I'm starting up a new Dark Eldar force that I'm calling the Kabal of the Bloody Rose.

I'm thinking of using the icon on page 71 as the basis for my own but with a blood drop added (stylized to not quite look like the Blood Angels teardrop). The Kabal is set up with emphasis on fast attack and assault. Lead by Lelith Hesperax (until I can kit out an Archon to my liking) it is a predominantly wytch oriented force represented by the Cult of the Lying Heart. No, I'm not a Goth but I think Goth Girls are hot so thus the inspiration for my army.

I'm hoping to get this done for the Armies on Parade event in April. I'm going to use Cities of Death material for my board and for basing material of the Kabal. At least that's the plan for now. Work will be mostly on Saturdays at the Seattle Battle Bunker.

I've included a shot of my unboxed purchase below (from Neal at TheWarStore.com). Bits I ordered to make a unit of Scourges (based on Vanq's conversion), and for magnatizing sponsons to the Raiders allowing them to be used either as Raiders or Ravagers, haven't arrived yet.

1 Lelith Hesperax blister
3 boxes of Kabalite Warriors
3 boxes of Hellions
3 boxes of Reavers
3 boxes of Wyches
3 Raiders

Based on how I'm assembling stuff, this breaks down to approximately 2072 points (note, this is NOT going to be my actual army list):

Lelith Hesperax (175pts)

Kabalite Warriors (180pts)
Warriors x9, Blaster, Dark Lance
Sybarite x1, Agonizer, Phantasm Launcher

Kabalite Warriors (180pts)

Wytches (180pts)
Wytches x9, Haywire Grenades, Razorflail, Shardnet & Impaler

Wytches (180pts)
Wytches x9, Haywire Grenades, Razorflail, Shardnet & Impaler
Hekatrix x1, Agonizer, Haywire Grenades, Phantasm Launcher

Hellions (125pts)

Reaver Jet Bikes (88pts)

Reavers x3, Blaster, Grav-Talon

Raider (70pts)
Dark Lance, Flickerfield

Raider (70pts)
Dark Lance, Flickerfield

This doesn't even count the Scourges I'm planning on converting. I also plan to drop Lelith for a Succubus once I get one converted up (and a Baron conversion, too).

Think Nebari from Farscape. Grey-white skin, black hair for men and white hair (with black roots) for women. Dark charcoal grey clothes (allows for black shading and lighter grey highlighting). Possibly blueish tatooing. Red accents. Metal bits in silver. Yes, I realize this makes them the Black Templars of the underworld but it's a cool scheme if I do it right.

Haven't decided about the Raiders, Jet Bikes, Boards. I think I may go heavy on the red for them. That or bright autumn/flame colors to give my greyscale DE some vibrancy.

Well, it was either this or save for my retirement.

I just realized I've a box of Hellions that I really don't need (I'm making a unit of 10, not three units of 5). I think I'll try to swap it out for a box of wytches to use as Bloodbrides. Looking at the codex, Wytches and Bloodbrides have exactly the same loadout, only the stat lines are changed. What would be a good way to differenciate Bloodbrides from regular Wytches?

Alll women for starters, and if my calculations are correct you will have 8 wyche helmets so give them to the Bloodbrides (plus a couple of the reaver ones?).

If you look at the codex I think bloodbrides are all female if I remember correctly. Think they are the harem of the succubus, or words to the extent.

So following the fluff they should be all female and sumwhat vain and elegant killers. Don't know how your going to translate all that into deadly looking models mind.

Well, I should have stated this earlier but my DE are sexist. Kabalites, Hellions, Reavers and Scourges are going to be all male. Wytches, Bloodbrides and Succubi are all female. Currently I'm not inclined to put helmets on my Wytches. The "bubble" helms go to my Reavers. Kabalites will all have helmets on them. My Scourge are using Daemonette heads (I'll paint them in "manly" fashion).

My Archon (when I get around to converting one) will likely also be female but that's a long way off.

Really liking the sound of your scheme so far. For the blood brides why not model them on Lelith to tie the army together and for the colour scheme use your grey armour and then add blood patterned like warpaint to look like they have been in a bloodbath, since in the codex it states how they like to 'anoint themselves with the blood of there foes in a dark testament to their own prowess'.

'You can be my steed, galloping into battle and bitchslapping the enemy.'

Blood splatter could be one way to go. The again, painting their armor red instead of greyscale could also work. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

As it turns out, I likely won't have to get rid of the third box of Hellions after all. I just read that they can form units of up to 20 which means I'm actually short a box. Ah well. I'll figure something out.

Maybe just use a red to highlight instead of a gray. One step further would to be cutting in some red into the base color. They would be the same, but different.

I think that you could pull this scheme off, as long as you carefully balance the colored accent bits. the little gems, optics, techie bitz, metallics, etc. If it were me, I wouldn't limit myself just to red - I'd make red the primary accessory color, but throw in the occasional blue or green. Balance is key.

