Space Marine Scout with Sniper Rifle

I've been painting and building models for over 20 years, and if I've learned anything its that I'm still prone to making mistakes on a project. So what really boneheaded things have you done on a project? What has made you take pause, and really step back and either change how you complete a painting or model build task?
I'll get things started with two stories.
The first happened just a couple days ago. Like I said earlier I've been painting for 20 years. but I'm only been wearing eye glass for a couple months. Well I was spraying a base coat on my Imperial Fist Tac Squads, there was a little bit of wind, but not enough to make me want to hold off painting. What I didn't do was remove my eye glasses. Yellow spots of dried paint are not fun to clean off eye glasses.
The second happened years ago, and really helped to cement the importance of putting my modeling tools away properly. Somehow my x-acto knife fell into my laundry basket, and well eventually had to sort my clothes before washing. Long story short I found my x-acto knife. So after alot of blood, 3 stitches, and an interesting conversation with a police officer as to why I had blood pouring down my arm I always remember to put my tools away properly.

Drilled, and kept drilling, and them drilled into my thumb, quite deep. But as it isn't a clean hole in flesh, it didn't come right out,, not to mention the scraps of plastic that followed it in. What was worse I did this at 23:30, sitting in bed. I had to try and explainn the bloodstained bed clothes

Okay I will post some pics, but first let me tell you what happened. I was having a bit of trouble in my life. My sister was murdered and my dad lost his leg due to a blood clot. Anyways my life was a bit of a wreck. I would try and do warhammer minis to get my mind off of things. The thing is I was depressed pretty bad. The thing is, you shouldn't use a wood knife if you are distracted by things in life.
I was making me a Wooden Big Stompa for Warhammer Fantasy. I was cutting and trimming pieces of wood for the project. Distracted, I cut my finger wide open. Pics are in the spoiler. You are warned, not for the squeamish:

Did you try putting the drill in reverse? I guess it would have been a little hard to think of that with a drill bit deep in your thumb...

I once used a lighter and a hot needle instead of a drill to melt a small hole through a plastic guardsman's hand.
I was in my dressing gown, it had opened a bit and I dropped the red hot needle out of the pliers onto my crotch...
I taught myself swearwords I didn't even know that I knew that evening.

I think drinking paint water is part of the initiation of being a painter. Nothing like the acrid, oily taste of brush water after a day of painting!

mmmm Delicious....
My stupid thing consists of telling someone else to help me with something, specifically, asking my mom to get a tub with brake fluid so I could strip some old models. She decided to be extra helpful and drop my good models in there as well, including the space marine captain I had spent a week painting

I accidentally sliced open my leg, I was sitting down holding a craft knife and woops my leg is bleeding. 2 hours later been to A&E and had to get stitches, they then came undone and I had to get the wound superglued. The first thing I did when I got home was finish the figure I had been working on .
I have cut open my thumb to many times to mention but still dont have a scar, although my kitchen is slightly blood stained in places; ah well BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

Then you can mix it up a bit and clean one of your brushes in your coffee.
My worst modeling accident involved some guitar wire I was bending to use as cabling. I had glued one end down and was working on gluing the other when the first end snapped loose spraying Zap-a-Gap onto my lip and eye. The stuff in my eye actually came out without too much trouble (don't blink, apply copious amounts of water) but getting that glue off my lip hurt.

Same here. But I did it in the morning, and I took care of it immediatly. I know have a big round scar on my middle finger, richt in the middle of it. So whenever I give someone the ol' F*ck you, you'll see my scar.

ummm well I've sliced open fingers and all that, never managed to drill into myself but it's been close a couple of times, nearly had a nail from a nail gun in my forehead a friend and me were putting together a wooden frame and mdf and we had it upside down nailing from beneath while we leaned over it to stop it seperating from the force of the nail anyhow one nail came through the side and flew past my head, it litteraly ruffled my hair on its way past. we laughted then got scared then made tea before turning it over and doing it properly, my worst was a circular saw incident which basicaly shot a splinter of wood about the same size as a chopstick into the palm of my hand at the base of my left hand ring finger, then piece of wood stopped just short of breaking the skin between my thump and my forefinger, the surgeons were amazed that after then removed the piece of wood it went over the bundle of nerves for one finger under the one for the other finger and didn't damage any of the ligaments?? the photo's are on face book of the hand before removal and after if your dying to look at it just look up Stephen James hurley "my hand and other injuries when and if they happen"
