Just been playing my new copy of Pokemon White (4 Gym's Down) and was wondering what everyone thought about the story itself and the new pokemon? I personally think the story is much better than the last game however they seem to be struggling with new pokemon ideas, I mean seriously Pampour

New pokemon look horendous.

Know nothing of the story.

Haven't played it yet, but really, the new Pokemon don't look that bad to me. I think everyone just overreacts because this isn't what they're used to. Sure, most of them are based on real animals, but so were most of the original Pokemon, so I don't think there is really a loss in originality. In fact, a lot of the newer stuff is more creative IMO, even though they can look odd sometimes.

Some of the pokemon are pretty cool like Haxorus and Gigalith, and i like the story from what i have witnessed (only 2 gym badges )

Black and White seems to have a higher level of polish than the previous games. The cut scenes and character interactions make he game sort of feels like a proper RPG rather than a new pokemon game (which is the good thing). Most new pokemon games tend to be more or less the same as their precursors except with new characters/NPCS and a couple of new features. The game goes all out as far as differences/new features are concerned. Good to see gamefreak depart from the standard template.

First time I've ever gone with a starter besides the water one. I guess the starters got too stupid for me. Though like the previous games first chance I get I'm trading in my real starter, Squirtle, again.

I cannot express just how much I hate Lillipup. It's all I find.

The new battle system seems odd to me. I like how it's less static with them moving all the time, but the ADD camera doesn't really hide the fact that not much has changed. Next one I'm expecting will probably be like the battles in the first Pokemon Stadium. I've also found the beginning to be extremely lazy (from a gameplay perspective) to the others, but I'm liking the game so far. I like how it's not easy mode depending on what starter you choose thanks to the first gym. The season system is also a nice addition.

I agree it's not like where before and you start with grass and it's easy all the way. However I still love my Bulbasaur haha need to trade my original starter over whenever I get the chance too.
Hopefully they can make a big step forward when they bring out the next one on the 3DS, would love to see them remake Gold and Silver.

They did remake them, it was heartgold and soulsilver

You're right my bad althrough the 3D concept would be cool also with the originals and I do remember they remade those.

Unfortunately, the Transfer isn't accessible until after you beat the story. And you can't transfer pokemon with HM moves, either.

The same is also true of fething fishing. That's right, people, you don't get any of the fishable pokemon until AFTER you beat the game.

That's rather stupid.

Besides, the only decent water in this gen is Samurott (Razor Shell ftw). Basulin is just annoying.

I have to say though, this is by far my most favourite after Silver/SS. And only about half the pokemon are crappy looking (The RSE generation had the worst by far IMO).

But I want to catch a Magikarp , I've just made do with the Poliwag wannabe for now (can't remember the name at work at the mo) but I find that Victini is a pretty awesome Pokemon to have early on in the game.

Oh god, that tadpole pokemon is horrific. It evolves into a pimple ridden frog. =|

I did not know that the second one does look pretty terrible to be fair. What should I get instead as a water Pokemon, bear in mind I'm nearly at the 5th Gym leader now so any suggestions. (All my pokemon are about level 26)

Samurott (See if you can get an Oshawott off of Wifi. Look on GameFAQs or something).

Seimitoad (whilst an ugly spotty thing) is the second strongest (statwise) water type of this gen, followed immediately by Simipour and Carracosta.

Carracosta would probably be my choice. Especially with Solid Rock ability (makes super effective moves less effective).

Might just stick with it until I can trade my Blastoise over then. Thanks for the help though. How far are you in game?

I just googled the pokemon list for Black and white, and I find two names rather punny when put together (which is good, because tehy are evolutionarily linked).

Slarg, you should look at Timburr (fighting type holding a log) and Gurduur (evolved form holding a Girder). I named mine Hurrdurr.

You should definatly buy it, it's a big improvement if you have'nt played since D/P

But a bit of a disappointment if you played HG/SS as some stuff was removed for different add ons.

It runs a lot smoother than HG/SS. I tried to play SS today and realized how sluggish the menu options and stuff is in comparison.

It's gak, imo. I've been playing pokemon for 13 years, and this is the worst so far. The new pokemon are ridiculously stupid, and the story is pretty stale. Even the sprites are dumb. I don't want freaking legs on my character!

HG/SS sucked too. I found it insulting to be honest. I loved the originals, and HG/SS were just cheap imitations. Plus, the gameplay was boring.

End of the day it has to be Pokemon Blue ftw

This is the first game where game freak have really gone to try and make a story that doesn't consist of "group X are trying to use pokemon "X-orr/ia/on" to take over the world!"
