Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

Maybe there should just be a new codex:undecided marines. They come with paint bruses in their hands for quick mid-campaign changes.

Considering the Exorcists were from the 13th founding and the GK were founded shortly after the Horus Heresy that isn't possible.
Also they were created using Grey Knight gene-seed apparently. Although their chapter organisation would be unsuited to be represented by the new GK codex as they are basically Codex+2 Scout companies.

Lexicanum lists Grey Knights as their founding chapter. The main difference in their training is that they have to house a Daemon inside themselves and expel it before they can become marines.

Don't listen to what they say on Lexicanum, VERY poor source of info, a lot of fanfluff gets thrown on there.
I was going to post a snarky comment about what this all means. Something along the lines of, yet another Space Marine/Imperial codex instead of updating a xenos codex or something like that, but now I'm all upset about the possibility of 'Grey Knight successor chapters' etc.

As long as they're using legal rules and WYSIWYG models, why should one care so much how their opponent's army is painted, or how they decide to fluff it?

I might consider putting a campaign badge.. to denote them as part of a force consisting of a bunch of different chapters. kinda like deathwatch I guess, but without the colour scheme restrictions.
maybe just one of those shoulder shields the plastic terminators have with some symbol on it

Some things shouldn't be done. Like female spacemarines, non-greenskin orks, and GK successors (as to my knowledge they are stated as not having any, although I might be pleasantly surprised to see that change).

Nids have had characters for a long time now. At least since 3rd ed. in fact. They went away in 4th ed. (because Phil Kelly could see how dumb a concept it was) but they came back for 5th (because Cruddance can't see how dumb any concept is). At least the explain it as being ultra-rare specialized biomorphs/specialized 'personalities' that the Hive Mind can call forth to meet certain objectives.

Old One Eye was definately a character, but the Red Terror was hinted to be only one of many, the others of which yielded no survivors to tell the tale. OOE ceased to exist because he supposidly was reabsorbed and his abilites re-evaluated.

When it comes to 40k/Black Library, sources aren't good unless a context is also given. The Nathaniel Garro article used to say that he founded the Inquisition, and gave the source as Flight of the Eisenstein. Eventually they corrected the article to its current form where it makes it clearly that its speculation.
If anyone has Imperial Armour Volume 10, I would see what it says in there regarding the ancestry of the Exorcists.

I'm not sure whether they are successors to be honest which is why i originally said they were spiritual successors not actual successors...

I honestly wouldn't mind, but it seems every fan-successor of the Grey Knights is some super-duper Mary-Sue in power armour brigade. "The Black Knights are like grey knights but bettererer. They all have daemon weapons that they control with their super willpower, and have never lost a brother in battle. Oh, and they get all the ladies". Crap and bollocks. Grey Knights are already verging on Mary Sue territory as it is, it doesn't need a excitable gamer to push them over the precipice.
Rules for alternative Grey Knight Colour Schemes:
1. There are no Grey Knight successors. You can't have one.
2. More plausible is different sects of the same chapter. Say your army has been fighting daemons in a warp rift a zillion miles away from Titan for years now, without resupply. They coloured their armour red/black/pink because they know their fate is to die battling daemons without help from the rest of the chapter.
3. Improved abilities requires serious drawbacks. You can't have everything. If they're super-duper marines, they're boring. If they're super-duper in one area, but cripplingly weak in many others, that's more interesting. Elite as they've spend decades constantly fighting daemons, but doomed to die without honour or recognition. That's cool. Elite because I say so, and they're the greatest heros evar is crap.
4. No, you can't make your own rules up for your super-leet primarch 11 whole's been in hiding for millennia and is actually possessed by the will of the Emperor. You have a codex, use the rules from it. Call one of the special characters in it something different.
5. You can do a Custodes army with Grey Knight rules. That's awesome.

No, not custodes! They don't even get to wear armour. Although it may be nice to face a marine army with no saves I don't think they would last very long.

It's a trick, the Emprah's psychic power is just projecting the illusion of armour.
Seriously Gold Marines with sticks can use the Silver Marines with sticks codex pretty well. I think they probably have been for a while anyway.