Also, it might help to think about what will make your HQ, Elites, etc. stand out from the common grunt. Gold/brass instead of silver? Red helmets or hair?

Just my 2 cents. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. I have yet to see a black Dark Eldar scheme (which is odd) so yours should be interesting.

I was thinking this for the bloodbrides, not the whole army. I like the current idea he has.

Minor update. I honestly intended to get some painting done but clipping bits off the sprue just took so damned long. Now my thumb and index finger are sore as hell and too weak to hold a brush steady. Anyway as you see, without the sprue and packaging those twelve boxes fit into some pretty tiny storage tubs that I got from Office Depot.

I also found some of my (regular) Eldar bits. I've an unassembled Wraithlord, Guardian Squad (x2) and Dire Avenger squad. I'm thinking I might working the Dire Avengers into Harliquins. No sense buying them when I already have unused bits. Can't decide if I want to morph the Wraithlord into a "counts as" Talos or not. I may just model it for its own sake.

I was having the exact same idea. Any tips on how you're gonna go about it? I'm a bit daunted by the idea of sculpting so much cloth... How about the Wraithlord? I was gonna try to make it into an Eldar-looking Mannequin thing for my Talos and Cronos.

I wasn't planning on doing any heavy sculpting for my harlies. As long as the weapons are wysiwyg they'll work as "counts as" Harlies. Fluff-wise they can be treated as actual Dire Avengers who went mercenary (or become pirates) and are now hired by the Kabal.

I've not given the Wraithlord much thought beyond the initial concept.

I'm excited to see another DE player showing the building of the army..

Though, where did you find a DE army painter app? I'd love to use that for my own army (I'm still trying to find a color scheme I both like and can paint)

@ Nuwisha - There is no DE painter app that I have access to. I nicked those straight from GW's website and did a little swapping around to put the right hair/gem colors onto the already black & grey body.

@ shingouki - Thanks. Hopefully you other DE players will post enough cool stuff to keep me inspired once the painting chore gets arduous and depressing.

@ Brotheralexos - You should see how much of the old stuff I have. Back in the day nobody wanted them at all so I inherited a lot of them. So many aweful models. Fortunately I've enough Raiders that I can take my time replacing them.

Speaking of tons of old models, I've dug around and discovered about 15 unused Splinter Cannons. While I detest most of the old stuff (those splinter rifles look like crap), the Cannons will make the basis of some nice conversions. First up will be Heat Lances as I get the bits.

I always thought a Wraithlord kitbashed with a Jetbike base would work very well as a floating Talos. But I'm waiting till June to find out what the Talos box looks like first.

With your five remaining Hellions, you could use the remaining parts (after kitbashes) to make some Beastmasters.

Hi there, im just starting out with my own Dark eldar army and i've got a purple theme going on. Loving the ideas here tho and good luck with all that painting, im looking forward to see how it all pans out. I get my army bit by bit because having all of that to do in one go seems rather daunting.

I've spent two weeks at the Seattle Battle Bunker clipping, filing, and gluing lots of plastic bits. I broke down and bought a Ravager there and threw it on the pile with the three Raiders. Much progress has been made but I've come to a halt due to bits orders not arriving and trades not happening. :(

My Scourge parts are in a box waiting for critical bits to arrive in the mail some day and I'll likely not buy from that guy again (ebay auction). I've got a box of Dire Wolves and a pile of 'Nid bits to make Khymera out of. I still need three sets of Ravager turrents so I can finish my Raider/Ravager swappable ships but I keep getting outbid. Speaking of being outbid, I'm trying to lowball bits auctions to make three more Reavers out of the leftover bits that I have. I'm also getting ready to do some conversion work on my Wraithlord so it can join my army as a Talos. Chainflails and extra CC with twin-linked heat lances should make it one tough customer. I'll need to convert up an Archon so I can drop a portal cause it won't survive starting on the table.

In the meantime, I went ahead and grabbed an army auction for two more Ravagers, three Hellion boxes, a box each of Kabalites and Wyches. These will be for my Truebloods and Beastmasters with the rest of the Hellions to buff out my existing Hellion squad.

But, because you guys want proof that I've not been playing World of Blehcraft, here are some pix. Most look like sillouettes because they're dark grey against a white background. Sorry about that but I'm not going to fuss with it because they're not ready to be painted or anything. Nothing is on bases because those will be done last, right before the painting starts. The last pic is a closeup of how I'm magnatising my sponsons - all will have them eventually.

Construction will begin again once my bits come in.

Since I gave you guys a rather weak update today, I'll toss in something for you to laugh at. Back in the days of 3rd Edition, I attempted to create some Grotesques on my own. The result was... rather grotesque and not in a "cool" sort of way. :(

For your entertainment...
