.

It just seems that the overriding goal of the CSM was to bring down the imperium of man, the Black Legion seem to be the only ones actually working to that goal, On the subject of Abaddons crusades, none of them thus far have been aimed at ripping the imperium apart, just causing damage, probing defenses, establishing beach heads and gaining weapons, he knows he cant end the imperium in one glorous sweep, the taitor legions arent strong enough for that yet.



Gameplay wise my opinion is reversed, hell ye cant even play legions that arent cult affiliated because there isnt any rules for them.

Black Legion, for following around Failbaddon.

Word Bearers, for being a bunch of tools and loving it.

Night Lords, for having giant bat wings on their helmets.

On a related note, anyone voting for the Alpha Legion is a bad person and should be ashamed of themselves.

Black Legion for being so damn inconsistant.

Because you can then recruit, say, half a chapter to your cause?
I mean, a lot of those renegades became members of the Alpha Legion proper afterwards.

World eaters- Crusade of fire, first war for armegedon

Emperors children- Fabious Bile seems to be doing just fine, and the EC have drugs, sex, and rock... what else do they need to be awsome?

1k sons- The sack worlds for books... imagine if they actually were trying to band together for something worth while. And wizards man!? thats awsome.

Word Bearers- Tool bags one and all but still prolly one of the most numberous and powerful/well organized legions devoted to chaos. (read daemon world)

Night Lords- Broken and scattered but prolly hold to the old ideal of bringing down the imperium of man through non chaotic means better than any other chapter. Also batman is awsome. And they still manage to sack worlds through TERROR!

Alpha legion brings down SM chapters without firing a shot... thats incredible. Doing alot with nothing is the marine way.

DG and IW also cool legions with alot of character and wreck the IoM.


Black legion- failed at 13 black crusades, and about as bland as the ultrasmurfs.

the emperor's children and world eaters do exactly what their gods want and magnus was told to exile ahriman.

each legion does pretty much what it is supposed to do for their god/s rather well except the black legion, they aim to high and always fail.

Black Legion. Although you have to admit that at least Abaddon is tenacious/stubborn/stupid enough to not let a few setbacks demoralize himself. He just tries again. Again. And again...

Thre was a cute scene in one of the Night Lords novels ( forget the name ), where the main character has an audience with Abaddon. He basically calls Big Abby a failure right to his face. Talk about having some major mojo . Hilarity ensues.

World Eaters, simply due to Angron. "ANGRY ALL THE TIME! CAN YOU FEEL THE ANGER!?"

Hah! That's exactly what I wanted to say. Agree totally. besides, their leader is ugly.

Black Legion. A whole legion wrapped up in their shame and guilt for failure they paint their armor black. If that doesn't scream middle child gone goth I don't know what does.

Ahriman's exile is all part of the plan to get him chasing after the Black Library. The Changer's ways are mysterious indeed.

IMHO, when the Black legion were cool as the Sons of Horus, they were the evil and devoted leaders of traitor Legions, but once Horus died, they became the Black Legion and also became quite...bland

Arch-Warmaster Failbaddon's indecicive naming scheme marines have to top the list for incompetance. The only thing they have ever accomplised was getting the 1K sons and the Plauge Marines to work together and point them in the right direction. That is like saying that France's greatest tactical manuver in WW1 was teaming up with the british and waiting for the U-Boats to sink an american gun-runner.

Runner up is the Word Bearers. They invented the cult of the Emperor and then said that is was all lies and coined the phrases "Death to the False Emperor" and "Corpse God" when, you know, there was a long period in time when they were considered loonies for beliving just this. And Lorgar. Daddy issues killed the galaxy. If Lorgar died instead of mystery fish-primarch, 40K would be better off. Less conflict and over all entertainment value, but hey.
