I was browsing the FAQs, and at the bottom of the Tau FAQ, found here, it has this message:

So does our Benevolent Overlord have some sway with GW, at least in the past?

He writes/contributes/organises the INAT FAQ, which I believe that GW sometimes consult when they are writing their own FAQ's.

A while back GWAR! was going mental because an FAQ copied and pasted several chunks of answers from his FAQ's.

I'm not surprised that Yakface is on there.

So GW can't even write their own patches for the holes in the rules, waiting for others to do it for them, without pay?

Yakface and co were accredited with the Ork FAQ amongst others. GW directly used some of the INAT ruling council FAQs and happily said thank you.

Strange then that they would copy/paste from anyone else and not give them the same accolade. Perhaps it's simply convergent evolution to the same answer, in which case no need to say thanks, despite claims of conspiracy or tinfoil hats or lack of fresh air...

I'm pretty sure I remember Yak talking about this a while back and then people started associating him with GW etc. and asking him a lot of questions so he requested (or whatever) that GW no longer put his name at the bottom or something.

I think I remember reading this anyway, I can't guarantee its accuracy. We'll have to wait until Mr Connery himself shows up...

Yak should sue GW for an IP violation.

Just to be clear, Games Workshop 'thanked' myself and the rest of the Adepticon rules council in some of their official FAQs because they utilized some of the question and answer wording from our INAT FAQ. I, and the rest of the Adepticon rules council, has absolutely no ability to get questions submitted to Games Workshop for consideration in their official FAQs beyond what any other gamer does (i.e. sending a question to GW via their mail/email address).

Now, the one bit of connection I did have with GW is, after the fact, when they contacted me to actually apologize for putting that credit in their FAQs. Why, you ask? Well because to this day people still contact me with rules questions thinking that I can somehow get them into GW FAQs.

GW actually let me know in that email that they would not be directly crediting anyone in their FAQs in the future for this very reason.


IMHO, the point of writing any fan-made FAQ (like the INAT) is to get your questions included in the official GW FAQs, regardless of what answers they actually give to those questions. While I'm grateful that GW thanked us for the work that we did, to me, credit is irrelevant and unneeded...and when people truly believe that a company *needs* to give them credit when for using questions written for their own game, it just actually reinforces the need to not give credit lest people actually start caring who is more responsible then whom for the content of a FAQ...when what does it matter?


Anyway, the thanks to us in the GW FAQs is just a thanks, not a credit for work done, and as they update the remaining FAQs, all the thanks will soon be gone anyway (thank goodness!)...
